93rd Annual Academy Awards

If Leslie Odom Jr, wins, he would be 3/4th's of the way from winning EGOT.

My Octopus Teacher - a remake of Spider-Man 2?

I don't think Odom has ever been nominated for an Emmy, correct me if I am wrong about that

Considering that Oldman has no shot at winning and has plenty of previous nominations and a win, I don't hold it against anyone for thinking he didn't need the nomination. I think he's fine, albeit too old, but nobody thinks it's his best performance.

I kind of think Mank is likely to be this year's American Hustle or The Irishman. Up for a ton, but likely to go home with very little or none.

Oldman has one previous nomination and one win.

Once again - I know how the system works but it makes it no less irksome when time and again great films get snubbed despite their being multiple open slots in the BP bracket. This is a great year for diversity at the Oscars, but it hurts to see "Ma Rainey," "5 Bloods," and "One Night in Miami" all left out from the biggest prize.

Lakeith getting a nom is a pleasent shock. And he'd been campaigned for Lead, too, so this was definitely a move on the Academy's end. Not sure why - I don't he would have been a major threat to Boseman winning. But he absolutely deserves it. First of many more to come, hopefully.
Exactly. It doesn’t matter whether he deserves it or not. He’s had that spot locked a long time ago. :funny: Bale always get the same hate too even when he hits all the precursors and is securely in the top 3 more or less.
I mean... I think that's largely where the hate comes from. Oldman and Fincher had spots locked in for them from Day One just because of the type of movie they made, even though by most accounts (I still haven't seen it, so I can't judge) it's far from their best work. So Delroy Lindo and Regina King miss out because Hollywood can't help showering noms on a movie about Hollywood.

Pleasantly surprised with the visual effects nom for Love and Monsters.

I thaught so as well with Ma Rainey in my Top5 of the year but on the other hand I am happy the theater plays dont get into best picture. Da 5 Blood has other issues besides the awesome but overlooked acting of Lando.

To be fair, best performances of the year =/= best performances of those actors' careers.

Having said that, I think Mank is in Oldman's top 5. Top 10 at the very least. It's a beautifully layered and lived-in performance and delightfully charismatic. The film around it is just so sterile.

You know, with Kate Winslet in 08, it made sense she got moved to supporting but I still cannot for the life of me understand how LaKeith ended up there. I'm happy for him because he's awesome, but he was the lead in that.

Despite a few snubs like Delroy, it's mostly a decent section of picks. Really happy for Riz and Steven Yeun even though it hurts so much to know they got zero shot at winning.

It's yet another reason why I prefer the Indie spirit awards over the Oscars.

Finished watching all the best film noms today. Nomadland and The Father were tops for me, and if it weren't for Boseman being a lock I'd say Hopkins takes it.

Mank was at the bottom for me.

The Father is the only Best Pic nominee I haven't seen yet. I don't really want to pay $20 to watch it but I doubt this is hitting DVD before the Oscar ceremony. My local theater got rid of it so quickly.

My local cinema (when it was open before the pandemic) usually played films for only about a week or two before moving them out for a new film to take its place. If you didn't see something in that time period you had to wait until if was on BR/DVD.
