88th Annual Academy Awards

The idea that TFA should be nominated for anything other than technical awards, and probably score, is absurd.

So which is it then that you're upset with?

Look, the core of your argument in this thread was a movie broke box office records and should therefore be a shoe in for a Best Picture nod. The Academy looks for different things than populist appeal when it comes award time. Yes, their diversity problem needs addressed, but fanboy zeal over an apparent Star Wars snub is not a legitimate issue with this years Oscars. Was TFA a decent flick? Yes. Was it one of the best movies of the year? The Academy and many, many others say no.

Take your pick, its a multitude of things I hate that the Oscars do its not just one thing or issue. I find myself connecting more with the golden globes anyway and no its not just cause Gervais roast all the celebrities.

More absurd then calling the Coens and Wes Anderson Oscar bait? :sly:

I don't know you seemed pretty confident there lol but don't worry I wont rag on ya too much.

Well that was a while back my memory is a bit jogged on those nominees and who won, I forgot about Hurt Locker. But I was wrong and made a mistake. And I at least admitted it. Which you haven't been able to seem to do yet.

I said a great well made movie like star wars that made a trillion dollars should get nominated if crap like avatar did as a comparison.
That's not how it goes. A movie contends with its yearly peers only. They never compete with movies that came out six years ago.

You can't use Avatar to explain TFA's lack of a recognition in a different year. Avatar competed with 2009 movies and won out the nom. TFA competed with 2015 movies and didn't.

The academy has bigger fish to fry now then star wars anyway by cutting out all black actors and movies but having a blackman host.
The dastardly academy. First they oppress the helpless Star Wars franchise. Now they are going after minorities! They must be stopped.

Pretty much summed up my feelings on it. Michael B Jordan was good in Creed, but his performance wasn't as powerful or transcendent as so many others this year. I do think that Coogler should have gotten a Best Director nod though. He took a movie and story that could have been pretty lame and made a fantastic movie out of it.

Perhaps. I'll give him credit for the seamlessly looking one takes during the fights.

Because they haven't awarded them anything yet. A nom is a acknowledgement there good enough to be there.
Oh, you are moving the goalpost now. God you are transparent. All the troll tricks in the book. :funny:

Alittle fight in ya, I like that

Sorry, but if Adam McKay got nominated for The Big Short, I don't see why it's out of the realm of possibility that Coogler should get a nomination for Creed.

I'd nominate JJ for Star Wars before Coogler for Creed.

Im not the one who didn't nominate any black folk

Just....what? Lmao.
I totally would. It is not Seven Samurai, but I certainly found it to be a similar type of film with great craftsmanship and work with the actors. I am a Rocky fan and really enjoyed Creed. Very well directed. But in a battle of two classic franchise flicks, I will take the one with the director who pulled off the lightsaber battle in the snowy forest. I found Star Wars to just be more visually stunning and well paced.

you said yourself those movies were awarded but they haven't won anything yet. they don't hand out awards for noms. if that was the case leo would have a mansion full of noms.

Now you are comparing JJ to Kurosawa? Double lmao.
I specifically said I wasn't. It is in the same vein, same kind of film, but it isn't to that level. But if you could explain why you find it isn't a contest between JJ and Coolger for TFA and Creed, by all means do so.

When did I say that?

I liked the single take boxing scenes better than anything in TFA.

When did I say that?

you pasted that above asking me why didn't I answer it, you then wanted an answer as well the other guy hence you asked the question again.

good lord man the troll force is definitely strong with this one.

I think I'll be the grown up here and just end this because I'm going to then privately IM you and say some real things and get banned and I like here so well just end this circle jerk now of differing opinions whether you think there bogus or vice versa.

More then fair. As a big boxing fan, I don't really dig boxing scenes in films. Can't think of one which really captured what a fight looks or feels like. Why I a bit more of a fan of something like Raging Bull, when it comes to how they interpret fight scenes.
