Yeah, I think that's what Nolan is going for. A film that's different from TDK (kind of like TDK was fairly different from BB) but can still be seen as better to an extent. But it's different enough that the comparison is a bit hard to make so, as a result, we love them in different ways, as you put it.They are quite different, I love them both for different reasons.
Which could be a great indicator of how the final movie will turn out.
The prologue seemed more James Bond than Batman. I love both, so I'm not complaining, but that's how it seemed to me.

To me, I think TDKR prologue might take the cake only if I could've heard the dialogue...The narrative of TDK's prologue versus Tom Hardy's delivery/vertical plane shot of TDKR's prologue is a tough comparison. Both amazing and great openings for sure
I think Aidan Gillen was meant to be annoying.
Agreed. There's a reason people were calling him CIA *****e in the very early leaks.I think Aidan Gillen was meant to be annoying.
I think I forgave it for that since Bane was revealed way earlier than Joker was.I guess I just thought the whole 'guy in the mask, is not who you think it is" routine had been done and done better in TDK. Just wished they would have done something a bit different. Otherwise, it was fairly well done in terms of action.

Im not sure. The CIA guy's delivery was so cheesy that it managed to be unintentionally hilarious. Or was it intentional? I don't know. Either way, it was bad.The TDKR prologue may not have been better overall, but it definitely had better overall dialogue.
"The Fire Rises" exchange still gives me chills.

I actually found TDKR's prologue to be far more exciting and suspenseful than TDK's. Quite frankly, the bank heist didn't do anything for me.
