Agent Carter Agent Carter General Discussion Thread - Part 1

?!
Did you mean Ant-Man?

Based on what we saw of her health in Winter Soldier, there's no way she can have a significant role in Age of Ultron.

Nope. *SPOILER*
Word on the street is that we see a 1940s Peggy in Ultron. Probably via Scarlet Witch's reality-altering powers.

Oh yeah? Huh.
Well even if it's true it probably won't be a lengthy sequence. So don't get your hopes up for something too relevant for her to do.
No problem though, with this series focused on her, she's already getting more attention and development than most Avengers.

The scene with her and Cap in The Winter Soldier could be the final scene of the show.

Did anyone else feel that the preview to episode 3 went on a bit long? It was nearly a minute long and usually these things are only about half of that. I dunno, it's just how it struck me like that. I was like 'No stop, I don't need to know this much!'.

Yeah, when watching it I was kind of assuming it was a preview for the whole season, as they often do after premieres.

Do you guys think that it could be a nice touch to actually see a "Flash Forward" scene in the series where we get to see Peggy when she had been filmed and interviewed for that video segment that Steve saw in the Museum?

Well if it's for the whole season to go then I guess that makes a bit more sense.

If this show can in some small way improve Iron Man 2, then it'll be 8 hours of my time well spent in front of the tv.

The thing about his betrayal is that it's just a money thing. It isn't like he's an evil guy that needs a bunch of development. He's an inventor that wants to profit off of his inventions. That's simple. Give him another scene or two to remind the audience of his existence, and then BOOM...he profited off of the theft. Then, move on to the bigger fish that need to be fried.

I would love it if they pulled a Nikola Tesla/Thomas Eddison thing with Howard Stark actually benefiting from Vanko's ideas and not crediting him.

But I'd like more personality overall. He existed for exposition in that scene when he could benefit from actually being a part of the character narrative, get his own arc, etc.

I dont think it was just an episode 3 preview, but a preview for the rest of the mini weries

Dude...get out of here with your awesome ideas! As a huge Tesla fan (Modern Day Cowboy is my JAM!) I freaking hate Eddison. That would be such a great, great idea! Unfortunately, I don't think Marvel would make Howard into such a *****e. It'd be hard to make him sympathetic if we knew that he had screwed someone over, ruined their life and had them thrown in prison. HOWEVER...that revelation would change Tony in potentially interesting ways...knowing that his life and all his riches should probably belong to the man that he defeated in Iron Man 2....that'd probably mess up a guy's mind.

Side Note: There's a movie that came out last year called Frequencies. It's a cool idea...like, people have different frequencies and their status in life is determined by that. People with the lowest frequency can't be around people with the highest or reality itself starts going nuts. ANYWAY...two of the students are named Eddison and Tesla...there's a great joke in the movie about the inventors. That movie won a bunch of bonus points from me for giving me that moment.

Ok. Finally got a chance to watch the first 2 episodes and have to say I love it. This show is so much fun I am already sad it'll end in just a couple months. The action/fighting is excitin, the characters are all pretty cool, no annoying ones, and the writing is tight. Last but not least, Peggy. What more can I say but wow. I was fist pumping throughout whenever she did something kickass. She's also so damn good with all the different characters she disguises herself as. All in all this show is too much fun and I really hope it gets taken beyond 1 miniseries but still gets limited to short 10-12 episode seasons.

My wife and I both loved how she showed up to work in a RED, WHITE, and BLUE SUIT after the montage with Cap.

Just finished watching the two episodes. Actually I watched one last night and then one tonight. I'm getting an Avengers vibe from the chemistry and interplay between Carter and Jarvis. I mean the British 60s Avengers TV series with Steed and Mrs Peel. Jarvis is somewhat similar to Steed - a real upper class gentleman, and Peggy is similar to Emma Peel - another upper class lady who is skilled in fighting and does more of the action than her partner. Also their banter together and the way they address each other so formally ie Mr Jarvis and Miss Carter is reminiscent of that show.

Definitely a stronger start to the series than Agents of Shield with more compelling leads. Perhaps they should consider a longer 2nd season of more than just 7-8 episodes. I think it has the potential to be much better than AOS.

Yeah, how it would affect Tony was part of my thought process. Sort of making the argument that maybe the younger Vanko was actually right. Certainly, that alone would do more to give him character development than all of Iron Man 2.

That being said, they can tone it down. Edison was a complete *****e. They don't have to make Howard a full on Edison. But just lean it in that direction. Obviously, Howard is a brilliant inventor who deserves credit for plenty of things on his own. But (like his son) he is a bit of a narcissist. I can see him unthinkingly take credit for something invented by one of his associates and stubbornly refuse to back down.

I'm SURE with the ratings this show's getting there will be more shows than what we have now.

Yeah...like...two innocent generations in a family absolutely destroyed by a narcissistic billionaire and his son. YES it would make Howard into kind of a bad guy. YES it would possibly alter the character of Tony Stark (that needs to be altered anyway for Civil War). But the potential plus is outstanding. And...as you said...it would retroactively provide value to Iron Man 2. The next time you watch it, you're basically seeing the world through a different pair of eyes. That alone makes me wish they had the idea/guts to do it.

Seriously...fantastic fan-scripting, man.

Tara Butters was asked about these guys:

in this interview with Yahoo:

A lot of people are hoping to see Howling Commandos...

I think you'll be very happy

And from the preview we see Dum Dum Dugan. Not sure if we'll see the rest of them.

EW has this on Agent Carter last month:

Do you know when Agent Carter picks up? — Donald
It obviously takes place after Captain America: The First Avenger, but actually before Stark asks her to head up S.H.I.E.L.D. with him at the end of the Marvel One Shot. “That will essentially be the last thing that ever happens in the series,” executive producer Michele Fazekas says. “We will never have S.H.I.E.L.D. in this series. So, in some regard, the One Shot is the end of the series.”

So, in some regard, the One Shot is the end of the series.”

The question is, does she mean season one, or the entire series, provided that it get more seasons. Would be hard to draw out multiple seasons in early 1946.

I thought Hayley said that in subsequent seasons it could potentially time jump several decades into the 50s, 60s, 70s etc. She would have to be part of SHIELD by then.

Which year did it say the One Shot was set?

Season 1, I believe. As of now, I don't believe they've planned season 2 in any concrete manner. I believe what the showrunners said was that (I'm paraphrasing) they were going to put this out there and if the people like it, they'll make another season set in 1947, i.e. one year later.

So, I see the timeline as: Season 1 --> One-Shot --> Season 2... and so on.

I don't think it would make too much sense to have (say) 4 or 5 seasons of Peggy Carter doing grunt work for her SSR bosses.

Going into season 2 with Peggy Carter running a fledgling SHIELD organization would be a good way to freshen things up for the show and would also nicely portray Peggy's character evolution.
