Just got back -- the prologue was amazing! Bane's voice and movements were absolutely perfect. He's easily the best villain in the trilogy from what we've seen so far. The sizzle reel was unbelievably epic too!

No. I'm acting as if you made

#1 A statement as fact when it's a preference

#2 a Statement as fact when you have no way to prove it.

You don't like the editing in that shot...ok. That's fine.

But you just told someone they were "wrong" it was a "horrible" editing job.

I'm not sure who you are to suppose that someone is wrong because they're opinion on a matter of preference does not equate to yours.

No. It's bad editing. Any editor will tell you that.

* let me also clarify, im a huge Nolan fan and yes.. its bad editing in the truck chase scene.

double cuts are not very uncommon in action sequences... look at a movie shot in the 80's or 90's you can see houses, boats etc explode from 6 different angles .. so seeing that thing from 2 angles works imo. i didnt really noticed it the first time, but when you see it over and over again it becomes obvious of course... the truck flip in TDK has also a double cut and nobody was freakin out there ...

and also you have to cut more slowly for imax because the image is so huge..

Look at any Cameron, Spielberg, or Mann action scene and I guarantee you'll never see a double cut during an action scene. For example, the car crash in Collateral. It was filmed from several different angles, but the editing continuity is perfect between shots (skip to 5:49):

I get the whole IMAX argument, but that doesn't give Nolan an excuse to have such amateurish editing during his action scenes.

Nolans problem in editing isn't double cuts.. its continuity within the scene.

If you're problem is with a double-cut that's a matter of preference, if its a matter of continuity thats a whole other matter.

Can we just agree that the editing in those two shot was chronologically inconsistent which they are?

Doesn't make the scene any less great which Celtic isn't saying either. To my understanding he very much enjoyed it.

Despite that minor quibble I'm in love with the scene still so even noticing that hasn't changed my feelings on the it whatsoever.

You also made the claim. Please. Enlighten me.

Because you're saying i'm wrong. So how are you right?

No I didn't. in fact I told you i know people who'd agree with me AND YOU about caring about the director.

I've admitted I don't know most people and could not tell you which way "most" people would side but neither can you so it's a horrible defense to your initial claim:

That the editing job on that shot is wholly "horrible" as fact, essentially saying anyone who thought it was an ok editing job is wrong.

and I'm wondering when Zeus made you God of editing to tell people that their preference on a aesthetic is wrong.

Yeah, the scene is fine. I'm just saying, as someone who likes editing, and who enjoys good editing, it didn't work for me. Oh well.

sooo.... can't wait to see the prologue tomorrow, anybody else excited? looking forward to seeing bane blow up the plane after grabbing Pavel on the huge screen, looks like something in a nasa video, and that's in a crappy version on my computer

I agree I think the editing on the truck chase is pretty bad.

Maybe some of you are misunderstanding me.

I don't CARE if someone doesn't like the editing in the prologue. I do care if they start acting as if they're opinion is some kind of scientific fact and anyone who doesn't agree is wrong.

This is not a debate about the editing but whether or not Celtic's opinion can be/Should be treated as the know-all-be-all of editing.

If he had simply said: "I think it's a horrible job" instead of saying: "Wrong. It's just horrible editing"

I wouldn't have said anything

No. I was actually knighted as the Editing God by King Zesuaeddator.

You didn't know this?

Because i'm editing something now. Boom. Hence fourth, I know more then you.

and scholars who knew more about science and geography knew more than average people and still insisted the world was flat.

Your opinion is not a fact.

Objectively, the scene is edited wrongly. Celtic isn't insulting you or anyone else here. He's just stating something that can be found in any filmmaking textbook.

This discussion isn't going anywhere, I think it's time to move on.

Actually, everything I say is fact. Yep. Knighted by the God Factro.

The sky is purple. Therefore green!

Exactly. Double-cutting is a method that even has its own term and other action movies have used it, it's not like Nolan went off and messed up so badly that what he did doesn't even have a name and was ONLY used by amateur filmmakers on YouTube. :oldrazz:

I can see why they went for the double-cut though. The tail comes off very quickly so they might have wanted to extend that action a little. Also, it's the first view of the hole from that angle so they're introducing you to that position before the guys with the body bags come down and cause more confusion. :funny:

I didn't even notice whatever it is you guys are talking about .

I am now. Because you're being insane. There are rules that are already set in way things are edited.

Sometimes things can be broken.

But from an editing standpoint, it is not good.

You guys are complaining to the guy who directed Memento. Chill out guys, he knows what he's doing
