Agent Carter Agent Carter General Discussion Thread - Part 1

I posted in the SHIELD thread, but i might as well post here as well:

i was watching the The Winter Soldier, and watching all the files shown by Zola.. in one frame, there is a reference to G W Bridge
He was probably in SHIELD at the time of Howard Stark's death

In the very next frame, there is a shot with people who have been assasinated (i think).. i searched the visible names and the one in the corner appears to be SHIELD agent Valeria Toomes (although it is unlikely since her father is a spiderman character)

Just caught up, haven't read the pages of comments from you guys (I guess you liked it?) so might be covering old ground here!

Loved the tone of it. They put aside that "isn't it tough being a woman" thing straight away, and went about it as Agent Carter vs the world. The plot is very interesting, can't work out what Stark is up to, but am sure it is elaborate. I'm thinking he knows about the situation, but needs Peggy to clear up the mess.

Jarvis is wonderful. The supporting cast is all great, but I love Edwin Jarvis. He's so dry and on point, and his back and forth with Peggy is a joy to behold.

My minor criticism is that the sets feel a bit low budget. Maybe it's just the way its shot, but it feels cheaper than the sheen of AoS...

One question I have though, is where is this set? It must be pre-one shot right? But I was under the impression that Peggy lost touch with Stark, and that the SSR formed out of SHIELD, but this would imply Stark ultimately forms up SHIELD on his own... Any theories?

Sort of. It's a whole thing. Read back a few pages if you like.

Do you think this show will touch upon Howard's death, in the future?

By the way, when did it happen again in the MCU timeline since 'Slattery' also played him.

I thought they laid it on pretty thick (not complaining though). I thought it was odd they never addressed any racism, which is my only criticism.

I thought most of Peggys male colleagues were very dismissive of her.
If we do see this show set in sixties one day,
It would be interesting to see how the male agents of Shield react to the advent of feminism.

It's not too late to address it (and I hope they will). The easiest way is to have Gabe Jones as a reoccurring guest character.

I'll be a dissenting voice. So far it's my least favorite of everything marvel has done. Even with the films I didn't like at least it was still characters I loved. Why am I supposed to care about these characters that aren't superheroes or even interacting with supers? Waste of time that could have been put into putting one of marvels real characters onto tv.
Change a couple names and this show has nothing to do with marvel's universe.

G'day,

In first season AOS the only supers we saw were Deathlok and Lady Sif ( and its debatable how superheroish they were) But what makes you think we won't see super heros on Agent Carter?

We already got Captain America on Agent Carter in the flashback scenes and Captain America's Radio Program.

You're definitely not alone. I found the premier episodes bland and altogether unneccessary. There are at least a hundred characters (both male and female) who are more deserving of a series. This just seems so forced and a waste of fantastic source material (Leviathan from Secret Warriors).

Though Peggy Carter doesn't have psychic control over sea life or the ability to detach and reattach her limbs, she is a major force in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A war hero, founder of SHIELD and former head of the organization, Peggy was and will be featured in CA:TFA, CA:TWS, AOS, AC, A:AOU and AM. As someone else stated, she is the HBIC of the MCU.

You care about Peggy Carter because she is a fantastic character and through her we get a fascinating look at the genesis of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We also care about her because of Haley Atwell, who has the beauty, brains, body and charisma equal to Marvel's big screen stars.

But if no superpowers means no interest, there are plenty of other options for you.

There, nothing to do with Marvel. Funny how that works.

This.

The beauty of the amount of genre media right now is how easy it is to pick and choose what floats your boat. I have no interest in AntMan or Cumberbatch's Dr. Strange (was fervently hoping for ANYONE else) but love Agent Carter and Agents of SHIELD and Avengers.

Right now, its an embarrassment of riches in what is available to people who love geekery, and I am so very happy to be living through it. No one has to love ALL of Marvel's offerings, but surely everyone can find SOMETHING to love.

Hellz yeah!! The team I grew up with, so looking forward to finally seeing them live action. Never thought I'd see the day.

Always fun to play running charades with Chris Evans on a Saturday night x
Chris is in L.A. and shaved his beard off. Coincidence? :word:

I didn't realize it's super powers that make characters interesting... in fact... Marvel as a whole has made it's mark on the comic industry by not letting the powers do the talking, but the human characteristics in each hero shine. It's what originally set Marvel apart from DC.. these arn't all "larger than life" people, or in DC's majority "gods and aliens". Marvel has always grounded there heroes with real world issues and problems. If you care more about powers and superhuman feats rather than personal drama and fleshed out humane characteristics then maybe marvel as a whole isn't your cup of tea? just sayin
