91st Annual Academy Awards

WW and Logan snubs were awful .WW in particular since they are looking at the circumstances outside of the movie. But they never gave a damn about women.

Black Panther I think is a fine movie and I don't begrudge it's nomination. Just because The Dark Knight got screwed doesn't mean any BP nominated films has to be TDK. That's looking at it wrong because TDK was not released in 2018. TDK is also why they're more than 5 nominees now. Under this format, it would have got in.
Pretty much. Gary Sinis, the president of Academy back then confirm that TDK and Wall-E were the reason they expand the BP category.

AGAIN - it's not about the quality with these people. Snubbing WW sent a very clear message as did the fact no one stood up during MeToo thing.

If Black Panther is BP-worthy, then so were The Dark Knight and The Winter Soldier.

Logan, Wonder Woman, Deadpool, hell I’d probably throw in Guardians too for how different it is. I don’t think most would have an issue with Black Panther getting nominated if there was even one of those films nominated previously. But something that should be celebrated in the superhero community just reeks of politics, but as perfectly fine as BP is, it’s not even close to Marvel’s best movie, and is leagues behind TDK.

I don't think WW was BP quality, but I do think Logan was. At least it got a Screenplay nomination, though.

BP is not competing with the aforementioned movies for Best Picture. It is competing with films released in 2018. All these other movies you're mentioning are not films Black Panther was competing against.

WW? lol what? it wasnt snubbed... it just wasnt that good.

oh god ... just turned it into METOO ......again. ffs

this place, i swear

You're saying that Black Panther is not a worth BP nominee because of other films in the past that didn't get a nomination. So you're comparing it against past films, and thus making it a competition between Black Panther and the films of the past, but a film made in 2008 or 2014 is not relevant to a discussion about the best films of 2018. Black Panther is getting a nomination for Best Picture of 2018, so what happened in 2008 doesn't matter. That's the point.

Roma overperformed heavily, just like Phantom Thread last year. IT's the clear frontrunner but snicked into Best Actress, both Lead and Supporting is just incredible

Emily Blunt continue to be snub :funny:

Black Panther's nomination is a token one, whether or not you agree it deserves to be there. Unfortunately it has no chance of winnning because it's going to Oscar bait like A Star Is Born or one of the others like Green Book or Roma. Maybe BlacKkKlansman.

It's going to be a boring awards ceremony if Roma wins everything.

The Shape of Water represent everything opposite to an Oscar-bait and still won last year.

Right now, I want to say Green Book is going to win, but I don't think that is a lock, nor is Green Book the movie I would pick of the 6 movies I saw. I would right now go with The Favourite as what I think should win, but I still have to see Roma and Blackkklansman.

Black Panther getting a nomination for best picture, haha, good god.

It's a really solid comic book flick, top-tier MCU, but let's not get carried away here. TDK & Logan were infinitely more deserving (and I'm more than cool with each of those not getting one either, but if a comic flick's going to...), as actual "film" films. Love the MCU and all, but let's be honest, there's a formula & house-style at play here, Panther didn't exactly color outside those lines.

Cool seeing Roma & Black Klansman there though. Doubt Bohemian Rhapsody has much of a chance (and probably shouldn't), but it's interesting that got up there.

My point being, and I thought this was implied but apparently not, that the reason for overlooking other superhero films of equal or greater quality make BP nomination completely hollow because it’s clearly being held to a different standard from the other films.
