Abuse of Power Thread (Cops, Governments, Etc.) - Part 2

I don't watch Law & Order but I used to watch Chicago PD. The main character is a dirty cop who has literally gotten away with murder. In other words it's pretty much a documentary.

And somebody out there right now is doing everything in the mind to NOT hold LEO for their actions after reading all that information.

The marches will continue because it seems we can't stop running out of examples where the cops are out of control, up to and including literally getting away with murder.


If you are one of those people reading this right now... Why? What will it take?

Forget politics or race... This is a simple question of good policing and good governance. It is, again, literally a question of LAW and ORDER.


And especially if you are a small government libertarian conservative type the last ****ing thing you should be doing is justifying government abuse and overreach, especially when it results in real death and oppression of citizens.


But some of you don't want to extend that, viewing the victims of police malfeasance or incompetence as fellow citizens with, whether they are angels or not, the same rights as you.

Allowing police to violate others' rights with impunity just means they will have less reasons to respect YOUR rights.


This isn't as hard as some of you reading want it to be for... Reasons.

There are people who are loudly applauding Candice Owen for what she said about George Floyd, even though his murder is on video right in front of their eyes! They some how still blame his past for him being murdered. It's like some people are just blind to what is going on.

WTF! The white guys are teasing the cops, push the black guy in front of the cops but yet the black guy gets arrested and chocked out but yet there is no police problem?!

"a community-based, unarmed emergency responders for non-violent calls for service" does not sound like a bad idea to me. There will still be police for violent crimes or incidents but they will not be called for someone having a mental breakdown or someone looking "sketchy" (ie; black guy in white neighborhood).

This is indeed how things should be handled. That being said, we need to think very carefully about this. Situations can change dramatically in a very short period of time and we need to have people who are trained to handle particular situations as they arise. With the proper motivation, I'm sure it can be done, but I can see some very tricky situations arising and grey areas.
