2008 Academy Awards

Conan's never hosted. You're thinking of the Emmys. Who has the 2009 Oscars? If it is NBC, Conan will host simply as a way to get him main stream exposure prior to his taking over the Tonight Show later that year.

The Oscars don't rotate. ABC has them locked up but its that year's telecast producer(s) that choose who will be hosting. Letterman, Ellen and Stewart have hosted and they of course don't make money for Disney. Conan may host eventually because of the Tonight Show.

Jay Leno has never hosted however even after being on the Tonight Show for 15+ years.
I TiVoed the show this year, so much better. Done in less than 2 hours.

Conan would be a good host. At least that is what I thought about Chris and Stewart. They do have to walk on egg shells. Rock told Howard Stern that all jokes he made that referenced Sean Penn had to be read by Penn and approved.

Man, I'm just happy Marion Cotillard won Best Actress. I love her.

yea i thought he hosted too...i guess it was the emmys...but...but...that means i was watching the emmys??! :wow:

no...

NOO!!....

At least it wasn't the Grammies.

Best Oscar hosts of recent memory:

1. Billy Crystal
2. Steve Martin
3. Chris Rock

Bring one of them back next year please.

A lot thought Casey Affleck was better than Bardem in a less obvious type role but the film on a whole had no backing from the moment it got it's release shuffled over and over, the studio just wasn't interested in pushing for it.

Which is a shame in itself.

You know I'm glad the Coen Brothers won but... You know I just watched Scorcese's Mean Streets again and damn it's not perfect but its got so much passion compare to something like the Departed. This is how I feel about No Country for Old Men(which is better than the departed) good movie but it lacked the passion that Fargo had which seem so fresh.

Seriously, they should give Crystal a blank cheque to get him to host again.

I loved the opening skit with Billy crystal, where he was inside all the movies that were nominated...:funny:

they should do something like that again. i wish they would have this year..

It's sitting on my shelf behind me, ive had it on DVD for 2 years now.

You should watch it. It's the way of the future. The way of the future. Way of the future. Way of the future. The way of the future. The way of the future. The way of the future. The way of the future. The way of the future. The way of the future. Way of the future. Way of the future. The way of the future. Way of the future. Way of the future. Way of the future. Last Year was a great moment for me when the Departed won . I was really pulling for that film .

I guess directors don't have passion anymore... but no your right.... Scorcese won it because it was a life time acheivement award... the guy had other projects and other opportunities... but I guess the Academy owed him... and Fargo was a better film than Country... Country was more entertaining... but I didn't see the emotion either... it was just intensity without emotion. No their best work... but not every year is going to feature ever lasting work that will be long remembered many years from now... this was yet again another forgettable year.

i watched chicago the other day

i give it a 7/10...

i don't know how it can win Best picture, and sweeney todd doesn't even get nominated?!...i really don't understand these people...i really don't...

THey were tired of the Burton formula... I mean cmon... how many times are you going to have the young Blonde innocent damsel in distress... and the old dude taking away the bride... I mean at least there was a twist at the end so maybe I am not giving the film enough credit...

I personally thought Good fellas is a much better film....

It's one of the best films in my opinion. I felt close to the Departed because I actually observed filming one day , It was partly made in my area, and I just like it overall. Goodfellas will always be one of my favorite movies though.

You see I strongly disagree. With movies like There Will Be Blood, Sweeney Todd and Atonement there were very memorable long lasting great pieces of cinema that had the heart and depth from their auteurs that was missing in NCFOM. And while Juno, Into the Wild, The Assassination of Jesse James and even Zodiac won't be remembered except by cinephiles in the long scheme of things (well actually I see Juno becoming a landmark youth film for this generation) they all were not meant for mass consumption but were brilliant and had the passion that NCFOM lacked (not to mention better pacing and endings).

I think this was an AMAZING YEAR for cinema and NCFOM will be remembered for its villain, but I think there were better movies. I think all five nominees will be remembered in some way, with Juno entering pop culture the way certain movies that speak to generations (The Graduate, American Graffitti, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Clerks, etc.) does. A great year. I simply think a decent movie that has a great villain won over MANY more deserving films.

When Anton finds Josh Brolin character in the hotel room and they shoot at each other across the town.

 That was amazing I will agree.

For some reason with you speaking about the ending, I thought you were talking about the shootout that was offscreen. Hence my question.

I think Sweeney Todd is the best thing Burton has made in a while . The passion exists.

P.S. Sweeney Todd was based on a musical, which was based on a play which was based on an urban British legend. So saying that Burton reused the same story with a man taking away a bridal blonde or just adding a twist doesn't take into account that it was already that story, he just gave it brilliant cinematic life.
