Why would ANYONE suggest that the family died? Besides those that hated the movie of course?

I remember when the tv spot with the shot of Superman screaming was first released, several people theorized that Superman was screaming in response to Zod killing a family.

The old Superman cartoon episode 'The Mad Scientist' features falling over skyscrapers ala MOS and Superman doing battle with an energy beam, ala the terraforming device.

Is there a comic/media reference list for MOS going around?

That's an awesome reference I can't believe I didn't connect those two, that's one of my favorite original Superman cartoon episodes.

Clark standing at the edge of the helicopter platform and holding up the falling tower reminds me of Superman in The Mad Scientist standing on the edge of a rooftop and holding up the falling Daily Planet.

Odd and unimportant similarities between (Donner) Superman 1-2 and MOS:

Jor-El(s) has great heads hair. (some realer than others)
Faora/Ursa have short black hair and are hot, (some more than others)
Nam-Ek/Non have no dialog.
Kal-El give a full frontal.

add your own if desired.

i don't know if this has been brought up with the superman jesus analogy but, jesus supposedly started his ministry at 30 and died at 33. superman is revealed to the world at 33. i just thought most of you should have that useless information. thanks for your time.

So if Superman is Jesus does that mean Heaven blew up?

Mine too  the Fleischer episodes are so good, animations never looked as good as that for a cartoon series imo.

Yes, I see what you mean.

I love all the Fleischer references that Snyder included, including the very last shot of the first teaser trailers (wides hot of superman flying through the clouds).

Even the way Superman moves has that awesome animation-y bouncy feel.

Regarding the neck-snapping, did he twist his head left or right? Can't remember which one it was.

Comments like this make me laugh! Especially the bold part:

Not sure what to think of MOS. Why the hell is a Superman film really dark and gritty, it's not Batman for christsakes. Superman comics on the other hand were never this dark and gritty. The comics were always majestic and epic, something that Donner's film absolutely nailed.

It seems like the filmmakers tried to make MOS like the Dark Knight films. But like I've already said. Batman was always dark in the comics, Superman wasn't.

I'll probably get flamed for this but before anybody bites my head off, read the comics and then come back to me and still tell me that MOS is faithful to them.

The best adaptations are the ones that are faithful to the original source material.

From Superman's point of view, he pulls his head slightly to the right (towards the family) but also up before pulling it to the far left to complete the snap (away from the family)

Random Side note: I can't stop listening to "This is Madness!" from the deluxe soundtrack on repeat. That group of percussionists ROCK!

Bwahaha! Seriously? The comics can be much, much worse. You have people getting killed left and right, raped by super villains, there is actual gore. MOS is a kids movie in comparison.

I still don't think the movie was dark and gritty. Still don't get it... But, yeah, it was kinda humorless.

It felt like the Amazing Spider-Man to me. Just without the funny beats. It was simply grounded and felt like Superman could exist in our world.

I could have sworn Superman actually died at one point, didn't he? Isn't that about as dark and gritty as you can get?

I was personally pleased to see Superman with a little bite and realism in the story.

I got this as well. Especially with what Zod wants to do to Earth.

I wonder how those people reacted to Superman in the Justice League cartoon, when he told Darkseid he wouldn't stop, until he's a greasy smear on his fist.
