6 years later...

I love the first one. Def time to rewatch it.

I saw it 5 times in the movie theater. It's my favorite out of the three with the 3rd being the second..

rewatching 1 and 2 now and they are as awesome as ever

SM1 is definitely my favorite. SM3 is just horribly awful. SM2 has better action but i think the plot of SM1 is better. Also i don't like Dock Ock being controlled by his tentacles. They way Spidey defeated him was kinda stupid if you ask me. The tentacles stop working when they get wet?

SM-1 is second favourite one after Spider-Man 2. They compliment eachother wonderfully, and they really feel like connected movies.

The tentacles stop working when they get wet?

What?

The tentacles stopped working when Ock died. If they stopped working when they got wet, then he would have stopped fighting when Spidey knocked him into the water just before MJ began to get sucked towards the reactor.

Sm1 was great. It still stands the test for me, after all these years. SM2, however, that is the bees knees. That is the pinnacle of superhero movies. It was worse than the previous two, but still better than most superhero movies out there.

Spider-Man, the original...that was a great film, though.

All this talk about Spider-Man: The Movie is making me want to watch it. And you know? I think I'm going to watch it.

Spiderman 1 and 3 are very good. Spiderman 2 felt a little "different" but it was still tight. I got the trilogy box set for christmas :)

I recently watched the SM trilogy a couple of weeks ago and saw part of SM1 on TNT yesterday again. And I was thinking that in retrospect that this may be a near perfect adaptation of the Spidey comics.

Now hear me out. I still think Spider-Man 2 is a much better movie in terms of pure cinema and has better action. And because of that and the obvious newness that wore off the first Spidey, most of us overlooked SM1 as just its problems (the GG suit, the cheesiness of people saving Peter's life, no ariel, battle, etc.). But considering the budget and technological problems, watching this movie with fresh eyes made me appreciate it much more. It's all here besides mechanical web-shooters. Spidey's origin is perfectly executed. Him learning to climb, beating up Flash, getting confidence in the wrestling ring, Uncle Ben's more logical murder, etc. Dafoe pretty much plays Stan Lee's GG to perfection. Peter has a strong supporting cast, JJJ tries to protect Peter but Spidey webs his mouth shut when he starts yammering on again. The city is unsure about Spidey and dislikes him. MJ is more outgoing and friendly, with her own confidence. Even the wisecracks are here. Mind you 2/3 of them are not well written or poorly delivered, but I think if you played the video games you know Maguire got better at them and it was a bad decision to mute Spidey for the most part in SM2 (in SM3 it is almost always "so serious," there is no time for jokes). I mean it is all here.

There was plenty of jokes  The opening act with Sandman, the scenes with Harry and Peter in the last act, etc.

I'm going to quote myself from another thread

Last night I re-watched Spider-Man 3 for the first time since I watched it in the theater (note: I loved it, no complaints here ) with the commentary on. It made me like and appreciate the movie even more. I just wish they'd stay on topic more, and comment on each scene as they come on. They went off in their own conversation way too much for me at times.

It also reaffirmed by Tobey Maguire is perfect for Peter Parker/Spider-Man and the recasting threads should die into obscurity... He has great comedic timing, his voice is PERFECT for all the Spidey 'quips' during fight scenes and the general plain dialogue (reminds me a lot like Christopher Daniel Barnes) and just has a genuine feel for Parker. (I also rewatched his screen test. He was really fit wasn't he? Hopefully he can back in shape again). Franco and Raimi often complimented on the way he would deliver some of his lines and I completely agree.

Another thing I noticed; Maguire and Franco are really believable as best friends. I didn't ever get that feeling from any Spider-Man medium, even the animated series (which is pretty much perfect to me). In the scene where Harry comments during the climax fight scene between Venom/Sandman 'looks like I came just in the nick of time,' Peter replies 'a few minutes earlier would have been nice,'. That and when Harry tells Pete to 'hang on!' when they are on the glider, and he just shouts back 'TO WHAT?!'

As a long time spider-man fan I was always excited to see spider-man on the big sceen but the movies ended up leaving me quite cold. I think this was primarily due to the fact that my expectations were maybe too high and fundimentally, the films were ery different from what I had envisioned the films to be like in my own mind.

Since the release of spectacular spider-man, the cartoon show. I've come to realise that it's almost a near perfect adaptation of the original comics but simultaneously, it's very different. I understand that the moies have to take certain liberties and I'm still convinced that the movies could be better but I've recently come to understand that the movies are what they are and are interpreting the comics in its own way. You see, I was rather angry at some of the changes made because that's not how they occured in the comics but when I look at awesome shows like spectacular that also take similar liberties, why is it I don't have a problem with it? I can't really justify the conflicting logic without going off on a tangent so, I've accepted that I need to watch all 3 movies again, properly and just go with what it is instead of what I want them to be.

As for sm3, the film may not be prefect but I give kudos to the cast and crew for giving us a film with the most comic book feel to it out of the three movies.

I don't think I ever waited for a superhero movie as I did with Spiderman 1. Specially when I knew Sam Raimi was directing.

But it was a semi-dissapointment to me. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Too predictable, the humour was terrible and all over the film and it had too much of cartoony character description. The clichéd nerd, the clichéd pretty woman, school bully, etc etc.

I don't hate the movie but I can't watch but just the action scenes now. Spiderman 2 is immensely better.

S-M1 to me is the best in the trilogy. I may make a video later and explain why. Going to do a Spider-Man film series review like I did with X-Men, except this review will be more in-depth.
