Seriously, you guys and your obsessive need for good reviews by "professional critics" who probably couldn't write or direct a good movie to save their life and RT scores...I don't understand this need for approval.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach. Everyone else is a critic. :-p

It'd be nice if the film was considered a success by the people who are paid to give us their opinions on films for a living.

Don't get why that's weird...

a lotta crits read others' reviews before submitting their "own" .. its a vocational "credibility" thing .. often too scared to have their own opinion at the expense of their peers .. much like, when at a funeral, a family member scrambles for the valuables, everybody else follows suit .. it's human nature .. at its best :whatever:

Everyone is an impossibility. "Everyone" it's the figurative everyone and by no means the literal or absolute. Not everyone loved avengers but the term is far more at appropriate than everyone loved After Earth.
I didn't mean it in that way. I just mean that the amount of people that go to the movies in total is enormous and even one that earns over a billion dollars will not have brought in the vast majority of them. My point is that some say critics have no connection to the GA when they give a low grade to a movie that does well at the box office, but they might see it similarly as everyone that never even thinks about going and seeing it.

This isn't a very important matter though, I'm just trying to explain what I meant previously.

It's a fair point, but it doesn't rub me the wrong way any less.

Alot of language in reviews comes in this particular form:
"And then his dad dies, and you feel...nothing or something or whatever what not"
"And when he makes that joke, you don't feel like this is..."
"And because of that, you walk out of the theater feeling..."

Replace all those you's with I's. I'd appreciate it.
I can agree with their phrasing as they often tend to write their opinions as facts, which is probably in part to provoke. I'm a proponent of stating opinions as opinions and facts as facts so I'd like them to write it differently as well. I don't think they actually intend to decide our opinions for us though, it's just poor communication.

As for me writing "I" instead of "you", I don't think that makes sense in that context as I was responding to an example where you used yourself. You can however see every "you" after the first one as the general you and not you as a person, as that's how it was intended. It's a bit annoying that the word "you" has those two different meanings. In Swedish the personal and general yous are different words, so I know how much more convenient that is.

So...if people around YOU act crooked...YOU will act crooked too? Nice to know.

Some people can control their own paths.

So I just came back from watching MOS...and it was a huge disappointment.

The movie was practically all style and no substances.

I don't know what Snyder is thinking... he choose to focus too much on action scenes and battle sequences.

Everything else just fell flat.

Just because you throw in a ridiculous amount of action, explosions, City under attack and buildings collasping....that does not equals to great storytelling or a great movie.

Is Snyder trying to be Michael Bay?

I don't think Snyder understands or gets it at all. This movie has no "heart and soul" to it.

Some of the action scenes doesn't even make sense.

For example...the Superman Vs Zod across the cornfields. Zod didn't even do anything to Martha ( I think Faora was the one who hurt Martha).....then suddenly out of nowhere, Superman attacks Zod like crazy.

Troll much?

Sorry, not sure what you mean?

Do you mean Avengers had more emotion or MOS has more emotion?

Cause i'm probably the wrong person to talk to about Avengers in that sense. It didn't connect with me emotionally at all, and I was incredibly dissapointed about that because I love Whedon's other, much deeper work.

Fun flick, but it didn't stay with me.

Well the lack of emotion and such things is supposedly hurting the critics scores with MoS. I guessing because these same things seemingly didn't hurt avengers that MoS doesn't have as much heart and emotion.

Normally I wouldn't compare things so literally but this lack of heart and story keep being brought up in these reviews so it must be some big sticking point.

Did you miss the part where Zod is threatening to kill Martha to get the information from her?

I congratulate you for having the guts.

But it's literally impossible for me to feel that way about the film. MOS Trailer 3 made me cry. The Avengers didn't. :funny:

Yeah, but Zod didn't do anything to hurt Martha. Faora was the one who hurt Martha.

Yet Superman attack Zod like crazy. That fight sequence was just so intense.

You would have thought Zod did something really vicious to Martha to trigger such a mad reaction from Superman ...if you watch only part of that battle sequence online.

"An Epic Masterpiece" - Jake Hamilton/FOX-TV
I don't know anything about his reviews or taste in movies, but I will say that guy gives the best interviews. You can always tell he put a lot of thought and effort into coming up with interesting questions that haven't been asked by anyone else.

The vibe seems better here today so far. Dare I say the worst has passed? Are we in the "acceptance" phase? :woot:

I'm merely quoting this because of your user name and how you may be my alter ego perhaps. :hehe:

But kudos for speaking your mind, some people are going bonkers because it's not getting the reviews they wanted to hear. Still definitely looking forward to it.

So if a big dude threatens your mother, you wouldn't knock the **** out of him until he hurts her?

:whatever::doh:

no heart and soul?

REALLY?

I can't remember how many times I nearly cried in the movie.

You also have to remember that Superman, at that point, has never been able to unleash the fury and rage that he's felt throughout. He finally has a chance to let loose on someone that can actually take it.

i dont expect him to write anything else here :D going into a thread bash a movie and leave :)

There's speaking your mind and then there's that mess Jed posted. It's not the film maker's fault if he can't grasp simple concepts and plain common sense.
