Ohhh years ago he infront of the camera talked about his young years and he admited that he put a gun to someone's head and wanted to kill him. when he was on drugs.
I can't find anything like that online; are you sure you're not misremembering this quote:
He told the judge, "It’s like I’ve got a shotgun in my mouth with my finger on the trigger, and I like the taste of gun metal."

Nope. afraid not.

the question is if this is so bad? he is an actor and not our friend.

What a ridiculous false dichotomy or dilemma. The choices aren't between good filmmaker and bad morals, Mel Gibson, or good morals and bad filmmakers, like other directors. There are, believe it or not, good filmmakers who also have good morals.
fine. but if Mel Gibson wants to do this movie, just know that the outcome we'll get will not be one that you like.

They're in the business of making money, and Mel is one of those guys who puts asses in seats based off of involvement alone.

You guys do know that the Suicide Squad is group of villains coerced into servitude under the threat of death to complete the most dangerous of missions on behalf of the US government sometimes without the US government's knowledge giving said US government plausible deniability.

This isn't exactly the "beacon of hope" franchise here. Mel Gibson's sensibilities for gritty action and storytelling make him perfect for this.

This has been my take since they first mentioned his interest.

He makes great films, but he doesn't care whether he stays true to source material. So, he could well make a popular SS film, but one that destroys any hope for continuity.

oh no, I meant that if he wants to do the movie, WB will be over the moon about it

as far as we know, it was always his decision to make

Mel might not totally honor the characters, but I trust him enough to make changes that are creatively sound and are accepted by the audience, because he's just that good of a filmmaker.

He's the kind of guy who can make tough decisions with well known fictional characters and pull it off, at least imo.

I haven't yet seen anything else from Braveheart, but did The Passion of the Christ and Hacksaw Ridge not honor the characters?
And are those characters based on fictional source? :hmm

someone got my jesus joke (I think) lol

Hacksaw Ridge is based on the life of Desmond Doss The only thing he changed was the back story of the protagonist's father played by Hugo Weaving (made him a drunk with PTSD, Doss and his pop got into a bad scuffle), but those changes only added to the story. And he only did it after getting permission from the family.

So yeah, I trust Mel with the Squad. If he does it he'll do it right and whatever he changes will be improvements.

the badpress is unwarranted though, so doesn't really bug me, bring more on, and they'll just better and better.

At this point the movies slowly keep making more money as people aren't taking the "reviews" seriously.

So yeah let gibson, if it's bad press hey who cares, we'll end up with a much better dceu in the long run, and the press will be without jobs because they are doing such a piss poor job.

qft

Braveheart is rife with blatant historical errors, the least of which being that the Battle of Stirling Bridge was fought on a bridge (go figure). More egregious were such elements as the Princess Wallace knocks up was three years old at the time, and the doctrine Prima Nocta, so central to the movie, never existed in Scotland.

The Patriot suffers from numerous similar issues, such as the burning of the church (again a pivotal event in the film), which is a complete fabrication.

Like I said, he'll make a good movie, but if you think he's going to worry about getting Killer Croc right, I wouldn't bet on it.

Yes...yes...but Gibson didn't write/direct/produce The Patriot.

Really not much to get wrong with Killer Croc
given the first movie got the gist of him.

All I'm saying is that he has the potential to make a film that is really enjoyable and a huge hit; just don't be surprised (and post dozens of threads complaining) if he does so in a way that completely destroys the DCEU for the real fans.

@buddboetticher So... why are you making a Nightwing solo and not a Teen Titans or a Young Justice movie, Chris?

Chris McKay‏ @buddboetticher

@A256112 Patience....

With Vaughn rumored to be in the running, and my continual assurance Superman 2 was on the farthest of back burners, I'd happily like to admit I was wrong....when it's announced. Really seems like WB/DC are learning, and getting their **** together. Unless it's all just PR pandering, which they've been known to do, but I like to think we'll be getting our first good DC movie since 2008, relatively soon. Fingers crossed it wasn't too late for WW!

I wouldn't give him a film that requires a ton of VFX.

Peele is definitely fielding offers for larger films. I know some new directors don't work out for large-scale films, but I think Peele could do it if he wanted to.

And it would help WB in the long run, in terms of directing diversity. They can't just keep hiring new directors that are almost always white men.

Sure, but that mean he needs to be the next black man they hire. At least not for one of their big budget movies. Give him a little more time to grow as a filmmaker and then snatch him up (if he's even interested, which he allegedly isn't).

When it comes to the DCEU, I only want the purest of heart.

Pillars of the community, upstanding members of society. People our kids can look up to, y'know?

And if that means not including people like Mel Gibson, then so be it. I'm sure the guy who directed San Andreas or The Legend of Tarzan are available.

Directors also must be staunch born Again Christians, with 10 adopted children all from 3rd world countries and lifetime members of the ACLU.
