Mildly embarrassed to admit this but I never saw The Goonies or any of the Indiana Jones films outside of the first one
Perhaps this is the year I start plugging some of the holes on my pop culture radar...
I just read up on Ke Huy Quan and I wish him all the best in his Oscar journey. Talk about patience, persistence, and perseverance paying off:
"Following roles in the sitcom Head of the Class (1991) and film Encino Man (1992), he stopped acting due to lack of opportunities, and obtained a film degree from the USC School of Cinematic Arts."

What’s even more heartbreaking, is that even after he filmed EEAAO, he kept auditioning over Covid and didn’t get a single callback. He then asked the producer of EEAAO if he was even any good in the movie, and the producer told him everything will change once it was released.
Let me tell you, we finished shooting Everything… at the beginning of 2020 and then the pandemic happened. During that entire time of the pandemic, I was auditioning again and again because there were more roles for Asians and I got nothing. I didn’t land any role, not even a call back. I was about to lose my health insurance towards the end of 2021 and I called my agent desperate for anything from series regular all the way down to a guest star spot and still nothing. When 2021 passed and I lost my health insurance, I even made a joke, saying, “Hey, nobody wants to hire me except Spielberg, George Lucas, Wong Kar-wai and the Daniels.”
I was so miserable and I felt so nervous because this was all happening again, like in my younger days. I called our producer for Everything…, Jonathan Wong, And I said, “I can’t get any job, nobody wants me. Please tell me how is the movie? Am I even good in it? [Voice shakes] His response was very sweet, he said, “Ke, just be patient. Just wait until the movie comes out.” And yeah, he was right. When the movie came out, everything changed. That’s why to this day when I walk on a movie set, knowing how difficult it is to get to have this opportunity, I’m always grateful. I didn’t think I would have this amazing second act as an actor in my early 50s, and I hope my story inspires someone to not give up on their dreams.

Fun fact I just looked up: The last time the top two highest grossing movies at the box office were both nominated for Best Picture was 40 years ago in 1982 (E.T. and Tootsie).
I always loved Short Round/Data and had a major crush on Robin Givens when I was a teen lol so I remember trying to find clips of that show back in the day.
