Why would ANYONE suggest that the family died? Besides those that hated the movie of course?

The old Superman cartoon episode 'The Mad Scientist' features falling over skyscrapers ala MOS and Superman doing battle with an energy beam, ala the terraforming device.

Is there a comic/media reference list for MOS going around?
Clark standing at the edge of the helicopter platform and holding up the falling tower reminds me of Superman in The Mad Scientist standing on the edge of a rooftop and holding up the falling Daily Planet.

That's an awesome reference I can't believe I didn't connect those two, that's one of my favorite original Superman cartoon episodes.
Yes, I see what you mean.Clark standing at the edge of the helicopter platform and holding up the falling tower reminds me of Superman in The Mad Scientist standing on the edge of a rooftop and holding up the falling Daily Planet.

Not sure what to think of MOS. Why the hell is a Superman film really dark and gritty, it's not Batman for christsakes. Superman comics on the other hand were never this dark and gritty. The comics were always majestic and epic, something that Donner's film absolutely nailed.
It seems like the filmmakers tried to make MOS like the Dark Knight films. But like I've already said. Batman was always dark in the comics, Superman wasn't.
I'll probably get flamed for this but before anybody bites my head off, read the comics and then come back to me and still tell me that MOS is faithful to them.
The best adaptations are the ones that are faithful to the original source material.
Regarding the neck-snapping, did he twist his head left or right? Can't remember which one it was.
From Superman's point of view, he pulls his head slightly to the right (towards the family) but also up before pulling it to the far left to complete the snap (away from the family)Regarding the neck-snapping, did he twist his head left or right? Can't remember which one it was.
Comments like this make me laugh! Especially the bold part:
Superman comics on the other hand were never this dark and gritty.
Bwahaha! Seriously? The comics can be much, much worse. You have people getting killed left and right, raped by super villains, there is actual gore. MOS is a kids movie in comparison.
It felt like the Amazing Spider-Man to me. Just without the funny beats. It was simply grounded and felt like Superman could exist in our world.
I could have sworn Superman actually died at one point, didn't he? Isn't that about as dark and gritty as you can get?
I was personally pleased to see Superman with a little bite and realism in the story.
