Agent Carter Agent Carter - S01E01 "Now Is Not The End"

I guess life IS too short to try to defend the indefensible...so just ignore anyone who dares to point out BLATANT errors.

It's freaking strange that some people are so devoted to defending a show that they'll block other posters who point out that the show had a continuity error rather than accept that the error happened and that it was an issue that they screwed up on.

If people could just say "wow...yeah...Marvel blundered there" then I'd be like "yeah...but the show also had some fun moments that were cool to see"...but instead people just refuse to accept that the error was made, even though it clearly was made.

Why did he get out of dodge? He was unaware that an explosive had been ignited. It's kind of absurd to suggest that he recovered from his blindness, rightly assumed that a bomb had been ignited, and then was able to get to safety faster than Peggy Carter in a full sprint and then speeding car.

Hmmm.....why would a bad guy doing something extremely illegal with stuff that is extremely explosive want to get out and away from a building as fast as he can after being shot with a strange blinding ray in the middle of the night by someone he doesn't know but can possibly be the feds? Nope....can't think of a reason either....guess he shoulda went to the cafeteria to make a sandwich instead. Good find there Heretic.

I really liked this show. It is definitely off to a better start than Agents of SHIELD (which has since dramatically improved). It might be my second favorite comic book show on TV right now, after Gotham.

Sounds like a great excuse to sneak into the bathroom for a smoke to me. Stupid Marvel & their idiotic plot holes.

It's hilarious. If this were ANY OTHER PROJECT you'd agree with me.

A guy was blinded while at work, yes, doing something he shouldn't have been doing.
The guy then RACES to get into a car...while gunfire is going on around him...and manages to escape...fighting the blindness...just as a huge explosion that he didn't know was coming destroyed everything. He doesn't report that someone attacked him...he ignores the fact that as far as he knows there is a terrorist attack on the building and he should follow protocol...he just does what he has to do...no matter how absurdly improbable...and the audience neither deserves nor expects any explanation.

It's STUPID. It just is. You have to make the guy a superhero in order to justify his continued living.

That's why I find this whole thing so frustrating. You guys could just say "ha ha, yeah...they goofed there...kinda dumb" but you don't. The show has to be perfect and there can be no flaws...so you attack me for actually wanting an answer to how this guy survived the blast. "He survived because he survived, and I don't care about how" is giving them license to make REALLY stupid shows. Heck...did we see that guy who was on top of the ambulance die? I mean...sure...a truck load of those bombs went off...but maybe he escaped?

Nitpicking would be if I asked why the ground wasn't also sucked into the ball...since there's no reason why the ground underneath the bomb would be immune. Nitpicking would be complaining about the car not suffering bullet holes, when we're talking about a guy who probably got regular death threats and could easily invent bulletproof material. But I don't care about those issues.

blah blah blah blah plot holes blah blah nitpick blah blah montage

maybe the blindness was very temporary?? goddam, honestly, who cares

What did yall think about Hayley's American accent? I want to hear her do a sexy southern drawl.:hrt:

it was pretty solid! I give her props

I find nothing sexy about the southern accent tho, so no on that one, lol
:oldrazz:

Maybe...but Marvel didn't feel that his superheroic escape was worth telling me about...they just assumed that people would imagine their own crazy scenarios for how that guy escaped when he didn't even know that he had to escape and was temporarily blinded AND there was gunfire going on outside.

I mean...I can imagine scenarios for them. Maybe someone saw him stumbling and said "we're under attack...lots of shooting...lets get out of here...my car is parked right through this door" and helped him escape, while Carter was chasing/talking to that other guy. But I find it lazy of them to have me fill in their holes for them during their 2 hour premiere that featured at least a few scenes of pointless time filler.

You also have alot of history to play with too. I'm sure somewhere we'll see a younger Hank Pym and who knows, a younger SELVIG with him.

Speaking of younger...shouldn't Tony Stark be old as hell. How is it that Howard Stark & Peg, lets say, the same age, and we know that WS killed Howard Stark around that time....so, Tony would have had to be born in that era, making him today old as you know what....given Tony is portrayed about a decade older then Tripp...who is the "Grand-Son" of one of the Howling Commando we may see on this show; whom was about the same age of Howard, if not a few years older....for some.

Just because someone is of a certain age...it doesn't mean their kids should be of a certain age too.

Just to give you a real world reference.... I am almost 58 years old. I have an 8 year old daughter. People I graduated high school with have kids that are 38/37/36 years old. I am the same age as the people I went to school with...but our kids are no where close to being of the same generation.

It happens.

Want to bet on that?

Maybe you're right. Some people defend everything Marvel does...or everything done with a Marvel character...or every superhero from any company...etc

My brother has a policy that if he pays to see something, he WILL enjoy it. He came away from Ghost Dad saying that he liked it because he was GOING to find enjoyment if it cost him money.

It's not that I go in looking to hate stuff. I LOVED The Winter Soldier and Avengers...two of my all time favorite movies. I also loved Guardians (I just wish the villain was developed more). Heck, Agents of SHIELD is one of my favorite things that Marvel has done yet! It's just...when I see problems with something, I can't just wipe them from my mind as if they never happened. I loved Guardians...think its a total blast to watch...and it sucks that the villain wasn't given another scene or two to develop. That doesn't mean that I'm a hater or should shut up or should not watch the movie or whatever...it just means that a great movie missed the mark on one thing (in my opinion). It's weird that people aren't "allowed" to say that an enjoyable movie or show had a few flaws.

It felt to me very much like Marvel's answer to Wonder Woman (complete with secret identity). A "lowly" secretary making her way through "man's world" post WW II, and all that.
I had the same WW vibe. I've always wanted a WW2-era WW movie and now it looks like this is the closest I'll get. But I can't complain at all. I will definitely be back for more next week.

Wow...you know me so well....that's me to a T....I have defended every single thing that MARVEL has done...I have absolutely loved and defended every single thing done with a MARVEL character by any company anywhere anytime...it's like you actually can read my mind and know exactly what I think and feel......or you don't know a damn thing about what you accusing me of and are just talking out of yer ass.

Someone can like or dislike something without liking or disliking everything.....

yeah that's typical. Everyone who disagrees is a mindless Marvel drone.

Can the troll please be shown the door?

Oh, see...you apparently think that "some people" means C Lee and that I was absolutely talking about you in every word of that. Maybe you fit in the "etc" category. Maybe you just have different opinions on what is good.

But when people say that a clear continuity error is not a continuity error because they like the movie and therefore it can't have a continuity error and if we just disregard what we have been told by the company then we can disregard this error and everything is perfect...then...yeah...they are being blind. The more appropriate thing to say would be "I really enjoyed Agent Carter...but yeah, that continuity thing is a bit confusing and they should have addressed that better. Otherwise though, man what a great show!" But few are saying that. They are writing their own Marvel press releases that the One Shot has been removed from continuity but they wanted to use that footage, so it is now some random mission. Marvel hasn't said that...but they HAVE said that the One Shots are in continuity...so until they say otherwise...this is a continuity error. Is it a big deal? Maybe not...but lets not be so blind that we refuse to accept what it is.

My guess is that Marvel will just stop doing these One Shots and they will fade out of canon eventually without explanation. Most of them aren't really doing much anyway.

It doesn't count as a troll when its someone who likes everything else in the universe and even enjoyed aspects of this show.

But yeah...if you refuse to accept that a continuity error is a continuity error because of an imaginary announcement that the One Shot is no longer in continuity, then you are a mindless Marvel drone. If you accept the continuity error...can admit that it is one and hope that Marvel is tighter about that in the future...and still enjoyed other aspects of the show...then you are not a mindless Marvel drone.

I just honestly want to marry her.

I don't give a flying fig about plotholes/contrivances -- most everything I watch has plotholes and contrivances. Did I enjoy this show? ABSOFREAKINLUTELY!!

10/10 will watch again.

I have a very sneaky suspicion that "Angie" isn't on the up and up. Just going by watching the actress' past work on NIKITA! :cwink:

I liked what I saw. It was a hell of a lot better than the SHIELD pilot. I don't love it, but what I love more is the potential. I do truly love the potential. It has this pulpy nature about it and combined with the Marvel and more sci fi nature of it, using a female led character can be a terrific way to be its own unique identity.

Or, you can move on from a continuity error b/c it's only a TV show and choose to be entertained by everything else? Because I sure as hell didn't even think about it until I started reading this thread.

I mean… :STR:

(The Stormtrooper mask smiley seemed appropriate!)

Seriously, I wish AoS had started off this good. Imma watch it again here in a few.

I've never seen the waitress before but yeah she does seem a little suspicious.

I have no problem with those who accept that it is an error and move on because they enjoy the show. My issue is with those jumping through hoops to say that it is NOT a continuity error and calling me a troll for pointing out that is one.

Since you quoted him I can see he's still droning on about people pretending there is no error. No one has said there is no error. Only that it's a minor one & pointless to spend pages nerdraging over.
