7.16 - Descent - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

^^^ because the scene they show in Descent trailer was originally suppsed to be in veritast pre-strike

this was suppsed to be big cliffhangers which writers talked about and now strike is over they moved that to descent and one more big cliffhanger in last episode of the season(probably clark goiung for trainning in "Arctic" episode)

since they already shot this scene that's why they aired the decent trailer soon to build the hype

yeah, it's to get good ratings. Afterall, if this is Lionel's last episode, then I'm sure the producers want the episode ratings to be through the roof.

Rush to judgement? After all that Lionel and "Jor-El" have done to Clark, I think it's terribly unfair to accuse Clark of any "rush to judgement". Both Lionel and "Jor-El" are murderers and both have hurt, tortured and betrayed Clark in many different ways. Why should he trust any of them?

Clark seems to be always at fault, whatever his choices, and there seems to be always a double standard when it comes to judging him. The boy can't win, can he?

That's an exaggeration. Of course Clark is not always at fault. Not even a fraction of the time.

But since Clark learned of Lionel's connection to Jor-El, he's had Lionel by the throat on several occasions... only to find out that Lionel, as Jor-El's vessel, DID have his best interests in mind. Of course Lionel's methods have been harsh and imperfect, but they have turned out to be protective. So why assume the worst AGAIN? Why accuse him of lies and turn your back on him as an enemy that has only been deceiving him all this time?!

Clark has understandably been rebellious of Jor-El, but he's paid for it too. Hasn't he seen in retrospect that he needs to listen to and learn from Jor-El? Raya shed a lot of light on the kind of man his father was, that pain is a part of everyones journey and that his training is important to the future of the planet. Right?

And the way he came down on Lana... I'm glad they seemed to talk it out before this...

he just found out patricia's death which he belived lionel did that

- he knew lana was in danger so he was busy looking for her because he knew Brainiac was there

- in hero he saw green kryptonite and kara's bracelet in lionel's room

- and in traveler lionel was behind for him getting tortured by kryptoniet

and all of this do u expect him to listen lionel what he had to say????????

as for Chloe i don't know why she ignored him when lionel even begged she is acting all tough for no resaon

I agree, is reasonable for Clark to not trust Lionel 100% for his actions on Hero and Traveler, Chloe the same because she's Clark's best friend, so she knows about Lionel's twisted actions.

After all that has happened in the past - i.e. Lionel has been proven to be Jor-El's vessel - I think Clark should have listened to him. Lionel had an explanation. And it wasn't Lionel that tortured him, it was that crazy 33.1 psycho, who Lionel killed before he could hurt Clark and Kara.

I don't want to come across as defending all of Lionel's actions since he "was given this gift," his methods have left a lot to be desired, for sure. (Remember when Martha asked Lionel why he didn't just TALK to Lex...and Lionel admitted sadly that he wasn't the kind of father Jonathan was) But, he shouldn't be dismissed as a lying enemy.

Rejecting Jor-El, always seems to come back to bite Clark in the arse.

Of course, the real reason he turned away from Lionel (and Jor-El yet again) was so that we could have the dreadful guilt and repercussions that are surely around the corner...

So you would say that what he did to Lana, forcing her into marrying Lex, was harsh and imperfect but protective? Then maybe Lionel shouldn't have got the cruel punishment he received.

Maybe because Clark has been naive too many times already. Maybe because he's tired of giving everyone the benefit of the doubt to end up being hurt by them. Maybe because Lionel put him in a kryptonite cage that he had built for him years ago. Maybe because Lionel lied to Clark and betrayed him, and everyone else, countless times. Maybe because Lionel only does things that benefit himself. Maybe because Lionel's behavior is dubious at best. ( And these are but just a few of the many reasons Clark has)

As for Jor-El, what kind of "loving father" manipulates a girl to trick his "son" and then kills her? What kind of "wise and loving" father burns his son, freezes him, threatens his family, punishes him for not choosing to take a life in cold blood or for saving another... all in order to destroy his son's humanity? Jor-El is not a man: it's an unknown machine/entity and a cruel and vindictive one at that. Raya's description of Jor-El has noting to do with what we, and Clark, have seen on the show. Why should Clark trust a thing that has only offered contradictory messages or silence, indifference or confusion, cruelty and pain?

Of course next week the writers will have Clark regretting that he didn’t listen, once again, when Clark had plenty of reasons not to. They love to put him in a no-win position. That’s why I said that he can’t win.

I definitely don’t agree with your take on Clark and/or Lana and on the Clark/Lana relationship, though of course I respect it.

I'd like to discuss ALL the above at length but I don't have the time or even the energy. lol. Sorry, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Exactly, some people are always bashing Clark for everything, but in this case he has more than enough reasons to doubt about Lionel's intentions, everybody does! Clark could be too self-conscious sometimes or whatever, but his behaviour here is understandable. Is funny how some bashers thought Clark was an "idiot" for trusting Lionel, I guess both extremes are very similar in the end.

I really, honestly think Lex pushing him out the window is a dream. Obviously, I could be wrong but I'd bet 100 bucks on it right now.

Promo pix don't just show uncaring Lex vs. upset Clark. Look again. Lex's face is shadowed and he's shown against a dark background; Clark's face is lighter than usual and he's against a light background. Open grave between them. Symbolism: they're polar opposites, facing each other across a great chasm, and will be this way until one dies.

Why is [presumably] Lionel being buried there instead of in a fancy plot in the "family" cemetery? Lex's personal twist on things, a last revenge against his dad. This is most likely the ORIGINAL "family" plot - from when they lived in the ghetto, before Lionel went evil and got rich. I can see Lex calmly defending his choice: "He's exactly where he deserves to be."
