Supergirl All About The Ratings!!!!!! - Part 1

I’m surprised, if anything I thought it would be slightly down coming off the hiatus. Guess this cliffhanger did it’s job. Would love to see them keep this up, but I’m not gonna hold my breath.

I believe out of all of the times it has gone on hiatus it was only down once.

It dropped after all 3 hiatuses last season, and of course this season's premiere was down after the summer break. I thought that was just the way it was gonna go on The CW, but apparently not.

It dropped after the first hiatus because the last episode of the Fall was the crossover. That is not a fair comparison.

Strong return for Supergirl, weak return for Flash (0.8), decent premiere for Black Lightning (retained its whole lead in for a 0.8).

Best rated premiere on CW since Legends of Tomorrow in 2016. Virtually no chance it gets cancelled with the Berlanti synergy and the Flash lead in to pad it.

So counting iZombie they're going to have to figure out where to place six DC Comics shows on the schedule next season. Assuming they don't order any more.

I'm just saying it appeared to be a trend I expected to continue, so it was nice to be wrong on that.

Also, good for Black Lightning. I think it should retain most of that audience, as it was easily the strongest Berlanti-verse premiere to date, imo. WOM seems really good, too.

Season 1 Winter Hiatus came back strong as well. If I recall from a 1.5 to 1.8 I believe .... then of course last years was the crossover, so hard to compare on that one. I think we might get a nice bump after this 9 week one as well since a good part of the mega-Monday competition will be at least different? lol

This bump was a surprise because it went up against The Bachelor as well as the 2 part finale of The Gifted....

But yeah, nice to see nonetheless....

Which is why I said it looked like a trend ON THE CW Kelly, lol. Because last season, the only CW season, every time it took any length of break (In November, March and April, and of course the summer) it came back lower. 'Til now, so yay.

I'm reading posts at about 100 mph in between screening videos for my class....things get missed. Oh well...

Tsk tsk Kelly, what would your students say? :oldrazz:

"Thank you Miss C. for screening videos so that we don't have to accidentally see nekkid women breast feeding their children on a National Geographic video?" :o

They would thank you for that? Wow, kids have changed since my grade school days, lol.

They don't need to watch Videos for that anymore Miss C. They just need to go to a fast food restaurant. :P

About the ratings. Supergirl's Half Hours were

Supergirl --> 0.567 (0.588....0.546) and 2.17 mil

So it's just squeaked out a 0.6 but the viewship is pretty impressive uptick. I'm sure some of that was due to interest in LoSH. But more I'm hoping for former fans who might have caught up on season 3 during the hiatus and decided to return.

People always say that Supergirl skews really old, but I actually think it skews really young. A lot of SG's audience are outside the demographics and I'm willing to bet that most of them are pre teens watching with parental guidance from grandma and grandpa.

And please, can we get Life Sentence on soon. I hope it debuts decently as it's a show i'm personally interested in.

Black lightening matched The Flash's demo and nearly equaled the audience. Impressive.

The Flash: 0.8/2.51
BL: 0.8/2.31

It will be interesting to see how much of the Premiere audience it retains. Personally, I loved it.

Yep, I think there's a lot of viewers both older and younger than the demo because it started on CBS branded as a "family" show.

Supergirl skews old. You can tell from the demo breakdowns. It's always higher in the 25-54 category and has a higher number (ratio-wise) in the 50+ group.

What is going to be interesting is to see BL's ratings without the lead in of Flash and on the night with the toughest competition. Monday nights after LoT....

Granted, it's only been one episode but Black Lightning is the most successful lead out from Flash so far. If it keeps up, I suspect that'll become its permanent spot.

Possibly for next season, but as of right now, it changes to Monday nights in a few weeks. And they normally don't change those kinds of plans last minute. Never say never however in TVland....:cwink:

What would be interesting to know, and we may know soon.....had Flash had its normal night of .9 -- 1.1, would BL have matched that?

Definitely interesting to watch for sure...

I looked it up and I believe it's staying in its spot for its full run. iZombie will be taking over Valor's spot.

The Supergirl/iZombie pairing will be interesting indeed. Two female-led DC Comics series back-to-back - when has that ever happened? Probably never.

When has there ever been 2 female led DC comic series on at anytime, until Supergirl came on the scene in 2015.

This is true. It probably was a big factor in having Supergirl split the timeslot with the shorter-season Legends rather than Arrow. Obviously Flash isn't moving, but Arrow is an aging show that already has a TV syndication package. It doesn't really matter where the show airs because they make a lot more money per episode on syndication/streaming than they do from live airings. But because the two shows are very similarly-rated and Arrow skews both younger and more male (which are the more desirable ad demographics for television because they have more income and watch less drama programming than older/female viewers) than Supergirl does, the latter show ends up moving.

It sounds strange to say, but Supergirl was probably hindered by being put on the larger CBS network to start with. More viewers saw it to begin with, but they alienated it from the Arrowverse at large and they picked up a large amount of elderly women as part of its established fanbase. If they had started on CW to begin with they'd likely have picked up and retained more of the Flash and Arrow fanbases and would be less isolated from the other shows it is connected to.

Well, it probably would have benefitted from starting on the CW and on the same earth. s

Rating and viewership for last night's Supergirl was 0.5 and 2.03 million viewers.
