The prologue seemed more James Bond than Batman. I love both, so I'm not complaining, but that's how it seemed to me.

They are quite different, I love them both for different reasons.

Which could be a great indicator of how the final movie will turn out.
Yeah, I think that's what Nolan is going for. A film that's different from TDK (kind of like TDK was fairly different from BB) but can still be seen as better to an extent. But it's different enough that the comparison is a bit hard to make so, as a result, we love them in different ways, as you put it.

A lesser director would try to top TDK by expanding everything it built on. Nolan seemingly (and wisely) has attempted to make a film with a completely different tone and style. I wish more sequels did this. Spielberg realised this with the Indy flicks.

The narrative of TDK's prologue versus Tom Hardy's delivery/vertical plane shot of TDKR's prologue is a tough comparison. Both amazing and great openings for sure
To me, I think TDKR prologue might take the cake only if I could've heard the dialogue... :o I think the heavy audio mixing used for the plane didn't bode well with IMAX's sound system when it came to the audio for the dialogue.. :(

I'll admit, seeing the proloque and you can't stop thinking about how that CIA guy is a REALLY bad actor! Even more so, he's just exstemely annoying! He can't deliver one line without sounding totally lame... But everything else is just so damn good that it's forgiven, haha.

While I enjoyed both prologue's for TDK and TDKR, I think I'd have to give the edge to TDK's mainly because it was original. I felt the TDKR one was too similar with the whole 'red herring".

The TDKR prologue is better. For the simple fact that one of bane's men will go down with the plane for their cause amps up the danger. That's needed for TDKR to be better than TDK. If the danger/conflict bar isn't raised, it won't be as good. Look at other movie examples to see where the third movie failed. alien 3, terminator 3, spider-man 3, superman 3, x-men 3. those all failed when compared to the previous the film in their series because the bar wasn't raised in characters, story or villains. Nolan has a great chance to break that streak.

I think Aidan Gillen was meant to be annoying.

Exactly. Now I think he is overacting a bit too much in certain parts. But it is quite clear even from the first shot of him (that *****e stance!) that he is meant to be an insecure *****e trying to overcompensate.

I guess I just thought the whole 'guy in the mask, is not who you think it is" routine had been done and done better in TDK. Just wished they would have done something a bit different. Otherwise, it was fairly well done in terms of action.

There are very few actors that play smarmy, slimy, snakes like Aidan Gillen does, and that's the way the character was supposed to be played imo.

I think I forgave it for that since Bane was revealed way earlier than Joker was.

The TDKR prologue may not have been better overall, but it definitely had better overall dialogue.

"The Fire Rises" exchange still gives me chills.

Ya, I suppose your right. However, I guess I kinda liked the fact that I didn't know what was going to be in the TDK prologue. I just remember hearing it was the first 6 minutes of the film, whereas I guess with this one, all I kept hearing was this would be containing Bane, so I knew he'd be one of the hooded guys. Either way, just wish they had done something a bit more original, otherwise it was a pretty good opening. Also, with the Joker, I could see the need for disguises etc. Whereas with Bane, I'm just expecting the guy to come at you full force, with no need for hoods etc. I would have loved to have seen him just jump off that other plane and crash right through the cockpit like a human torpedo. Would have set it up a bit better to show what physical force he is and how different he is then the joker. Less scheming, more brutality I guess.
P.s. I do understand that the bane character is master of strategy etc, but I'm mainly going by Nolan's comments on how this character would be so different the joker archetype. Anyways, I'd be lying if I didn't say I was on the edge of my seat, but I guess those were just my critiques. I'm sure the film will still be amazing.

Im not sure. The CIA guy's delivery was so cheesy that it managed to be unintentionally hilarious. Or was it intentional? I don't know. Either way, it was bad.

I actually found TDKR's prologue to be far more exciting and suspenseful than TDK's. Quite frankly, the bank heist didn't do anything for me.

Have we started a fire?

Says the attractive henchman

It is intentional. Remember the role William Atherton played in "Ghostbusters"? That's basically who Aiden Gillen is playing here. And I love it. I love cocksure ******* characters like these, and thought Gillen did a great job at it.

I actually agree... Other then the gliding over the street below, from one building to another, then there wasn't really that much to it. It was mostly character building for the joker... TDKR's proloque is much more suspenseful!
