It should be comprehensible, stop pushing everything to the extreme.

No. It should be realistic. End of story. If a character is meant to be hard to hear because he has a mask bolted to his jaw, that's what it is meant to be.

A British accent to me evokes a level of sophistication and class I wouldn't necessarily assume from a character described as a monster and a "horrible" terrorist. There's just an endearing quality to those accents that I wouldn't associate with some who has been described as someone soooooooooooooo brutal. Of course I know there are "terrible" British people but I believe that's just the way many non-nationals perceive that accent.

I was merely expecting a more obscure accent that would immediately let me know that this is a kind of character capable of levels of brutality and menace we've never seen before. The British-mastermind villain thing seems a bit too Bond to me.

Stereotyping, yo:o

My cousins are British and are the most evil people I know. Sophistication my ass :cmad:

I don't mind him having a British accent, but if it's the same as the Heinz shoot (which would appear likely) I might take issue.

Everything else is awesomesauce obviously and the voice isn't going to ruin the film for me, or anyone else obviously.

A friend of mine was at the screening!! I had no idea! Now I'm mad he didn't invite me. Calling now. Will get more specific details from him for all you guys. :cmad:

And cross him off your Xmas card list too.

Again.... most Robert Altman movies, the Rockey movies,... many many examples of great films with hard-to-understand characters. We have to make the distinction between a stylistic choice and a technical problem.

If Watanabe's delivery of dialog was deliberately chosen to be incomprehensible (and wasn't simply a failure on Watanbe's part as an actor), then it was the wrong choice, and was a failing on Nolan's part as a director to accept that choice.

So who's going to be the generous soul who decides to post a blow-by-blow :awesome:?

So at least it's back to only Batman that we can't understand again! :oldrazz:

Ahh man...can we talk about why no one has given a detailed description yet? I'm sure it would have leaked b now.

We hear, though, that Nolan's aware of the problem and they will fix via ADR (automated dialogue replacement).

Maybe this will calm people down. Taken from Kvz5's post.

It's not a deal-breaker but if I hate the accent and voice (and possibly the dialogue), then it could serve as a distraction for me.
i can hate the dialogue but doubtful about the accent. and i need to hear the actual voice before i can say it's the suxxors or i'm disappointed huhuhuhu

Is comprehensible and realistic mutually exclusive to you?

Oh and a british accent not being able to sound brutal or scary? Just look as far as Hardy in Bronson.

An accent in itself is not a fact to the way you speak. It is about more than that to me.

But to me I've always wanted him to have that drugged up Voldemort voice he had in the leaked audio from Heinz since I've heard it so.

British accent isn't that bad. It's that he sounds like he's 80 years old that sucks. This is assuming he sounds as he does in the set video.

Yeah, everyone should stop complaining and focus on what is truly important...

that, with the nearest IMAX hours away, my local newspaper just announced today that our new IMAX will have its grand opening next Friday, December 16th and...

IT'S ****ING DIGITAL!?!?!?!??!?!!!

I wonder if the Dent tribute Gordon gives is footage from film 2, or at least some of it.

Sneider/Variety:

Nolan seemed aware of the criticism & will likely take steps to address it in post....
The prologue is set on a loud plane so that may be the culprit... Maybe turn down the background noise.

Ahh man...can we talk about why no one has given a detailed description yet? I'm sure it would have leaked b now.

Most of the people were of the industry so its gonna have to be someone who's not gonna get backlash.

I understood him just fine.

Yes, but it'll still be British :o
