6.12 Labyrinth - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Fantastic episode. The acting was phenomenal. Everyone was amazing, and Tom Welling especially, but I'll take my gushing to the appropriate thread later. ;)

I'll be there gushing with you. :D I think that this was the first episode where Clark/Tom have been in every single scene. All things considered, with Clark being outside of his usual character and the fact that this is a TV show shot in a limited amount of time, that's quite an accomplishment. Kudos Mr. Welling.

Loved Shelby coming through like that at the end. :) And MM was so well played, I can tell he's going to be a terrific addition to the show.

And he came through because Clark accepted that this wasnt the world that he should be living in. I cant believe that people are complaining that Clark admitting that he still loves Lana, not here but elsewhere, is regression for his character.

If they could just take their damn Chlark blinders off then they would see that Clark admitting that he does love Lana still, but knowing that he has a destiny greater than a simple life with her on the farm, they just may be able to see it as a serious step forward.

Lol, Sue, I love how our gushing is even worded similarly...check out the post I made in the Welling thread a while ago:

I am just in awe of how great Tom Welling was in 'Labyrinth.' Phenomenal job. All the anxieties and fears brilliantly put across. Every scene was a standout. And ofcourse, he looked phenomenal too. Lol. The scared/anxious/paranaoid look was really working for him. Hell, what doesn't work for him?! Lol.

Major kudos to Mr Welling! :) You've made all of us fans proud!

Lol. :)

I know, I just read some of these complaints over at Deknight's blog. A lot of them really seem shipper fuelled, because I remember in the spoilers blog, some of these same Chlark 'shippers hoping and speculating that the AU world would trigger an epiphany for Clark for Chloe's love or something. Now, wouldn't that have been unrealistic or regression too, on Clark's part? Or is only anything related to Lana, regression?

What they're failing to understand is that Clark didn't have an epiphany at all regarding romantic issues, IMO anyways. The fact that he still loves Lana, first of all, I dont find all that unrealistic, so I dont think its regression. But it was more him realizing, like you said, the greater work, and destiny. I'd think it was regression if he'd actively pursue Lana in RL, shirking his destiny and duties in the process, but that's not Clark. I'd love to say alk of this on Deknight's blog, but then I'd just get hounded by those 2-3 really nasty 'shippers there. So I wont. :csad:

DeKnight's blog, right? I couldn't believe it either. You'd *think* folks there would be a little more... I dunno... not so 'ship-based? Are most of those folks from K-Site or something?

I'm not a Lana fan by any stretch of the imagination. And while Chloe may be my favorite female character on the show, I'm CHOMPING AT THE BIT to see Clark fall head over heels for Lois. I want to see Clark learn the hard way that all of the superpowers in the world can't save him from getting weak knees around Lois.

last night's episode blew me away. With the exception of a few extremely MINOR nitpicks in story logic (logic? SV?), it was by far the best episode this season - and I loved all of the Lana moments, even the loft scenes. :p :p :p

The only "regression" I saw was in Chloe's reaction to Clark's realization. Allison seemed to play it as if she were a little hurt to hear Clark still loved Lana. Nothing major. Just something I noticed.

To me, the realization that Clark still loved Lana wasn't a "I'm going to pursue her" kind of realization. If anything, I think Clark was lamenting the fact that he almost gave up everything and everyone in the real world, only to be with Lana in a fantasy one. I think that's very important for his character. Being with Lana is not his "destiny" to paraphrase Alternate-Lana. I think he really is starting to know this now.

I thought Chloe's reaction was more out of concern for Clark vs. any kind of subconscious jealousy or pining she may have harbored. Clark quite obviously still loves Lana. He never stopped loving Lana, despite his words and actions. That's been very VERY obvious. But he knows they can never be together, which pains him and by extension, induces pity from Chloe. Chloe loves Clark and doesn't want to see him suffer.

Well... that's how I'd like to think of it anyway. :(

Imo Chloe looked like "why do you you still love that girl" .

Lol.

After I wrote that I went into the TW thread and saw. How funny. Tom Welling unites us in many ways.

Well I had to answer, firstly because that Monkey dude was having a go at Pat, and well I like to stand by friends, but secondly because I hate it when people interpret things based on bias. I dont think anything gets me riled up more.

I dont think she was sad because of her feelings, I think she was sad for Clark. That he still loved Lana and is really in no position to do anything about it.

Exactly.

I must have missed that there. Why am I not surprised it's that Monkey Blunts guy. :whatever: It's him and a couple others that just :cmad: Anyway, I'll go have a second look and see if I can add any worthy two bits. :)

welling acted extrme good.

p.s. what was the purpose of this episode? to show again a crazy clark and to show us 5 seconds of the MH?
very bad.

Wait! He was? LOL I haven't been to DeKnight's blog since way early this morning. I responded to Evilicious (sp?) and that was that. Too funny.

Well... I think I'll avoid strolling over there till later this evening. I've got too much to do, and that sort of thing tends to wind me up like a top. Pull the string; watch Pat go!

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee......................

LOL ;)

Just wondering, not sure if it has been discussed here or somewhere else on this board, but anyone else wonder if Martian Manhunter came from the phantom zone? I mean we don't see him until he comes looking for someone from the phantom zone and he seems to know a lot about Clark. We all know MM can read minds but I wonder if there is something more to it.

Rewatched it and I've just gotta say, did anyone else find Rosenbaum dealivery of "superpowers" in his meeting with Clark just hilarious?

Anyone? Watch it again its real quite funny.

Hes from this solar system why would he have been in the phantom zone?

Well who knows how long since Mars has had life on it and maybe he was somehow transported to the phantom zone instead of Earth before Mars went bye bye. Who knows, just asking a question and I don't think the phantom zone is inclusive to one solar system, I think of it as a pocket dimension and obviously with the right equipment can be accessed anywhere.

In the Manhunter thread, there's a link to an interview in which Morris explains that J'Onn has been observing Clark all his life.

I still dun get why you think he would be from the Zone though? He could be i guess, but only Kryptonians created the Zone, and only they can put beings[criminals] in their. Also Mars didn't go Bye Bye, MM people were wiped out.

It's really quite funny, he calls you son and buddy and then goes on and calls you out in his own malicious way.

Give it back to him a beauty will you. :woot:

Strange in a recent interview with Phil Morris, he says that he's been watching over Clark his whole life on Earth.

I did not see that, thanks for the info.

IF MM was watching over clark, where was he when Brainiac and "Zod" were causeing choas for clark and earth?

I never said he was from there, I was saying he could have been in there. Someone else pointed out that Morris said he was watching him all his life so I will take that as an answer to my question. As far as Mars going Bye Bye, I meant the people not the planet. If they were wiped out, what wiped them out? In the smallville world you really cannot go by the comics since a lot of it is new stuff. As far as the phantom zone I see it to be like the negative zone in marel comics. It was not created by the kryptonians but they had access to it or discovered access to it.

*peeking in*

Whew. I'm so glad to see my regulars aren't judging this episode strictly on shipper-related terms. This episode went so far in revealing much of what is actually going on in Clark's head, and heart. It was about Clark, more than any shipper stuff.

As a Clana fan, you know I got a thrill at hearing him verbalize that he still loves Lana, but it was a bittersweet thrill, not a 'omg, they're getting back together!' thrill. More than ever, Clark is putting his feelings for Lana into perspective, and we are on the no-return road to him moving on. Accepting that he loves her, is progress - for Clark, for Lana, but not for Clana.. not really.

The Chloe thing..Eh. I do think she looked hurt, and that somewhat reflected her comments about him choosing Lana in his fantasy. Hurt for him, or hurt for her? I'm going with both. I think Chloe is still confused, deep down about her feelings for Clark. Not that she's pining anymore, but those feelings are hard to lose, and easy to have rear up again.
C'mon.. they're sitting fireside and he's telling her how much she means to him. The girl would have to be dead inside not to at least have a little palpitation at that. ;)

SUCH a wonderful episode.. I was truly blown away.

And.. Mr. Welling.. Ohhh... No. words.

Hmm.. sounds like I'll need to make a visit over to SDK's blog. I'm getting tired of people continuing to bash shows, when the real issue is their total inability to actually understand it!

It was a great ep and i think that Rosenbaums performance as little as it was really showed his growth as an actor heis playing being evil so perfect and Welling is just as good. The part at the end with Lex,Lana and Clark with him standing in the middle symbolizing he was in the middle of lana and lex was directed great and how the kiss was very in clarks face. Then Lex just lets lose that bullet of a line, man it was a great ep, next week looks just as good if not better.

Serene, glad to see you here!

I loved the episode, loved it! And Tom was AWESOME!
