We still don't know that for certain. Someone in a different forum mentioned a newspaper was dated Dec 2013 in IM3. But I'm just going to wait and see haha, I've already stated my case on why I think AoS is still post IM3 like a month or so back.

But the aftermath of Iron Man 3 has been part of the show since the pilot, which introduced Centipede and its Extremis-based human experiments. Mike Peterson was treated with a combination of Extremis, the Super Soldier serum and gamma radiation. Scorch was enhanced with Extremis before Raina and the unnamed doctor drained him of his platelets to use on other Extremis subjects. Tomorrow's episode also features Extremis [BLACKOUT]soldiers working for Centipede who break Po out of jail.[/BLACKOUT]
My only rebuttal to that to go along with my side is that we're still seeing Extemis that isn't fully stabilized hence why they needed Scorch's blood because he could stabalize it. In IM3 killian's army was not malfunctioning (without the inhaler things I think) which could be the cure that Centupede is working towards. I think tht Centipede is the AIM branch trying to get the serum correct for Killian to mass produce. But hey I don't know much haha, hopefully tomorrow can clear it up for me at least.

Jeffrey Bell: "Creatively, yes. One of the things that's interesting for us is doing a 22-episode arc; the pace of telling that story. We have to arc something out over 22 episodes versus 10 or 12. What I think people will see in episode 10 is
how things we laid out in episode 1 and episode 3 and episode 4 and episode 5 and other episodes actually all start to come together, and you see pieces come together in 10. For us, that's exciting, and I think people see, "Oh, there's been this plan," and what felt standalone is actually connected, but you can still get into it. That's been fun for us, and I think people will enjoy the episode because of some of the cards we turn over with respect to that."

The newspaper that Harley shows Tony in Tennessee is dated Dec 23 2013.
if you freeze and zoom in the date on the newspaper indicates that somehow that part of the story happened around christmas 2013....This year, right away... So the story might not have happened yet.
Part of that would hinge on Centipde being Hydra trying to get Extremis to work in their own ways, throwing in the super soldier serum etc. Having knowledge of the serum as well.
Now there could be a few reasons for this discrepancy in the timelines, but it might not have anything to do with timetravel or anything like that just yet..and more to do with Tony's mind being messed with and how Harley deceived him and now they're forever "connected" -- because the Harley part of the story/memory wasn't completely real and is part of the mind control used on Bucky... could be where the real mandarin is hiding...A techno demon form of the mandarin who invaded Tony's mind as the story was taking place, and tried to join him into a collective to form a connection with his mind. Tony's daddy issues repressed this part of the mandarin disguised as Tony's ham sandwich, as Wardell2 said. Tony's mind is too strong for this form of mind control the programs use to control Trevor and Kilian's brains,
I think we had a live feed to all 3 brains, they stole the Extremis fix out of Tony's memory of 1999, and certain parts of the timeline are being reflected imporperly in Tony's mind. When he speaks to Banner there is really something wrong with him and he's been pre-programmed by the real Mandarin and the Harley suggestions. Mandarin edited this part of Stark's mind/memories, and was working behind the scenes in many ways, Presenting us the viewer with the story Stark's mind needed to believe.
Tony was controlling the suits with his mind.
The real Mandarin was controlling the Killian and Trevor bodies with his mind...And gave us a look into each of their minds. Real Mandarin plants subconscious suggestions in his mind, Tony questions whether or or not he is going completely crazy while Harley is around.
Mandarin needed Tony to connect his mind to tech, and needed him to stop having panic attacks to get into his subconsciousness, so he coldn't do this until after the mansion attack when Tony passed out, where he implanted false memories into the story Banner would later be told...
The mind sometimes remember things the wrong way on its own, another way we all create our own demons. Tony didn't remember Killian at first, (or says he doesn't and actually does but didn't want to admit it, which is part of Tony's stubborn and hard to get into psyche). "Listen up here's a story", is what we and Banner were told to do when IM3 started... Sometimes when people tell stories they deliberately make themselves sound better, and knowingly or unknowingly tell things a certain way, remember things a certain way etc.
We weren't supposed to believe the whole story, because this could just be Stark telling a story, remembering the story, demanding the ham sandwich within his mind, part real, part fake.. Portraying things a certain way. Killian is being far more subtle than we know, they were just making good TV. He needed a reason to kill the president that would play well for tv so he came up with the oil story, but his real goal might be to have the president strung up and returned... Replaced in any way he can, not killed. Trevor led Tony to the VP before the president was taken, so a backup plan had to be used, the man who would replace him was now in the process of being caught.. Trevor said he gave Tony "nothing".
The real plan may have always been to use the VP to track the president's schedule and then to switch the president's mind before Iron Patriot took him back.. Killian wanted him replaced, but by this point knew Trevor might have spilled info on the VP. He went into the backup plan and brought the president on board into his mind control collective. The Mandarin was inside and controlling Trevor's mind, he was there and not there in more ways than one, hiding behind every scene all through the movie. A kid was there and not there the first time the story happened, but Mandarin manipulated his memory. The real Mandarin is hiding behind Harley's memory in Tony's mind, and we'll really never see what they've all got planned coming.
the Mandarin might have needed Harley's part in the story to break down some of Tony's defenses over his dad leaving, he shrugs it off but the image of the kid was created to get a desired effect and made in Tony's image in some ways. Tony had to believe this part of the memory was real. When he passed out his mind was tampered with before he arrived back in Florida, and Harley/Mandarin fixed his panic attacks for him. Jarvis was down/asleep for a bit at this time too. there is still something that bugs Tony about this story as he tells it to Banner but he can't place it. How did the Extremis soldiers know he went to Tennessee again? Why were the Extremis soldiers so on board with what Killian was doing? Why did they come after him so hard? Was something wrong with their minds ("these people are weird"), Tony wonders if Pepper was "mad" because her behavior changes slightly.. In the first ep. Simmons mentions there is an emotional component to why Extremis blows up. Maybe a subtle subconscious reason connected to Killian's rage...Killian, however, learned to vent his heat/frustration before he goes too hot and can always regulate, he didn't need the fix when Maya asked "what if you go hot?". He was the only one who vented the energy properly by breathing fire like a dragon. His cells would have the fire resistant platelets. He learned to control the flow of the heat, before he self-combusts and goes too hot. Anger plays a part in it, anger/panic, and he was angered just before venting.

True, but it didn't die with Tony Stark. Tony was the one who came up with the formula to stabilize Extremis. Which kinda supports mkilban's contention that IM3 hasn't happened yet in AOS; because, surely, Tony would've got the word out about his "cure" for Extremis' 'splosive side effects.

I have no idea what TRM is talking about lmao I just think we're going to get like a Killian name drop soon or some moment telling us that IM3 is abou to happen. I'm probably wrong but oh well haha.

And there we go... Akela's anonymous cybernetics group is indeed the same group as Project Centipede. The use of killing operatives to prevent them from getting captured makes me suspect this might also be related to HYDRA.
