Looks like definitely only one DC film in 2018 then.

I'm glad they aren't rushing. What I'm curious is, what have they've been doing?

Is this all fallout from BvS and SS?

Well we don't know, just because we aren't hearing anything doesn't mean stuff isn't happening.

Flash and Aquaman were supposed to come out in 2018. Flash lost its director. The Batman then had a tentative 2018 date, and that lost its director too. So only Aquaman remains, and that is very vfx heavy, so thats probably why the delaying on the date. And its a better date.

One of my biggest concern after BvS was the fact that WW was finishing up and JL was starting to film. Then after SS was done, JL would be finishing up and Flash was going to start going. Because of BvS's reception I was understandably worried.

And I'm not denying things aren't happening. But to go from a 2 movie a year schedule to over a year in between. It doesn't seem like things that were happening were positive, unless you count positive as preventing less quality films from being rushed out.

It is a much softer landing spot. Mary Poppins Returns and Amazing Spider-Man Animated? At least it's not going toe to toe with Star Wars.

Dude why are you talking in absolutes? Never have I said ,making the movie a bit more straightforward and focused will get rid of all problems. All I'm saying is if the plotting is more focused, and is not incoherent, thats better. Because that was an issue for BvS, and im glad to see they are learning from it.

I'm not. Nor am I putting words in your mouth. What I'm saying is that the studio should address the actual problems they're having, not the symptoms. I don't disagree that making movies with more straightforward stories stories is a step in the right direction, but they need to go even farther than that if they want a real shot at success. Case in point: SS. It had a straightforward story, but was still critically panned. It was more favorably received than DOJ, but I think everyone will agree that the studio can do better than that.

But if only one film is coming out in 2018 that shows that they aren't rushing things. I don't see what's not positive about that.

I really don't see the problem of only one film, A) Aquaman is given the concentration and time to itself to get the focus he deserves as a character and B) Batman (and everything else that follows gets made is done with care & attention), PLUS, we just go back to the 'old days' for a year of only one release, are people so impatient these days, they can't wait.

Well, it's been kind of obvious for a while that there was only going to be one movie coming out in 2018.

I'm all for not rushing but it just seems that a movie being pushed back twice when there's no other DCEU filming?

Which goes into the whole, why keep announcing new projects they are working on? It'd be over a decade if they did everything they said they were doing.

Just like I said, with SS again the issue was coherency. Bad editing. I am not just saying make the story simple. I am saying fix the narrative issues, make the story focused and tight, let that be a complex or a simple story.

Well you have to take into account WBs don't only make DC films and they also have to take into account the competition. I'm sure eventually we'll start getting two maybe even three a year.

Depends on how you look at it, really. Not rushing their projects is a good thing, but to go from releasing three or four movies in a year to only one isn't really a good look. And that one movie they have coming out just got pushed back a few months.

I remember when MOS and DOJ got delayed. Most of us assumed it was for the best. If they needed more time to get things right, more power to them. Then those films were released and a lot of people were unimpressed. So we can't even say that delays will result in a better quality product, because the results have been polarizing at best.

So...yeah. Depends on your perspective.

Yes, I understand everything you're saying. But how are they going to do that? By hiring the right people to do the right things. The problems we're referencing exist because of bad writing, directing, editing, and interference from the studio. If these movies are going to succeed, the studio needs to hire people who are capable of making good movies and then stepping back and let them make those movies. I honestly don't know how much clearer I can be.

And I dont think I am disagreeing with you that much. The original point was that if WB thought one of the issues that BvS And SS had were narrative issues, they were wrong, and I said no it was indeed a problem and they should fix it. You are now saying they exist because of bad writing/directing/editing. Ofcourse thats true, and like I said if they acknowledge that and better it, then good. Because that was INDEED an issue.

Anyway we are going around in circles here, so lets just stop.

Me being optimistic, I'm hoping it's because they want to get everything right. I don't expect WB/DC to come out and say, yeah we heard you all we want to give you something you'll love when they have 2 features coming out this year which you can say is part of the older regime.

So what if it is ?
If I can't get you to understand the frustration of a fan, looking forward to say a Green Lantern or a Nightwing? Green Lantern (Corps) was announced in 2014 for 2020, almost 6 years. Not much of a gambling man, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's longer than that.

Even when WB are taking their time, its still doom and gloom lol. The world won't end in 2018 (I hope). The DCEU is here for the long run it seems.

Well hopefully that's what it is, I think getting Matt Reeves in for Batman and at least initially speaking to a guy like Matthew Vaughn for Superman to me shows they are. For all we know 2018 could be the only year we only get one film. Sometimes things happen and with so many more big films coming out every year it's gonna get harder to get stuff out quicker.

So, okay, GL will be out in 2020, if that's what they said. Doom merchants wherever you look...

That's not at all what I said. I made a mistake by including non-linear storytelling as a part of my argument (totally my fault, I skimmed the original post before responding because I was at work), but my point has always been the same. Narrative issues are a problem, but the best way to solve it is to hire more competent filmmakers - not just shift toward less convoluted stories. It's great that JL will be less convoluted than its predecessor, but it's still a film written by Chris Terrio and directed by Zack Snyder. There might be less issues - which is a good first step - but there might still be issues that'll divide the fan base and result in a disappointing BO return. So yeah: if the lesson they learned is to keep things simple, that's fine, but it's just not going to solve all their problems.

But I don't think we really disagree here, so I agree that we should just end things here.

Will it?

They also said, Flash in 2018, JL2 and Shazam in 2019 and Cyborg in 2020. When are they coming out? And before anyone says, "those were placeholders for stock holders only," they shouldn't have publicly announced it.

Latest rumors has the Batman, Sirens and MOS2 in 2019 and Flash pushed back to 2020. Still want to say GL will come out in 2020? When no one has even been cast yet? Or would you say Black Adam with the Rock cast may slide in there? So that pushes GL to what? 2021? Later?

The only other movie we were supposed to get in 2018 was the Flash. Now maybe WB wanted to get Batman out for July 2018 but that always seemed like a longshot once Affleck stepped down as director.

I don't know about you, but I think I can carry on breathing till 2021 or later if that's the case... they'll arrive when they arrive. Take it as it's presented. For all we know, as many are speculating/suggesting, we may even get a Superman sequel and Batman solo in the same year, that's two films in one year by my maths, if 2018 is a 'one film' year, so be it.

I would think Flash and maybe Green Lantern get a director by the end of the year. Keeping fingers crossed about MOS 2.

I just said that the latest rumors are we are getting a MOS2 and Batman in 2019.
