93rd Annual Academy Awards

Oscars: Academy Adds European Venues, Will Work to Cover Quarantine-Impacted Travel Costs

Oscars: Academy To Create European Hubs For Nominees Unable To Travel To U.S. – Deadline

The Father is the only Best Pic nominee I haven't seen yet. I don't really want to pay $20 to watch it but I doubt this is hitting DVD before the Oscar ceremony. My local theater got rid of it so quickly.

As for the film, it's pretty good in a stage play/Hitchcock kind of way. But it's definitely not worth the $20. It's a movie filled with rooms.

Finally watched The Father.

Anthony Hopkins should be sweeping everything. No disrespect to Chadwick Boseman, but there is no contest. This is one of the most devastating films I've seen in a long time, and Hopkins' performance is simply staggering. The last thirty minutes put a pit in my stomach. Wow.

I just watched that too, and mother of God.

Devastating is right, and it might be the best performance I've ever seen from Hopkins, which is saying something.

For most of the last decade of her life,
my mother had her own personal struggles with dementia.
I wish Hopkins nothing but the best.
However, I can never watch The Father.
It hits far too close to home.

That’s understandable. It’s rough as hell even for someone without that personal connection.

I struggle with dementia movies to begin with. I hated Amour, which is why I haven't rushed out to see The Father yet.

Disgusting that Val Killer didn't get an Oscar nom for Doc Holiday. Especially in a supporting category.

Great to see Youn Yuh-jung win.:up:
I've been rooting for Maria all season but Youn is my runner up and I'm very happy for her.

The Best Actress race (and the supporting really) is wild this year. Viola winning was such a surprise. We're going to have a different woman winning each big precursor heading into the Oscars this year.

Don't know if anyone has watched Bill Maher's latest Oscars rant (don't watch it if you haven't seen all the nominees, he's casually spoiling all the endings) but it's just... I expect the man to be wrong about everything, and yet still - WOW. It's so insultingly obvious that he hasn't even watched them, he just googled the synopsis and then went on a rant about how artists weren't doing enough to make him laugh.

There was more holes in his argument than the freakin Titanic.
