9.03 - Rabid - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Would anyone else be happy if we heard these two things in this series:

I really like the first one. Idc what movie its from or not Its just a good quote from Jor-El , the second one I hate because Clark doesnt and I hope to god NEVER has a kid on Smallville lol

I was very skeptical about this whole resident evil style episode from the moment I first heard the word 'Zombie'

But after hearing that its actually Zod who has unleashed some sort of virus that causes it, I'm already thinking it won't be another sort of vampire episode..

Have to say after watching the trailer & that clip I am quite excited to see this one.. I think it looks amusingly good

Time will tell...

cool clip, cant wait to see how this episode plays out. Sure the early spoilers of zombies everyone is like oh great.

The second quote was just meant to be something from Jor-El to Clark in Superman II not SR. Originally, Jor-El gives Clark that speech after sacrificing his memory for Clark power. Clark finally sees just how much his father loves him as he not only sacrificed himself once, but TWICE for him. Maybe Clark loses his powers after completing his training because he has the choice to go back and Zod makes him lose his powers in exchange for the life of someone (Lois?) being spared. Then when Zod screws him over big time, we get a scene similar to this:

From the second half of this scene, (like from when Jor-El explains the chamber)

And then the scene they feature in here:

I didn't mean for it to be a copy but more of a nod to the films and Marlon Brando. We've had Christopher Reeve on the show and Williams even reused some of his music in Season 2. So why not this?

Because it's become played out at this point. Smallville's done nods to each and every version of Superman that came before it, most of all to the Donner/Reeve movies. They've had Reeve, Kidder, and Mark McClure do guest spots. Terrence Stamp is the voice of Jor-El. The barn and FOS sets are created to look just like they did in those movies. "Kneel before Zod" has been used countless times now, etc.. How much more do they really need to do at this point?

And John Williams never did the music for an episode of Smallville. That was Mark Snow, and he inserted about 3 bars of William's Krypton theme into the Rosetta episode. And caught hell from the WB Features people for it.

Well, he used more than just three bars...

He recreated a portion of the "Fortress of Solitude" cue for when Clark first gets to the Planetarium in NYC. He riffed on this material through the scene with Chris Reeve, doing at least one fairly straight-forward statement of the main Superman fanfare. The end scene in the storm cellar featured that darker spin on the fanfare, as Clark and Jonathon hugged it out, and ended with a statement of the Krypton theme.

Shame Snow caught so much flack for that. His use of the Williams material always made such memorable moments for me.

Great another team-up episode. The Blur teams up with a new hero to fight the zombies...

:)

Didn't John Ottman use the same theme for his score of SR? Or is it okay in that case because it was for the movie?

Resident Eville

Next there will be musical episode like in Buffy. Clark singing "Heal The World". Then finished with the entire cast singing "We Are The World".

R.I.P. Michael.

Holy ****, that actually looks good.... damn

I was fully expecting this to be a filler episode, now we will see....

Definitely seems like a borderline TV-MA episode. Would love for it to be the first 18 rated season in the UK!

Holy **** they look awesome! :wow:
