Alfred Pennyworth in the reboot

Malcolm McDowell and Michael Fassbender hahah the COLDEST duo ever.

I don't mind cold actors and coldness in Batman and Superman movies. People accuse Nolan's trilogy and MoS of being cold and with not humour or warmth and i like to call Nolan's movies neutral and MoS a pulp sci fi. These films film out of this world and the characters are unapproachable because they are God's among us. DC biggest problems is now its greatest advantage. Sorry for the long parenthesis.

Marvel's colours kinda bore me pretty quickly, maybe thats why i enjoyed Thor so much.

Nope, Michael Fassbender and Liam Cunningham, the COOLEST duo ever.

If Fassbender and Cunningham were partnered, it would feel like a brotherly relationship, due to them being just 14 years apart. No to that.

Saying that however. Cunningham could probably portray the Earth One Alfred. That's what I'm hoping we see anyway.

An Alfred who's not going to be moaning about Bruce having no normal life with a woman.

I wanna see an Alfred that fully supports and promotes Bruce's mission as Batman. The dude was in the army after all. Bruce is more or less fighting the same war Alfred was in his life. He should understand.

All the same, Alfred is the only family Bruce has, and the former accepted a quasi-paternal guardianship for the latter. I think Alfred feels a sense of duty to keep Bruce sane and human. Trying to maintain ordinary things in his life, like a woman's love, is part of this and, in a sense, it keeps the Batman mission going.

Absolutely, I agree with that.

I suppose what you could get out that is the two of them discussing their war - while reflecting on normal life away from the cave. As soldiers do in the trenches.

Alfred has to be the figure on who's been on the outside of war for so long, that he appreciates the things in life. Something that Bruce has no time or real concern for, but still needs reminders on from Alfred.

Meh, Harrison Ford and Sean Connery are only 12 years apart and they played father and son.

Not sure if he's been mentioned, but what about Colm Meaney? He's had some tough guy and comedic roles. For some reason, I've always seen him as the Alfred working in the cave while talking to Batman over the radio. Helping him from the computer. Telling war stories with a cigar in his mouth.

It'll depend on how they look in a few years.

At least Ford and Connery could pass as father and son :hehe:

I wish John Cleese was a few years younger...

Hugh Laurie is close enough.

Pierce Brosnan
David Bowie
Hugh Laurie

They're my faves.

If we want a really bad-ass Alfred, I nominate Ian McShane.

I really like Brosnan for the role. Wry charm and he'd bring that meta-knowledge that he (like the character) used to be a badass.

Apart from his natural funny, but serious vibe, I can't see Rickman in the role.

He just doesn't have the fatherly warmth that's required.

Nooo, Alfred can't be an ex-Glaswegian pseud.

I don't understand the love for Rickman. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy myself.

But he just can't bring the warmth Napier, Gough and Caine did in the role. It's essential.

There's more to Alfred than dryness and comic relief.
