Actors You Just Can't Stand.

Leonardo Dicaprio

Brad Pitt

Sean Penn

Nicole Kidman

Leo technically gives decent performances but he has no spontaneity. If he ever had real charm he lost it by overstudying for his acting tests.

I dislike Penn for simular reasons...and he's a huge overactor.

Pitt is a boring lifeless good looking man who people call an "actor" for some reason. He makes up terrible mumbling accents in alot of his movies and generally just stares off into space. He is only really decent when acting crazy in a movie. I for the life of me don't understand the praise he gets.

She is also too studied. And her American accent is bellow par.

Another actor I don't like is Juliette Lewis. Granted she's been in a lot of movies that I actually enjoyed (Natural Born Killers and Cape Fear for example) there's just something about her that rubs me the wrong way.

Ha, ha, ha. Yeah, I've seen both. I own Babel. I loved the film. I think Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchette were hired solely to help at the box office though, and their performances have nothing to do with my enjoyment of the film. Any no-name actor could have turned in those performances. They didn't hurt the film, but they didn't make the film any better.

And as far as someone being "UNIVERSALLY praised"--not true. Because you won't hear any praise from me.

What's with your speaking in definitive terms and making uninformed assumptions? I don't have "a clue about acting", I've never seen this movie or that movie. I don't want this to turn into some personal feud, but you're rubbing me the wrong way. All I did was list three actors I don't like. I didn't bash them or make fun of them or poke fun at their fans. But I'm starting to get a little irritated. I never thought I'd see the day when I had defend my position that Nic Cage and Brad Pitt weren't good actors...
I like how you assume that your position is in some way popular or greatly shared.

How can people not like Blood Diamond?!? Great film. And great performance by Leo. *shakes head in disgust*

Or what about The Departed? Yea he's just a pretty boy, can't act at all...

I haven't sen Blood Diamond (though I want to) I read that Leo nailed the accent which is known to be very difficult to pull off.

Hell, his performance in The Departed won my mom over and she isn't really a fan of him.

When you compare prettiness to Leo or Megan Fox (in terms of acting and their career) if Leo was like Megan Fox, his career would of went down the drain. Fox is incredibly hot, but in five years, she'll be like Alba. Ocassionally appearing in the paparazzi while another hot thing comes along. Leo has been around since Step By Step and his career is only getting better.

Well if he ever gets a role in a movie that I've just gotta see dispite him being in it I'll give him another chance. Movies like Gilbert Grape and Titanic aren't really my cup of tea, with or without Leo. While Blood Diamond is more up my alley, the fact that it stars Leo has kept me away. Now if he were cast as a wood elf in The Hobbit (and let's face it, he's got the perfect look to play an elf) I'd definately give him another chance to prove me wrong. But the few movies I've seen him in, he stunk up the place. The ones everyone paraises him for just don't appeal to me.

For criticizing actors who are too studied, you pick some of the least studied actors working today? WTF?

Also, similar*

And if Sean Penn is what you consider an over actor, I'd hate to see what you consider understated.

Oh, I couldn't agree more. And the praise he gets is, as we all know, because he's handsome and very important in Hollywood.

But the guy can't act. In decades of acting he has merely achieved being natural. And his "crazy" roles are just him making up his own personal perception of what an insane person would behave like. Which in his case is more fireworks than anythign else.

His role in Se7en was decent but when he was asked to go beyond his skills in his last scene ([blackout]previous to shoot John Doe[/blackout]) he ruined it. It is THE only bad moment of acting in that movie. He almost ruined the climax of an otherwise impeccable film: "What's in the booox" sounding and looking exactly like a pouting child.

And his nomination for Benjamin Buttons was just the tarditional/compulsory nod to the kind of roles they cannot ignore. But his acting was bland, un-charismatic and poor.

I like Leonardo DiCaprio, I think he's very very good. And I also like Cloonet in spite of not being a Marlon Brando. But Pitt is just a pretty face that ahs become barely decent in time.

Other than him I cannot stand Jack Black. This guy for me has to be THE most unfunny comedian ever. And what's worse; he tries too hard to be funny which makes his attempts to fail even more painfully. He had his chance of having a serious more complex role in King Kong but he merely repeated his only character (himself) with the same I'm-trying-so-hard-to-be-funny couple of faces and that's it. As a comedian he fail epically and as a serious actor he's just a bad comedian.

Well, even if Gilbert Grape isn't your cup oftea, you can't deny his amazing performance. It is a very good performance. I can't see how anyone can say it sucked. I'm not saying that you think so, but in general.

But Leo as a wood elf would be strange. Maybe a little too big of an actor to be in The Hobbit.

You should still give his other films a chance. If you haven't seen The Departed because of him you're really missing out. It's one of his best roles actually and the film as a whole is excellent.

I can't stand him. He's just a pretty boy who gets roles because of his dimples. Granted I used to think the same thing about Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp. But after seeing The Devil's Own and Sleepy Hollow respectively I've come to like them. I still avoid their earlier works like the plague though. I'll only ever watch a Leonardo Decapitated movie if I'm watching it specifically to see one of his costars. Only reason why I suffered through The Man In The Iron Mask is because I love swashbuckling movies. Maybe "suffered through" is a little harsh. I quite enjoyed the performance of the four musketeers. Leo on the other hand sucked doggy d**k.
You have to look past that girls find him attractive. Many guys cant like a specific actor for that reason.

An actor I just can't stand... anymore, is Gerard Depardieu. He used to be great, a superb Cyrano for example and many other great roles, but he started doing too many movies and kind of let himself go. I hope he comes back because he really was in the same league as a De Niro or a Pacino imo (who are not really who they used to be either these days, but who just like Depardieu hopefully, will have a renaissance some day). Anyway even if they don't it doesn't take anything away from their past achievements.

Agreed. He was better in the 20 minutes he got in Babel (perhaps a bit longer than 20 minutes) than in the whole Benjamin Button fiasco.

Ashton Kutcher
Leonardo Dicaprio
Ben affleck
Megan Fox
Sylvester Stallone
Drew Barrymore
Cameron Diaz
Dakota Fanning
....

and Britney Spears. Crossroads was unforgivable!! :cmad: thank goodness her "acting" career never kicked off.

That nom for Button was a travesty. He was easily the worse thing about that movie.

George Clooney and Will Smith....

They just play themselves in every movie....I can´t believe for the life of me that they got academy awards...(well, one of the reasons why I don´t give a damn about academy awards).

And I happen to believe Brad Pitt is a fine actor.

Polux

Taye Diggs
Steven Segal
Daniel Radcliffe
Zac Efron
Robert Pattinson

Eva Mendes. Something about her just annoys me. I can't put my finger on it, lol.

Will Smith hasn't won an academy award.

Really sick of Nicolas Cage. He just keeps getting cast as action heroes and giving the same lazy performance in every one.

Not a fan of Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt either, don't see why they're the megastars they are.

I generally don't like Leonardo DiCaprio, but I make an exception for his excellent performance in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. That's the only time I felt like he became a character instead of me just seeing him as Leonardo DiCaprio.

Not a big fan of Ben Affleck. I like Matt Damon though.

Jack Black is uber obnoxious and Adam Sandler's voice alone makes me want to kill him, he's almost as annoying as Gilbert Gottfried. Don't get what's so hilarious about Owen Wilson or Ben Stiller either.

Matthew McConaughey did some good performances back when he used to do serious roles, but now he does all those romantic comedies where he's really smug and annoying. News flash, he's not anywhere near as charming or attractive as he thinks he is.

Juliette Lewis can't act her way out of a paper bag, including in Cape Fear which for some reason she got praised for.

Zac Efron is absurdly overhyped to the point where I am sick to death of even seeing his face...seriously, he's ok physically but nothing spectacular IMO and he's nothing special acting-wise...where's the hype? It's similar to with Brad Pitt except even less warranted.

Julia Roberts and Sarah Jessica Parker are ugly no matter how much people make them out to be sexy, Roberts is nothing special as an actress and Parker is annoying.

I used to not like Julia Roberts, and I still don't as an actress, but I've got to give her respect for doing this.
