All Things DCEU News, Discussion, and Speculation - Part 2

So, we have Matt Reeves (probably) rewriting The Batman from scratch, and Matthew Vaughn potentially circling Superman to do the same thing...

Are we starting to see the stirrings of a soft reboot for both characters, and a move away from the Snyder narrative?

I certainly hope so. Just. . . even in the best case, things will get worse before they get better. We still have three movies from the "old regime", and Justice League at a minimum will be dire. The fear is that, even if WB decides now that they need a new direction? They have plenty of time to meddle anyway, especially if one or more of the next three movies are disasters.

That said if scripts aren't ready to go, studio is content just shooting AQUAMAN this year till films are ready to go

The 5 films being considered are SIRENS, FLASH, LANTERN, SQUAD 2 and DARK UNIVERSE.

With BATMAN likely shooting in 2018, WB still would like one more DC property to shoot this year other than AQUAMAN

Gotham City Sirens please. :ilv:

Bryce Dallas Howard as Ivy and Eva Green as Catwoman.

Wonder what's happening with Shazam/Black Adam or is that separate since it's being made by New Line Cinema and not WB.

I really want Dark Universe to be made, I think the concept would translate well in live action

Moving AQUAMAN to December 2018 may be about VFX, but also strikes me as a sign of confidence in the film. There will almost certainly be more competition in December 2018.

Having kids/parents choose between a Spiderman animated movie or Aquaman? I dont think Aquaman is going to win that tbh.

I suspect Animated Spider-Man will move, I think October 5th 2018 would work if Venom doesn't materialise or move Goosebumps 2 to January 2019 and have it in September.

I think Sirens could do well in October, just in time for Halloween and all those Harley costumes.

My money is on Sirens. That movie actually has a director, script and star. No chance its Flash or GLC since those two don't even have directors and are barely in the scripting stage. SS2 just barely got a screenwriter and doesn't have a director either, it does have stars though. JLD is a dark horse, no idea what's going on there. Last I heard it has a director and a working script...so if I had to guess:

1)Gotham City Sirens
2)Justice League Dark
3)SS2
4)The Flash
5)GLC

Here's my 2 cents as a fan.

Flash and Lantern are out of the question. Those NEED to be right. Goyer just started on GLC and Joby just started his page one re-write. So, NO.

Skwad 2 would be nice, but I think the fans would like it if Mel Gibson were on board. Instead of pressuring him and him leaving talks just let him sign on when he's committed. So, TBD?

Sirens is the safest bet. The absolute safest bet. Both Margot and Harley Quinn are the hot ticket right now. Cast a veteran vixen with acting chops for Selina and you're well on you're way.

Dark Universe, I want this to get made. Out of all of these I want to watch this one the most. But the caveat is that unlike Skwad 1 I'm invested in these characters. Zatanna and Swamp Thing especially (John Constantine is almost impossible to mess up). If they eff up Zatanna in her first live action outing I will be pissed. There's also the finesse that this script in particular requires. This property lends itself much more to the Horror genre than adventure/science fiction. But these are "superheroes". The closest there's been to a Superhero/Horror movie is the Blade movies (thanks 2kt09), GDT's Hellboy movies and the first Swamp Thing movie. This script can't be rushed like Suicide Squad.

That ended up more like 10 cents, but there you have it.

So not to restart a discussion, saying that it's okay they aren't rushing because Aquaman is being pushed back, but now they are possibly fast tracking one of 5 movies?

Put the breaks on Sirens and focus on SS2 IMO. You potentially have a big name director there and that has the best chance for the biggest payday for WB.

Sirens and SS2 being in pre-production concurrently feels like beta-testing two separate ideas when you really only plan to do one. I doubt we'll see both.

That kinda sounds like he's just guessing to me. He's already given himself an out with the first tweet.

With all that I think by logic Gotham City Sirens reportedly already having a script is the obvious choice if this is true.

It would have to be surely, take the 5 as far as we know/rumoured:

1)Gotham City Sirens - director attached, The lead Margot Robbie attached and script reportedly done
2)Justice League Dark - Del Toro left the project reportedly with a script, casting rumours led to no news, can in aging it's FX heavy
3)SS2 - WBs courting Mel Gibson, not sure he would want to rush a film, script writer in talks
4)The Flash - page one rewrite, but sone roles already cast, again though FX heavy
5)GLC - rumours all over the board but as far as we know no star, no script, major fx heavy

It's gotta be Sirens, I imagine that will be the least FX heavy and it seems to be the only one that's got more things ready to go.

Right, open your ears execs at WB, okay, are we all sitting comfortably, are our arms and legs crossed, do we have our pads and pencils by our sides ready to take notes, do we have your attention.....

2018, one film, Aquaman in completion in every way possible, in terms of complete post production, director having their final say on edit, polished SFX, a release plan with no hitches or back steps, allowing ONE film the chance to breathe with it's own respect and due will.... that's okay, that's allowed people, you don't have to have two films in a year, doing your thing is okay, not following the older boys at Marvel is fine, releasing one film shows independence, that you are ready to mature and be your own route. It's going to be okay, strength in your universe comes in many ways, you are doing fine, most importantly, those that really care, have faith in you, one film a year, two films a year, it doesn't matter, we believe in you.

Now, uncross your legs, unfold your arms, show us you've listened, make your notes and carry one making (some) of us happy.

No need to hurry to release a film next year. They should make sure they do start filming at least two films next year. GSC or JLD hell even use this time till end year to hire a director for flash.

I'm hoping the next two years looks like this:

2018
GCS (Ayer), Aquaman (Wan)

2019
Batman (Reeves), Superman (Vaughn)

I like that, but I'd want them to be a bit more aggressive, so out of the current development slate, I'd like a third and maybe even a fourth movie in 2019. Let's say Flash and either Dark Universe or Suicide Squad 2.

Holy **** guys just had a twitter conversation with Frazer Churchill and he said he can't confirm or deny anything.

Maybe so but I feel like keep it steady at 2 a year for 2018-19 then hit us with 3 in 2020

2020 could be DCEU's time to shine. As of right now, MCU doesn't have anything scheduled.

Well GCS and JLD both have a director so they both have a chance. SS2 is being written and most of the main cast are already in place so it seems to be out of those 3 the choice to release next year

GLC and Flash are quite clearly not happening by then. Just don't rush anything WB please. GCS and SS would probably be less effects heavy though so they seem the most likely.

Jeff Sneider on popcorn talk has said WB is looking into getting David Goyer to direct GLC in addition to writing it

So was it pure luck that WB thought outside the box and got McKay for Nightwing, but may potentially fall back on Goyer for Green Lantern?
