21 Jump Street 2

Guess theres no embargo as im seeing lots of reactions. Lots of love. So refreshing to see a no embargo.

Really curious about the end credits. Apparently their hilarious and shoot down any chances of another film.

Man. Read the positive Variety review and they spoiled the end credit scenes. Can't reviewers review without describing everything?

They've been promoting this film hard as hell. Its gonna be funny if the movie doesn't do too well lol

It'll do well. Built in audience from the first and positive buzz now.

Lord/Miller sound like they'd be perfect for Ant-man. If I were Marvel, I'd delay the movie and pay what was needed to get them on board.

Why would they? So Marvel can just meddle and tell them what to do?

Yeah, no thanks.

I got tickets to see this Tuesday. Can't wait. It's tracking for a $55 million opening which would beat the $36 mill of the first.

Yeah, no thanks.

You think Marvel meddled with Shane Black, the Russos and James Gunn?

Wright left because he fell behind schedule and couldn't control the budget. You don't get creative differences a few weeks out from shooting. Creative differences happen in the conception and screen play drafting stage.

Considering the Mandarin we got, I will never, EVER assume Marvel meddls with a vision. No ****ing way a suit suggested that.

Man it seems I can never escape either Marvel or Star Wars talk.....even in a 22 Jump Street thread.

:o

What can I say, it's the new Nolan.

97% on Rotten Tomatoes at the moment. Consensus:

"Boasting even more of the bromantic chemistry between its stars -- and even more of the goofy, good-natured humor that made its predecessor so much fun -- 22 Jump Street is the rare sequel that improves upon the original."

Sounds like this movie is a slam-dunk and just as good if not better than its predecessor, which is fantastic as 21 Jump Street is one of my favorite comedies.

Lord and Miller can do no wrong. Also giving props to Tatum's ridiculous comedic timing.

Wow, if it stays in the mid-high 90's wouldn't this be one of the best reviewed comedy sequels of all time? Maybe even the best reviewed comedy ever?

Surprised that it is getting great reviews. I loved the first one, and figured there was no way that this would be as good or better as reviews are saying!

Yeah I thought it was going to be a Hangover 2 situation. I'm interested in seeing this now.

Keep in mind this does have the same plot again. Only it's self-aware. If you aren't ok with that you probably won't like it.

If it does, the formula must work again because it is getting better responses than movies that were pretty much the same as the predecessor like the Hangover Part II did.

Well technically, it IS a Hangover 2 situation...only they make that known from the get-go.

It's the fact that they explicitly acknowledge its the exact same plot of the first one is what makes it unique.

They know exactly what it is and tell you as such. The genius lies in still making it fresh. Which they apparently have succeeded at.

Surprised there's not any reactions in this thread. It's already playing in the UK.

That's kinda of a double standard then. I loved 21 jump street and will be seeing the sequel this weekend. However, I loved hangover 1 and still consider that movie to be one of the best comedies of all time in my book. I wasn't crazy about the Hangover 2 but it's weird that critics tore that movie apart for being the same as the first movie but give 22 jump street a pass just because they acknowledge that they are doing the same thing as the first. Granted, this looks way funnier than any of the hangover sequels so maybe the jokes and stuff work better which makes it fresh.

Basically in entertainment if you openly self deprecate yourself you don't really get lambasted for being self aware.

Yea, apparently there is lines making fun of the whole studio sequel thing. Even the first one had some satire with their chief acknowledging the nature of remakes and reboots by saying they've ran out of ideas and things like that.

It's a great way to beat the critics to the punch. How can you criticize something that is criticizing itself lol

Hell, tv shows do it all the time with little gags about "are we still on the air?" and ****.
