Cap always had super-strength....along with speed, agilty, etc. in that the serum put him at levels that no normal human, regardless of training regimens could achieve. That being said, never thought pushing a 17 ton bulldozer with it's treads locked for a considerable distance was possible for him.

Eh, no. In the comics, Captain America has always been peak human in physical capability. This has been, repeatedly, shown and explained to be *not* superhuman, but comparable to the other best-of-the-best types in the setting, like Black Panther. Its also specifically contrasted with, say, periods where he was explicitly given super strength, and later lost it.

It was a pretty good episode. I thought it was a bit ridiculous that they only sent in 3 shield agents and one new super soldier to take down the three super soldiers. With only one pistol too. At the very least Grant and May couldve also had guns. lol

Maybe Cap is stronger in the film universe? I dont think they have ever mentioned him being "peak human", have they?

They have never shown any crazy super human feats. I think if he would've been as strong as Mike, he would have budged Loki just a little bit more.

Thats true. Although he was tossin guys pretty far in his solo movie. But i realize thats not the same thing

lol @ Simmons "measurements"

And I don't buy the incredulity regarding psychics. That sort of skepticism went completely out the window around the time Thor hit Earth, if not way before then.

Cap is at peak human "capacity", thanks to the super soldier formula, and he is the only human that is capable of that peak capacity due to Dr Erskine's serum, who because of his murder took the formula to the grave.

This peak capacity is impossible for any normal human to attain without the serum, hence Cap operates at levels above any other normal(un-serum induced)human(Black Panther, Daredevil, etc.), the key word being above. Anything that is above the norm for another thing is by definition super.

In superhero lore super-power is a sliding scale, Cap may be at the bottom of the scale, but he's on that scale non -the- less.

I always thought he was a bit above peak human. If a Bruce Wayne, who in the comics is supposed to be near the apex of human strength, is at 95%, Captain America would be at 150%. Still not near enough to do what Mike did in last night's episode, that whole exchange just seemed like pandering to me.

You're right, it's Will Smith in Hancock. :lmao:

Haha was going to mention this. I was just about to look for a gif when I saw it.

He is at peak human, due to the serum, everything "human" within him is operating at 100% capacity, all the time. The hook is that no other human can ever hope to approach anything near that mythical capacity, even those highly driven to do so like Bruce Wayne.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like it's almost lazy writing (in a way) to give Coulson and his group these high scale missions and not have anyone make a mention to the fact that SHIELD has certain individuals who are more qualified to tackle this job...aka Captain America, Black Widow, or even Hawkeye.

Now I get that these actors aren't available to cameo or show up, hence why they're not in the story, but the writers should have known that in advance and thus I wonder why they continuously create these global threats for the team when the SHIELD members that I just mentioned should be deployed for them.

I'm glad that they at least had one mention where Skye noted that Coulson should give Thor a call to help them with one of their previous cases, but when the super soldier serum is involved, it's somewhat common sense that the organization should call in their big and experienced guns for that.

I am with ya there. Every time they talk of backup, I'm expecting some sort mention of cap or widow

Overall it was just a very poorly designed scenario. 3 Shield Agents who know they have to fight 3 Super Soldiers, and all they bring with them is one measly Tranq gun, and a Super Soldier of their own, who only has minimal experience.

The Soldiers suddenly turn into Ninjas, doing spinning kicks all the time, being flashy instead of efficient. And then they run after one of their guys has been knocked down, even though all they face now is one badly injured Super, with 3 Shield Agents on the ground.

Heck, since they are not bullet proof, all you would have needed is May or Ward with an assault rifle, and that would have been the end of it. Also, the entire thing could have been avoided, if the Super Soldiers would have worn masks during the breakout. They didn't leave any prints, but showed their faces to all the cameras.

It was lazy writing, yeah. Thats the problem. Its a bit silly to see this "elite team" make such dumb decisions. Like going in with only 3 agents and one gun.

It does seem sometimes like I'm enjoying the show despite the creator's best efforts to ensure otherwise.

The soldiers emerging out of boxes to fight was just stupid.

They could've just opened fire while still inside of the boses and killed the entire shield team before they even know what hit 'em.

Instead, we get a lot of acrobatics in a thoroughly laughable fight scene. That scene was just dumb.

Yeah, I get the same feeling. I like the show a lot. But when I start to think about the particulars of various scenes, and even of entire episodes, the show doesn't seem well written, and even seems poorly conceived.

OTOH:

1. lots of eye candy, esp. skye.
2. cool association with the avengers
3. cool guest spots (fury)
4. pretty solid CGI
5. one of the few sci-fi/action series on tv.

It's a fun show with some hot girls, and a cool theme. Once you start thinking about it, though, this emporer really doesn't have any clothing.

I would love a cap cameo. If they had SLJ, i dont see why they couldnt bring in cap for an episode, or just a cameo like fury had.

I have to add, after this episode, put me with the others who now side with Skye.
