Considering that Oldman has no shot at winning and has plenty of previous nominations and a win, I don't hold it against anyone for thinking he didn't need the nomination. I think he's fine, albeit too old, but nobody thinks it's his best performance.
I kind of think Mank is likely to be this year's American Hustle or The Irishman. Up for a ton, but likely to go home with very little or none.
Once again - I know how the system works but it makes it no less irksome when time and again great films get snubbed despite their being multiple open slots in the BP bracket. This is a great year for diversity at the Oscars, but it hurts to see "Ma Rainey," "5 Bloods," and "One Night in Miami" all left out from the biggest prize.Oscar Nominations 2021 Announced (Updating Live) – Deadline

I mean... I think that's largely where the hate comes from. Oldman and Fincher had spots locked in for them from Day One just because of the type of movie they made, even though by most accounts (I still haven't seen it, so I can't judge) it's far from their best work. So Delroy Lindo and Regina King miss out because Hollywood can't help showering noms on a movie about Hollywood.Exactly. It doesn’t matter whether he deserves it or not. He’s had that spot locked a long time ago.Bale always get the same hate too even when he hits all the precursors and is securely in the top 3 more or less.
It’s Boseman’s to loseI'm thinking Boseman and Kaluuya are frontrunners for the Actor categories.

To be fair, best performances of the year =/= best performances of those actors' careers.Once again - I know how the system works but it makes it no less irksome when time and again great films get snubbed despite their being multiple open slots in the BP bracket. Lakeith getting a nom is a pleasent shock. And he'd been campaigned for Lead, too, so this was definitely a move on the Academy's end. Not sure why - I don't he would have been a major threat to Boseman winning. But he absolutely deserves it. First of many more to come, hopefully.

The Father is the only Best Pic nominee I haven't seen yet. I don't really want to pay $20 to watch it but I doubt this is hitting DVD before the Oscar ceremony. My local theater got rid of it so quickly.
