I think the actuals will be lower just like IA2.

but man R rated movie getting PG rated opening means people were waiting for a hradcore r rated sword and scandal movie.

but i think this movie will be frontloaded because all R rated movies are unless they are smply masterpeices or revolutnary which 300 aint.

it is a good , fun hardcore movie. (8/10)

Still i am impressed.

FOX u better make live free or die hard, avp 2, hannibal and wolverine R rated movies and i am sure the fanbase will support bigtime and those movies can get huge opening weekend.

It was already stated AVP2 was gonna be R rated.

and you sir win the prize...:woot:
EDIT: Advanced Dark got it close as well, kudos to you both.
i know tons of people who are DTING to see this movie....

im voting around 60mil

7 posters voted above 60 million. Is there a way to list their names?

Holy **** this movie is raping the box office. I figured 60 million but 70 is insane. I never thought it'd hit that high in my wildest dreams. Will there be a huge drop off or will it hold up. That's just amazing for an R rated film in March. At the same time I think Feb & March are great months to release a big budget action film like this in Ghost Rider because there's usually absoloutely NO competition at all. Hopefully this will be a trend that will help unclog the Summer pipeline because this Summer is not too bad but 2008 is just jam packed too tight and 2009 is shaping up to be even worse. :(

Thou I didn't vote , u can check on the 1st page that I made a bet bout it having at least 300 millions , and now with already 70 millions on the US , I believe it's very much possible

I seriously am amazed on how well the movie did.

Well if 300 goes down 45% per week on average which would be damn good for the next 5 weekends where would it be. Someone figure it out and get back to me. :) Someone is gonna need to estimate the weekday #'s maybe based of Ice Age 2 for lack of a better comparison in the same time frame.

38.5 million
19.25 million
16.5 million (rounded off)
9 million (about)
5 million (around there)

Even if it has a steep dropoff pattern, 300 should make at least $175 million domestic. And if it develops decent legs then it can go over the $ 200 million mark. Sword and sandal films usually make more money internationally than domestically, so the worldwide box office could well be in the high 300's to mid-400's range. All on a $ 65 million budget. A major profit machine for Warners, and a welcome one given their mostly disappointing results in 2006.

76 millions worldwide and these are internayional premiere dates :

Australia 4/5/07
Brazil 3/30/07
France 3/21/07
Germany 4/5/07
Italy 3/23/07
Mexico 3/23/07
South Korea 3/14/07
Spain 3/23/07
United Kingdom 3/23/07

This is an R-rated movie. Tough break. Nevertheless, I predict it will reach around $200m on final tally.

I had figured around maybe 50 mil (didn't vote on the pole) but not 70 mil!!

THAT IS AWESOME!

the "R" rating taken into consideration and the fact that every IMAX everywhere sold out all weekend from ONLINE sales alone!!! And the new trailers are trying to make it look like a gladiator to get the more MILD consumers!!!! hmmm

71.2 MILLION opening week when IMAX is added in
180 MILLION total domestic run
210 MILLION overseas

I am an optimist... i dont mind being wrong!

is it okay to quote myself?

good lord,it made a shyteload of cash this weekend

X3 was bound to make more money than Superman for several reasons:

1) The X-Men series is more popular than the S-franchise right now.
2) Supes had to deal with Pirates 2, while X3 dealt with the Break-Up.
Yes Pirates 2 was the only reason SR (supposedly) crawled over 200mil on a 204 million dollar budget. I think that it's clear that the WB screwed themselves by turning superman into a bland actionless drama.

Congrats to 300 for shattering all expectations and bringing in an estimated 70mil this past weekend.

Weekend actuals are out:

FRI: $28.107
SAT: $24.680
SUN: $18.098
Weekend: $70,885,301

It officially has the 3rd highest opening weekend ever for an R-rated film and has dethroned Ice Age 2 for largest opening weekend of any film in March.

WOW! 70 million is huge. It surpassed it's production budget in it's first weekend. How often does that happen for this kind of movie? Pretty amazing. I do think it will experience a fairly big dropoff by next weekend as movies like this are usually pretty frontloaded but word of mouth seems to be pretty good and even if it drops 45-50% next week it will still be better than anyone predicted. Hell, even Warner's people said they only expected about 45 million.
