Not exactly true, there was some controversy about Cillian Murphy, people said he was too handsome for Crane, Katie Holmes was somewhat controversial from the start and some initially thought that Oldman should have played a villain.

Thats why he was perfectly cast as Sirius

Too bad his character is taken down in his prime :(

Even worse that Harry felt worse about Cedric dying than his Godfather - good job JKR

Agreed on the first two....but the reaction on Oldman that you described wasn't that vocal. I'd say most were surprised in a "whoa! we got Gary f**kin' Oldman!" type of way. We all mentioned how this would be his first good-guy role, but it was the general consensus we were excited because of his great range as an actor.

Jeez he's not that bad.:woot: I personally think he's capable of pulling it off. He's not really played anything like Two Face yes but Ledger hasn't really played anything like the Joker either.

Also, he's not such a big star so it would be a big break for him a bit like Bale.

We shall see,i'm not anti him i'm just not excited about him as Dent either:cwink:

My favorite role for Eckhart so far was him in Posession. Great movie, awesome character. :)
Possession was a crappy movie, but gold compared to the Wicker Man. Neil La Bute underwent a lobotomy probably after the first movie.

Hes a decent choice for Dent if he gets it. That guy can be really evil.
Saw him in Company of Men and hes cruel as hell.

Eckhart looks like a chiseled comic book character come to life...he feels right for the part of Dent. Big time. I have a sneaking suspicion Eckhart will be Gotham's new District Attorney. He's a great actor and he's not a demanding pain in as- like the other guys up for the role. Once again Nolan reaches out to an but left field choice no one saw coming like I predicted he would. He did the same with Heath as Joker. No on saw that coming. No one.

I like Gyllanhall the actress but not for Rachel Dawes. Blunt is better.

Eckart! Think about the future!!! As in a two picture deal in one the biggest franchises ever!!!

I don't dislike him but I'd perfer somebody else, he would just be a...very boring choice to me.

Why Damon passed up this is beyond me.... Bale, Ledger, Damon??? That would've been Departedesque... We can only imagine...

I wouldn't dwell on it. Maybe he just doesn't care for these sorts of films or maybe he wanted to do something that he thought was better?

I just really thought they were gonna bring some pizazz to this role... Aaron just doesn't do it for me... I was actually expecting that slam dunk all or nothing casting... but like someone said... it was probably the best they could do...

I think it is slam-dunk casting. He fits Dent to a tee.

IDK about that. Eckhart is a hell of an actor and just hasn't been given his due yet.

People still play too much on beauty these days in Hollywood.

Example:

Johnny Depp - People say he's an amazing actor, he's a "chameleon". He's such a great artist, he really gets into his roles.

BUT! I know when he's in a movie. All I see is "Johhny Depp as _______"

Now Oldman (who is my favorite actor) is A HELL OF A DAMN GOOD CHAMELEON. It took me like a year to realize he was the deformed guy in Hannibal. And he switches up his voice tone, his appearence, his accent. Dude is THE man. Playing everything from villains to hero's to side characters, to character who go from bad to good. etc etc

But because he's not a pretty boy and doesn't do a Keith Richards impression...mainstream people don't notice him that much.

I think Eckhart is alot alike, not so much in terms of the chameleon style, but the range of characters that he can believably portray.

Not every actor in this cast needs to be an Oscar winner. They tried to get Chris Cooper as Gordon but he turned them down flat.I'd rather have someone who's heart is in it.

Ah man, jokes...

He's a great choice. He's got the charm, I hope he gets the intensity. I loved THANK YOU FOR SMOKING, great film.

Does anyone else think he (Eckhart) look like Thomas Jane?

Guess we disagree... Craig wasn't Bond either...
Oh, of course not.

The man may have brought some integrity to the franchise, won rave reviews for his performance, and led CASINO ROYALE to a $570 million gross (and it's still raking in money), but other than that, nobody was buying him as James Bond. Well, aside from Pierce Brosnan, that is, who named him the "best Bond ever" just a little while ago.

:cwink:

I'm sorry but this whole post reads "I'm a stupid" to me... Sorry...

Eckhart is an inspirational choice - I hope he gets it.

Eckhart? Saints be praised, i hadn't even thought of him. Now I want to see no one else but him in the role of Dent.

Yeah, that was kind of the consensus, but there were a few people who were reluctant on seeing him play a good guy, cuz it´s a fact for a while Oldman was one of the main go-to-guys to play villains in Hollywood. He and Alan Rickman were the best on being the worst...
