New here on SuperheroHype. *I know this belongs in the box office thread and I posted it there; I just wanted to also post it here because I believe it's relevant. But as for box office for BVS, I think we shouldn't look at other studios' past releases. That leads to uneven comparisons and I think we should solely look at WB's history in order to maintain sanity lol. So here are realistic BVS numbers when compared to WB's past releases:

-$173M OW (1st for WB)
-$385M DOM (3rd for WB)
-$1.14B WW (2nd for WB)
-$755M only overseas (2nd for WB)
-$85M second weekend (1st for WB)

Looking at these numbers, the lowest rank is #3 for DOM (and that comes behind two Dark knight movies. One an oscar winning beast and the other a follow-up to aforementioned oscar winning beast). We as fans (and the WB, DC staff and executives) should be very pleased with these numbers. No sense in looking at Avengers numbers because Disney isn't WB. That's just how it is. Looking at those numbers above should give some clear perspective. Not to mention, box office is only a part of the equation. There's dvd/blu-ray/digital home video sales, merchandising. And these numbers would be great when leading into the beginning of Justice League production.

I also looked at RT scores for all Batman and Superman (+Green Lantern) movies in the past. With a 70% score, BVS would be ranked 8th (I included the Batman Adam West movie). Not the best, but it's a pretty good score and it does have to contend with TDK trilogy and the classic Superman movies.

Well, I hope I gave you guys some good insight and some reassuring info.

While using WB's past history has some merit, the fact that this is an unprecedented event movie is likely to have a significant effect on the numbers. As is the fact that the worldwide release is more synchronized for BvS and it appears that a lot of people suspect that the Chinese market will contribute remarkably.

Yeah, BvS is a whole new kettle of fish, I think.

From people who follow China box office, there's likely going to be a cap on this film there unless it blows people away because DC characters have never been huge draws there. Whereas a film like Furious 7 can somehow do close to 400 million in China, or Avengers can do nearly 250 million, don't expect more than 150 for this film. It will probably perform closer to how Star Wars did in China. (which also wasn't a huge draw in China as they never had the films theatrically released until now) Down the road that could change, but we'll see.

I hope it does much more, just am not expecting it.

Still worldwide with the help of China should be able to get or clear 1 billion provided the film isn't bad.

Yup, I would be happy if BvS doubles MoS's 63M in China. The DC Universe is not yet established there and this is the first foray. If this, SS and WW all get released and do well, the potential for Justice League goes through the roof.

I wanted to share this with you guys because I thought it was fantastic artwork by the great Tony Sklepic.

Batman and Superman have always been a huge draw to any country on this planet, whether they belong to DC or not.

Bvs goingdo well in china just because they think Batman is a robot/mech

lol That mech suit is awesome. How do they feel about a giant Monster

No idea why you would say that there's going to be a cap on BvS in China because their DC characters...

1) It's Batman and Superman they're both big everywhere regardless of comic book company.

2) both those characters have already been established in China thanks to both the Dark Knight trilogy and Man of Steel

3) both Batman and Superman are superheroes and thanks to Marvel superheroes are an established genre of highly profitable films in China, and most of the general audience in China or literally anywhere else in the world don't know the difference or frankly give a flying crap about whether that said superhero is with Marvel or DC, a superhero is a superhero to everyone, only we fanboys care about that nonsense of which ones better unfortunately.

So honestly saying that BvS won't do that well in because it's DC and DC isn't established in China is foolish since nobody cares about whether they're a Marvel hero or a DC hero, a superheroes a superhero.

Batman v Superman will do really great in China, a day and date release with the states on the 25th and it's strong marketing push there over the last couple days have been good for it by a lot.

$200M at the minim for BvS in China.
