7.07 - Wrath - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Nope. Totally disagree. :D

Well explain then. Besides slapping her - which was horrible but not enough to warrant her wanting to kill him - what else did Lex do to Lana besides the whole fake baby thing? THAT is why she's pissed with Lex. The whole thing about exposing his alien research is a smokescreen - even Lex knew that.

Wow...what a twist.

Unlike the other episodes, I hated everything about this EXCEPT the last 10 minutes. It's always the other way around.

But the glorious final act gave us:
- Chloe confronting Lana
- Clark confronting Lex
- That thing which I assume is Brainiac
- Clark confronting Lana

Woohoo! Clark's finally beginning to see the real Lana Lang! Now maybe we can leave the character and move on with our lives. :whatever:

Chloe/Lana at the end was definitely the scene of the night for me. Clana has been shoved down our throats for so long yet I can't remember the last time I liked her character. It just showed perfectly why Chloe is Clark's #1.

Same here. Just from the way Clark said it. The tone he used.

'It will take her some time to get over what Lex did to her.'

He used a tone of voice that makes it sound like Lex just send Lana the wrong kind of flowers for her birthday. Definitely not the tone someone would use who knows it. There was also no change of expression before and after he said it.

And if he really does know then he is pretty low on the feelings there. Because the fake baby thing is a huge emotional deal.

I think it would have been nice for them to, by now, have made it clearer if Clark knows about the faked pregnancy or not.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that Clark and Lana talked about how she set up her own death. And the cloning part would come up in there.

IMO she has not told Clark about the fake baby thing because it would seriously piss off Clark. It would piss of anyone who had that happen to a friend and even worse someone they love. And he would go do something stupid.

Cloning Lana is FAR from something she'd want to kill Lex for. The clone itself wasn't even "human" as Lana didn't see any problem with placing it in a vehicle and blowing it up.

"It will take her some time to get over what Lex did to her."

What did Lex actually DO to Lana besides slap her and inject her with fake hormones to make her believe she was pregnant?

If it's not the fake baby, it's gotta be something more horrible than snagging a few cells or sending her the wrong kind of flowers for her B-Day. She went all La Femme Nikita on Lex *before* she got Clark's powers. After the powers, she choked Grant for not running a story, kicked Lois across the room putting her in the hospital, choked Lex twice and was about to kill him before Clark showed up. If Lana wanted Lex stopped, she could have went to the police with her evidence. No... she wanted vengeance, and she wasn't afraid to get her hands bloody. Her words, not mine.

Clark is NOT stupid, and neither is Chloe. They're seeing a whole nutha side of Lana, a side that Lex and Lionel recognized a long time ago. The alternative to *not* knowing why Lana was out for blood is believing she's just a psycho nutjob from hell, and that simply isn't the case.

This was quite a fascinating episode, but I can see how it's going to be quite controversial in the weeks to come.

I have to say that I am amazed that Lana did not fly. When Chloe saw Lana mess up the fridge I was expecting her to say "Can you fly yet" ? because she has been nagging Clark about it & then Lana would go outside & fly. The fan back slash from that would be EPIC.

I'm going to write down my impressions about this episode before I read others opinions... Because right now I'm surprised at my reaction... I'm bugged and angry. :csad:

For some reason this season just seems "off." May-be it's the characters acting out-of-character... But whatever, this episode was full of "what the hell?!" moments for me.

The intro had some great scenes, but was still kind of disappointing. (As in, too much was off screen) The idea of them taking advantage of Lana's invincibility was full of potential... and I don't mind "cute," but they treated the "sex" like it was recreational, instead of special, and exaggerated the "super" part of it too much. I could see the barn taking a hit... but, seriously... earthquakes?! :whatever:

But getting beyond that rather quickly... Lana throwing the picture and breaking the mirror... What? Why? They are really trying to show how "disturbed" she is, I guess. Having Lana get "darker" has really not sat well with me... It just feels so odd... and wrong.

But I really started getting ANGRY when Chloe and Clark (who I usually side with in all things) discovered Lana's surveillance set-up at Isis. What was the word Chloe used... she basically called Lana's actions demented, disturbed and evil?

I'm sorry... but what the hell?! The hypocrisy was so thick between them, you could cut it with a knife.

Just what do they think Oliver and his band of merry men have been doing to Lex? They've been SPYING on him, BREAKING IN to his mansion and offices, STEALING secrets, downloading information from his computer, BLOWING UP his facilities... And both Clark and Chloe have helped them do it! Clark wants to JOIN them and Chloe wants to SUPPORT them.

So... just where do they get off condemning Lana, when she keeps tabs on Lex and trys to bring him down with the power of the press?! She KNOWS better than anyone how dangerous Lex is becoming, and how many people he has hurt or killed --

Can anyone honestly tell me (I know it's a tough call for you Lana haters) WHAT the difference is, between Lana and Oliver?!

I don't get why she is keeping it from Clark, but they've only been back together a little while, and she started this before that happened. I feel like she would have had to tell him eventually... but how can he throw stones when he kept HUGE secrets from her for YEARS.

I'm glad to see Lana admitting that she messed things up... And by that I mean, she should have told Clark. She should have trusted him.

But oddly enough, one of the characters speaking the most reason was Lex. When Clark accused him of corrupting Lana, Lex shot back with, don't forget Clark, you were the first to betray her. I hate to say it, but touche. So, Clark is not totally blameless, and he knows it.

It was also a little pathetic for Lex to be gratified to find that Lana still "feels" something for him. Of course, it's burning hatred, but he's so twisted, he'll take it.

And Lionel... as much as he's done... black-mailing her into marrying a man that abused her physically and emotionally... beating a woman to death... shooting people in the back... where does HE get off calling HER disturbed?! I know... she does have problems, and she needs to forgive and trust again... But, still... the way Lionel framed it for Clark... It WOULD have been nice for him to have mentioned HIS part in Lana's path.

Clark did defend her a little... saying it would take time for her to get over what Lex did to her... so at least there was that. Realistically, EVERY relationship will go through an adjustment period, where the person you've been fantasizing about proves to be flawed and human.

Finally... Chloe... I love that she totally has Clark's back, but again, where the hell does she get off pulling the plug on Lana's efforts to bring down Lex when Chloe herself has supported that SAME noble cause.

I am seriously bugged by a lot in this episode... Turmoil. Just what I need before I try to get some sleep tonight... :csad: :whatever:

You know what? We, as the audience, just have no idea how much everyone knows. And that's kind of the point of our contention.

Lexana and Clexana have been such a dominant theme from S6 that I don't think I was alone in expecting more to be explained in S7. I'm enjoying all the Lexana and Clex thrown at us so far but sooooo much is being left to offscreenville!

More than a Clexana problem, this could really just be a Clana problem. A year ago I could never imagine myself saying this but we need more Clana. Clana has been such a big part of the story going into this season (understatement) and continues to be a major dynamic driving this season yet the Clana scenes we've had are just the "facade" ones where Lana and Clark are playacting and ignoring the big issues. "Kara" -while one of my fave epis of this season- was a missed opportunity to show exactly where things stand btwn all the characters and Lana. Because that was the moment of Lana's return, all issues unaddressed then have since been "forgotten" onscreen. iiiiiiiiiiiii

Anyway, this episode was good because it clarified a little in the way of where Clana stands. It also had some excellent dialog. :) I really liked the ending conversations btwn Clex, Chlana, and Clana. "Don't do that. Don't take on all the blame so you can hold onto this perfect image you created of me." was such a great line from Lana. Man, I really like this Lana. To me this mature driven Lana somehow ties together all past Lanas (seasons-wise) into a coherent whole. That comment, as others have noted, is a direct throwback to S2 Lana.

AM & KK were superb in thier shocking confrontation at the end; totally thrilled me! I was not expecting the close Chlana friendship of S6-7 to take such an abrupt turn. On the other hand, I def agree with jr that Chloe's "defense of Clark" was uncalled-for. Chloe does not know extra info than Clark; Clark can discuss Lana's behavior himself; Chloe could advise, sympathize or shake her head, but the all-out warning was very uncalled for.

I kind of rooted for her in the moment because I just really liked that the show was developing the idea of other characters noticing and respecting the DarkLana but even still I felt a little disgusted with Chloe for her decision to fight over Clark with Lana again a la S2. Yes, this time it's with the guise of friendship, but to me the way Chloe said "Clark deserves that kind of loyalty but I'm beginning to think that you're not the one" (or whatever the exact words) implied a kind of "you don't deserve Clark. I'm more loyal than you; he deserves somebody like me. I'll fight you for him." However, I'm really biased re:Chloe and I'll be the first to admit that. Don't know why that girl doesn't shine in my eyes the way so many other fans see her. :(

p.s. I agree 100% with TheIncredibleHulk re:keeping Superman away from politics, religion and sex. Sex issue is soo tricky. "Hidden", Superman II, Superman Returns, MOSvol.3, S:TAS season 3, and some of the late Silver Age/Bronze Age comics hit a false note when they entangle Supes in those situations. I'm not being anti-Clana lovin' just sayin' that the way pre-Supes goes about it is kindof a touchy subject. I personally hate that CR Supes took Lois to the FOS for sex in SII. Would it have been so hard to go down on his knees first and pop the question?

THANK YOU.
I agree with everything. And thank you even more for showing the similarities between Lana and Oliver and most importantly what role both Chloe and Clark had in the whole 33.1 storyline. I already said it's hypocrisy. Yet they all denied it.

Man! You nailed it totally for me. Smallville has been full of moments like these forever.

What exactly happened after the lab fight? I had to leave. The last thing I saw was Lana berating Clark about having those powers and just hiding on a farm! I was like...."OUCH"!!! What a shot to the heart! But I think she was starting to feel that way and now that she finally got the powers for her self, she's like,"What the heck is Clark thinking?"

Same here. Just from the way Clark said it. The tone he used.

That's why I don't understand the Lana haters! Lex used her like a lab rat! Lionel forced her to marry his son! She hates those guys for a good reason! They screwed with her body and mind!

Anybody getting the feeling that Lois' new boss is working for the Luthors?? He's little too intense about "not going after exposes" on Lex and Lionel. I think it will be revealed later that he is on their payroll. Especially since Perry White will eventually be the guy.

Well haters will only tell you one thing. I've read that enough times by now. It's not cool to experiment on someone. And neither is slapping your wife. But it's Lana. So it's all good and she deserved it.

Btw we were never even told if all the hormones and drugs or whatever had any long term repercussions for Lana. Whatever Lex and the doc used is pretty illegal and I doubt you can find it on the market. Who knows what was in that cocktail of crap. And not just what he gave her daily. The stuff he used to fake miscarriage too. Who's to say that some of the irrational displays of Lana's aren't side affects of her body trying to get rid of those things. What if they actually had serious side affects that are permanent? The drugs screwed up her fertility system, so to speak. What if sterility is one of the permanent side effects? Do we know? No. Because they refuse to tell us.

There is just so much not shown on screen that might explain some of the characters behaviours. I'm really starting to find it hard to come to terms with some of it.

Are you ever happy with ANYTHING? Seriously, your negativity is redundent and utterly annoying

What a fantastic episode!!!

I went in not expecting to like it very much and it ended up being one of my favorite eps of the season!

Who was the director for this episode? I noticed a lot of the cinematography was excellent. I especially liked the lighting in the Clark/Lex scene in the kitchen and the last Clark/Lana scene in the barn. I think Pat mentioned how "gorgeous" Tom looked in those scenes. And even though I'm a totally hetero male, I have to agree. There really was something other worldy about his appearance. His eyes were amazingly blue, and the little hint of an S-Curl, really made Welling drip Superman in those scenes.

My biggest gripe of the episode, and of course I'm the only one who mentioned it (because I'm such a stickler for these things :D), was the fact that, apparently, there are no hospitals in Metropolis. Go figure. One of the largest cities in the world, and Lois has to travel 3 hours to Smallville to get treated for her injuries. Remember in the episode "Crusade" how Lois complained about small town medicine?

It was implied that before Season 4, Lois lived in Metropolis (remember she was taking classes at MetU until Chloe "died"). Now that she works for the Daily Planet, why doesn't she just move back to the city?
Is it that hard to redress the Talon Apartment as a Metropolis one? And would it kill the production designer to redress the SMC as a Metropolis hospital once in a while? Jeez!

Other than the usual Smallville -> Metropolis inconsistency that I always harp on about, everything else was great.

I especially liked all the continuity.

-The power switch harkens back to "Leech" and "Asylum". Also loved Chloe mentioning Eric Summers. Though extra points would've been awarded if she or Clark mentioned Eric's resemblance to Jimmy. :o
-Allusions to "Arrival," "Zod," "Fallout" and Brainiac.
-References to Jonathan's heart condition.
-A Martha reference. Though I wish it were Clark talking to her instead of Lionel. The Lionel/Martha thing still makes me icky!

And the Supersex was great. Someone was complaining about the earthquakes, but c'mon, that was hilarious! I always imagined sex between Superman and Wonder Woman would have a similar outcome!

It truly AMAZES me how one relatively minor detail in an episode can be SOOOO blown out of proportion by some people that ensuing discussion changes the apparent focus of the entire episode to those of us who've yet to see it.

I learned something today. Biased recaps should be taken with a huge honkin' grain of salt.

The supersex camp amounted to a few minutes of silly humor in an otherwise extremely pivotal and serious episode with more character development than you could shake a Kryptonite stick at.

This episode rocked.

While I enjoyed it I would hardly say it rocked and it had plenty of groan worthy moments.
Then again I think we are polar opposites as I enjoy Kara episodes and you hate Kara so eh.:csad:

I would've loved to see Kara put Lana in her place when she went psycho.

But getting beyond that rather quickly... Lana throwing the picture and breaking the mirror... What? Why? They are really trying to show how "disturbed" she is, I guess. Having Lana get "darker" has really not sat well with me... It just feels so odd... and wrong.

It's in continuity with what they've shown us in the past in terms of the effect having Clark's powers has on humans. They become unstable, prone to aggression, and basically drunk on the power. They also apparently develop a leather fetish. ;)

Maybe because the JLA are doing it with the intentions of saving the world, as opposed to Lana who they've made out to be Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction who's spying on Lex b/c she has some obsession with him now after what he did to her last season. Lana's not doing this to help anyone, she's doing it for revenge.

"Anybody getting the feeling that Lois' new boss is working for the Luthors?? He's little too intense about "not going after exposes" on Lex and Lionel. I think it will be revealed later that he is on their payroll. Especially since Perry White will eventually be the guy"

It seems I wasnt the only one thinking about this

Anyone else catch how when Lois was sitting in the waiting room of the hospital talking to Clark, she stated that Lana had an "Amazonian" left hook

Minor detail. We have never seen Lana at the ISIS foundation beyond her spy room. The foundation existed for months. Can we really be sure that Lana didn't help anyone at all? We can't. Because like many important things this seasons it's another thing we can only speculate about. Hell she even had a receptionist. People were sitting waiting in the background. And I doubt those were just paid to play cover.

Also we were only discussing the spy room I think. She is not harming anyone with that. Herself maybe yes. Because Lex knew she was watching. But she wasn't putting anyone in danger other than herself. Again I would love to remind everyone that if it wasn't for Lana spying Clark would have never known what happened to Kara in the last episode. The first thing Lana did was call Clark to tell him. I thought that was 'saving' someone's life. But I guess that doesn't count. Also if it hadn't been for the spying no one would know about Scion. As much as Lex said it's no secret...no one knew about it so that makes it a secret. A dangerous one to Clark and Kara.

What Lana is doing it completely twisted, and her seeking revenge for Lex is not a 'minor detail' All we know is what we saw, so whether she's really helping people I have no idea, but she is definitely using it as a front to spy on Lex. And she most definitely held Lionel captive in a cabin in the middle of the woods by some psycho woman. Its not really appropriate to compare her actions with that of the JLA or Clark. Huge difference.

I'm not trying to bash her, I'm just saying what I see. There's nothing good about her actions lately, and I hope she eventually lets this insane revenge plot go and finds her way back.
