Jon Schnepp says the Matt Reeves Batman movie will most likely be a reboot with Affleck passing the cowl to Nightwing.
Not like this...

But... How? Nightwing will be both Nightwing and Batman?

It'd be really cool if Affleck got a proper trilogy the way Bale/Nolan got.

But I'd want to see at least 2 Affleck centered Batman movies, they could even be pseudo team up movies featuring the Bat family like the robins, Nightwing, Batgirls, etc.

Wtf does John Schnepp know?

These are the same people who were talking **** and making fun of Ben Affleck going so far as taking jabs at his alcoholism two weeks ago. Now they want to ride his dick and go on about how strong he is for this that and the third and how the media had "the integrity" to not make headlines about it.

Okkkk... I have lost all respect for those people.

The guy's comeback is as complete as it's going to be. His invitation to all the awards shows and being nominated are proof of that.

I find it hard to believe in the next year or so, press will drudge up his past continually. For what purpose, and what exactly would they have to say about a man just taking on another project?

It wouldn't be just another project. Superhero films receive a lot of attention in the media, and there are bound to be people who make a fuss about such a controversial figure directing the sequel to a fairly successful superhero movie. The DCEU has a habit of attracting negative press and the media likes to remind the pubic of a person's controversial actions and/or words the instant they become more high profile (just ask Casey Affleck).

Jon Schnepp says the Matt Reeves Batman movie will most likely be a reboot with Affleck passing the cowl to Nightwing.

How is it a reboot? Apologies for getting technical, but a reboot is defined as the following:
In serial fiction, to reboot means to discard all continuity in an established series in order to recreate its characters, timeline and backstory from the beginning.
If it's just a passing of the cowl, that isn't a reboot. Continuity wouldn't be discarded or characters recreated. It also wouldn't refer to the film in which the torch passing takes place, meaning Reeves' Batman movie starring Affleck wouldn't be the reboot, to use it as the misnomer it is, but Nightwing would be. Even then, if it's called Nightwing, I wonder how far into the transition Dick Grayson would be. The Batman is a role or a symbol. It can be taken on by multiple people. Bruce Wayne is a person/character. Dick Grayson is a person/character. If a new actor were to become Bruce Wayne's Batman in a new franchise, like Bale to Affleck, that is a reboot. If a new character (Dick) becomes Batman after a previous character (Bruce) resigns/dies, then it is not a reboot.

So, yeah, not sure how reboot is the correct word here.

I'm very sick of this endless barrage of DCEU "scoops". It's so tedious and exhausting, with every piece of non-news dissected and talked to death.

When was the last official announcement that WB themselves made about anything regarding the future of the DCEU? Was it moving Aquaman?

I think so.

RE: Bruce passing on the mantle: it'd be a reboot in the loosest sense of the word. Same continuity, different players.

Casey will be happy to answer while he's holding all his awards. Whether people talk about Mels past or not if he does a good job then give him any job he wants. I won't hold his past words against him and I'm sure there are many others who won't eiher. DC needs good directors and don't have the mega stats to turn good directors away because of something they said 10yrs ago.

I didn't say Affleck suffered for it, I said that the press has a habit of bringing up the past when controversial individuals are thrust into the spotlight. Sometimes it matters (Nate Parker), sometimes it doesn't. But I'm fairly certain his hiring would lead to a fair amount of bad press, which the DCEU doesnt need more of. I have no opinion of the man or his work; just saying what I think will happen.

This news has me feeling really salty. I mean, Goyer?? Seriously?

I'm getting to the point where I'd welcome a hard reboot. Just do the DC Universe again from scratch

Goyer won't be directing. Don't believe the bs. He'll write, it's what he does best.

What on Earth makes you all think WB would trust David Goyer with a massive sci-fi spectacle for a character they must get right?

Because WB are good at making poor creative decisions with this franchise.

Yup.

WB put Zack Snyder in charge of their tentpole superhero franchise. The guy who hasn't had an unqualified success since what, 2007?

Well, to be fair...they were on a time limit and he came with a recommendation from Nolan.

If writing is what Goyer does best, I would absolutely shudder to think what he does worse.

Holy **** guys just had a twitter conversation with Frazer Churchill and he said he can't confirm or deny anything.

What a top guy for replying.

wait what? Frazer Churchill? why would he be directing? isn't he a VFX guy wih 0 directing credits?

True, but they also put him in charge of the wider DCEU after MOS, which they definitely didn't have to do.

Yeah, that's where they ****ed up. They should've given him the boot after MOS.

Didn't he shield himself with an ironclad contract that would guarantee that he gets paid even if he is relieved of directing duties? Hence why he is still directing Justice League?

Well played, Zack. Shame about DC though.

First I'm hearing of that. I'd always heard that he was the only one really trying to make the DCEU happen, so it saved the studio to trouble of having to start from scratch. Contract or not, it was still idiotic of them to not leave themselves time after DOJ to get their **** together just in case something went wrong.

And so what, Afflecks nomination had bad press and he still won. Mel's movie had bad press and it still got nominated. Bad press doesn't impact whether a movie is good or bad; let people talk all they want. I would rather they talk about Mel's past exploits rather than bashing DCEUs movies for no reason. Plus I would rather someone with talent and controversy direct a DC film rather than someone ike Goyer.
