88th Annual Academy Awards

sounds like your a huge Pixar fan as I am, does it bother you the academy looks at them as simply animated kids films and shouldn't be best pictures potentially? Same as how Andy Serkis never gets nominated because its seen as computers helping his performance? The academy is out of touch with the times bottom line.
According to who? You say it like it is a known fact supported by everyone. Do I have problems with the Academy? Yep. I stopped watching for a few years because of it. But it isn't about being out of touch. I'd lose respect if they randomly nominated something like the Avengers just because it would make them look "in touch".

They have nominated animated films. It is rare, but it has been done. Would I like them to do it more often? Yes. But like with foreign films, they have made a category to honor them. That in itself is a great honor. Someone walks away with an Oscar every year.

I love Andy Serkis. His lack of nominations, I agree with it. Too much of a question where his performance ends and the animators begin.

I definitely agree with the sentiment that the Academy is out of touch but it's certainly not because they don't nominate blockbusters like The Avengers. They just don't acknowledge a diverse group of movies and actors.

It's the same boring, repetitive, Oscar-baity stuff every year.

Except Mad Max and The Martian which is rare. I'll give them credit on those two. Otherwise, I agree. To be fair lower concept fare like Spotlight is getting all the acclaim it deserves so sometimes the quality of the film and the academy agree. It's a mixed bag where somehow the bad has overshadowed the good and for good reason.

Birdman won last year. Does that qualify as boring, repetitive, Oscar-bait?

Birdman definitely wasn't a traditional Oscar winner but stuff like that rarely gets nominated, let alone win's.

I'm talking about stuff like Brooklyn, Boyhood, Bridge of Spies, any Wes Anderson or Coen Brothers film, Imitation Game, Theory of Everything and many other - stuff like that. It's literally all the same faces, same vanilla story arcs, nothing out of the box.

It's annoying when there's so much creativity out there.

Pretty wrong there. Wes Anderson films are not Oscar bait. Not by a long shot.

How often do you think Wes Anderson gets nominated and since when has Wes Anderson been Oscar baity? Same for the Coens. Who do you think directed or wrote The Imitation Game? Brooklyn?

This is a generalization that ignores the quality of the films. Just because something fits what the Oscars look for, doesn't suddenly make them less quality films.

The Coens and Spielberg are some of the greatest living filmmakers. Of course they get nominated. They should for the quality of their work. But just consider the Coens as directors. How often do you think they have been nominated?

Did somebody seriously call Wes Anderson and the Coen Brothers uncreative Oscar Bait?!?

Coens never make traditionally Oscar bait flicks. The Coens are always doing something out of the box and exciting with their stuff.

It is why a lot of their most beloved films have been completely ignored by the Academy. Same for Wes. I don't understand that argument at all. It is like people are upset at the Academy, but don't seem to understand why.

Wes Anderson and the Coen brothers don't make anything traditional. Their movies are always offbeat and quirky and hardly what most people would describe as "Oscar bait".

That just makes you sound like you're tossing phrases around you don't understand, and commenting about directors you don't know anything about.

The super traditional Coen Brothers:

If anything, Anderson's even weirder than the Coens.
The Coens have always been quirky, but Wes is like from a different planet. It is like he takes the comedies from the golden age, and makes them with a huge dose of strange.

Meh - they're stories just don't particularly appeal to me (other than Fargo and No Country for Old Men which I love) because those stories, characters and faces are just so - been there, done that, seen it.

I can't put my finger on it but it seems so - eh.

Coen brothers are hit and miss mostly, hail ceasar could be good.

Never liked any of wes andersons movies especially the creepy kiddie porn implications of moonrise kingdom.

What in the world is been there, done that by the Coens or Wes Anderson. The reason you can't put your finger on it is because it isn't reality. Not in the world where Raising Arizona and the Dude exist.

Your putting in extra troll time today arent ya? Youre alittle too defensive of the oscars as well.
I am not a fan of people who talk out of their behind. I complain about the Oscars plenty, but for actual reasons. I don't make stuff up just to complain about. You and Super T on the other hand seem like pros at that.

Only on the internet could you have an opinion and blasted for it......
