AICN Interview w/ Ioan Gruffudd ("Galactus: A No-Show?")

Hah...well it's only February. We'll know everything by May...everything.

By this time last time around, I had read 3 scripts and footage stolen by joblo.....so, THIS TIME, is very different...and the book was about to come out....remember we are 3.5 months away from the movie....so this would have been like April of 2005. The amount that had come out by April was enormous....

*sigh* No Galactus? That is a big let down for me as i was anticipating a climatic battle with FF and SS battling. I feel you can't have a SS story without the big guy.:( :down

It's strange that Ioan let such a big spoiler out.I kind of wish he didn't.

P.S: LS, the interview is from AICN not IESB.:cwink:

C: I'm just going to ask: does Galactus play a role in this film?

IG: Um...his presence is felt in the movie. He doesn't physically appear, no. Galactus does have a form, doesn't he, in the comic books?

WTF? Has Ioan even bothered to pick up an issue of FF?

I'm holding out hope that this concept will be fleshed out well enough to sustain the film--and we won't miss Galactus as a result.

Thanks to Anubis for the scan.

The idea of Surfer coming to Earth to scout for Galactus, then Doom's resurrection, followed by his ascension to godhood, and the F4 must challenge Doom's power..then yeah it could easily fill up a whole movie (especially if Doom takes full command of Latveria towards the end).

I bet the people over at "aintitcrude" are having fun with this article. :whatever:

Some qoutes on Galactus's appearance in FF2.Who's telling the truth?

Avi Arad - May, 2006...
Regarding Galactus: "They'll be some pretty big surprises. What we're trying to do is not to show him, but to show someone else, initially."

Kevin Feige - August, 2006..
"Silver Surfer is herald to a very big thing known as the World Devourer, and needless to say, the Fantastic Four may be encountering him next summer," Feige said of the flick that recently began filming.

Fox chairman Tom Rothman - September, 2006..
IESB: Yes, Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer, Weta is doing the CGI, Doug Jones doing the motion capture, we want to confirm this, you can’t have the Silver Surfer without Galactus making an appearance at one point or another in the film right?

TR: That’s true.

IESB: Avi has always referred to Galactus as a force of nature.

TR: Yeah.

IESB: Is he going to look like anything like we’ve seen him in the comic books?

TR: Yes, I think that Galactus, look, I don’t want to give away too much, right, but I will say this, Galactus will appear and fans will not be disappointed.

Screenwriter Don Payne - January, 2007...
“As far as Galactus goes, the essence will be the same,” Payne maintains, describing the entity as an amalgam of concepts combined with the original “Coming of Galactus” story from Fantastic Four #48. “We’re also using elements from Fantastic Four #57-60, where the Silver Surfer encounters Dr. Doom,” Payne says. “Then there are a couple moments that were inspired by Ultimate Extinction.”

Ioan Gruffudd - February, 2007
C: I'm just going to ask: does Galactus play a role in this film?

IG:Um...his presence is felt in the movie. He doesn't physically appear, no. Galactus does have a form, doesn't he, in the comic books?

C: Actually he has a really beautifully designed costume that Jack Kirby created. It's a fairly elaborate costume actually with all sorts of machinations. When I first heard that the Silver Surfer would be in this second film and people were being a bit evasive about whether Galactus appeared, I'd assumed that the second film would set up the coming of Galactus, and that the actual confrontation with him would occur in the third film.

IG:It's more of a finite movie than the first one. It's not open-ended in that sense. But Galactus doesn't actually appear, so it does leave room for that possibility.

That comment alone makes me think this may, may be a smoke screen. I can not believe he does not know that Galactus has a physical form.

Looks like it's becoming a "Does Cyclops Die In X3 Or Not" situation already. :whatever:

That's exactly it. I agree.

We already have enough characters...if we throw in Galactus now, he would just seem forced and crowded.

We have MORE than enough characters for fights and good interaction.

Meh, can't say I'm to happy about Galactus not appearing. He was one of the things I was really anticipating for this movie. I'm not too sure if I like the Reed-Sue-SS love triangle or Reed reveling in his fame either.

Which then suggests that these buttheads, once again don't know what the hell they're doing- meaning the FF franchise suffers again.

Are you sick?????

years of therapy have not helped my nightmares about that movie....

My thoughts as well. Really, the situation is quite bizarre.

Right now, i would love for Corman to get the 100 milloin to make an FF film. and I HATE Corman movies.

I still suspect they´re saving Galactus to be the main villain on the third one and Gruffud is being misleading... Anyway, good to hear the tone is definitely supposed to be more serious this time... Not that we weren´t telling them a sitcom was not the right approach since long before the movie got made...

Aaaaannnnnddddd, thats probably why we disagree on so much....*smiles*

I know. Surfer defying his master and fighting him alongside the FF is one of the greatest moments in comicdom, and these guys are leaving it out?

Wishful thinking. I went through this twice before with FOX on X3 and F4. When we hear this bad or questionable news and try and make excuses we are just wasting our time. This stuff always have turned out to be true more then false. I promise FOX won't get my money this time. I will more then likly see F4 2, but rest assured I'll purchase a ticket for another flick that deserves the money and credit and see F4 2.
