Rewatched MOS again for the first time since opening night, I want to love this movie so much but I just can't get behind it. Unfortunately I felt the same about it as I did the first night.

I rewatched it as well for the first time since opening weekend. I enjoyed it a little bit more, but it still gets an 8/10.

I'm glad you can enjoy it, unfortunately for me it's far more bad than good in it.

When I first saw it, the Smallville battle felt like it went on forever. This time around it didn't have that feel. I also still can't stand when he first takes flight, he laughing about it. Something about that scene just makes me cringe.

I've seen this movie a number of times that my feelings haven't change: I really like it. I'm very happy with what we got, and I'm also very happy that I'm not getting a repeat of Superman Returns and getting bored with each reviewing. I like Man of Steel, and will continue to defend and support it :D

That said, I still do not, for the life of me, understand any or all of the criticisms. It just seems like they're nitpicks, or not really flaws at all with the only real problem is themselves, or people believing the Reeve Superman was THE Superman and not just a version which MOS is also, or fans and critics place Superman on a pedestal because he's perfect to them and if the movie shows one sign against it they attack it, or if they don't like Zack Snyder, David Goyer, or even Chris Nolan, they'll hate their movie even if it's good.

Man of Steel is a very good Superman movie, because it is and feels like a Superman movie (something we didn't get with SR, nor have we gotten since either STM or SII). It also made me feel good in the end. I will continue to defend and support it.

P.S. I also like to point out how the filmmakers didn't alter Superman's character in MOS. He is still idealistic, and wants to help people, something that he wanted to do since he was a kid, and no alienation or bullying from other classmates changed that. The only thing that was "dark" that wasn't the villains was the cynical world he lived in, which we are also living in this very moment. Another thing, just to throw it out there; I'm glad that they didn't change their minds over Superman killing Zod. Supes wasn't a murderer, he was doing the one thing he didn't want to do, but had to do to save the world. I'm glad this wasn't changed because if they did, then they would've been playing it safe, and thus their ideas and vision would've been affected. But no, they did it because it served the story, and they were going to do it no matter what backlash they faced regardless of the reasons they had. They didn't play it safe; when was the last time you saw that in movies today?

Or maybe that's just how they felt about the movie.

Well there's is:

This is an example of what I mean. Not a flaw, and maybe not a nitpick either, it just makes no sense. Superman cannot express happiness and joy when he finally masters flying?! What?!

...why do I get a feeling that I'm going to make a thread, related but not in the forums of MOS, but of something that is going to make people...let's say, angry over how controversy it is.

Merely a difference of opinion. I imagine he/she is talking about the execution of the scene, not the idea.

I'm jumping in on the just watched MOS again debate.

Now I saw MOS four times in the cinema (which wasn't easy,
as I'm on a tight budget) and I liked it more and more each time.

The first time I saw it, I had the same feeling I had when I saw
Superman, the movie, back in 1978. It was awesome.

Didn't feel it dragged at all, felt a high degree of pathos for the
young Clark Kent as he struggled to uncover his true identity.

Anyway, since then I've seen MOS a few times (won't say how)
and it still gets better and better.
I thought that of all the Snyder films, it had the best pacing.
Very strong performances from Cavill as Clark and of course Amy Adams
(great actress) Costner, Lane and Shannon, were all predictably
great.
A great surprise was Antje Traue as Faora, slinky and menacing at the
same time.

Anyway, I still get a thrill from the "flight " sequence. The guy who didn't like the laughing bit, come on, here's a man who's been a somewhat
confused loner his whole life, and now he's actually found out who
he really is, and WHY he's so different.

The laughter....come on, you've just discovered that you can fly, don't you think that you'd be overcome with joy. If anything Chris Reeve (RIP) was a bit too restrained. That scene was my favourite, right from the moment he first steps out in the costume...I remember thinking "That's what Superman should look like." the Jor-El voice-over was a nice
touch, the intense look of concentration on Clark's face as he hurls
himself into the sky. Truly awesome.

On that note, when Supes does something strenuous, he grunts
(like when he flies at Faora, or flies up the gravity beam, or holds up the
oil rig), he's not just cruising
I liked that, that even though he's Superman and has god-like might, that
things still aren't easy for him.

Cavill's Superman frowns a lot, but hey this is Superman for the 21st
century, a more serious time. He's the Superman we deserve, and the one we need right now,an NFL-watching, Budweiser-drinking, guys who loves his mom.

I'm looking forward to BM v SM, but looking forward to MOS 2 more.

cheers.

^With you so much man. I saw it six times in the cinemas and paid for eight tickets. I did my part, damnit! I cannot stand the wait for my Blu copy. I always say, as a HUGE fan of the Donner film that I got a Supes movie I did not even know I wanted. It's no where near the film I would have made. That means bupkis as to whether it was a quality film. And it so was. I enjoyed it, and it looks like I am getting both a S/B movie, a JLA movie and the kick off of a DCCU. Guess what? We win.

No one is going out of there way to blast Man Of Steel. It just wasn't everyone's cup of tea. Pacing, boring dialogue, and too much going on near the end really drove the movie down. I enjoyed it though, but can certainly understand why someone wouldn't. The dialogue was pretty cheesy.

I've watched it again twice recently and to be honest, I enjoyed it more. It's only on a second viewing that I really got my head round some of the fast-paced action scenes a bit better and noted little things that they did here and there.

And also, a second viewing shows up even more of the nuances and mannerisms that Cavill injected into his interpretation of Superman.

A marching band tribute to Hollywood, which includes Superman. It's at the beginning of the routine.

and all of those are valid complaints….the majority of complaints I have seen on this site were not.
Things like Superman killing
Why doesn't Farris know what terraforming is

I just get such mixed feelings. Because I enjoy the majority of the film on the same sort of level I enjoy Smallville (which is not a bad thing), but I always feel this sense of dread because I know what's coming and it hurts my heart every time.

But I know that is entirely a personal thing. And it's sad because in terms of quality, I'd have been perfectly capable of at least continuing to enjoy the film, or even have grown to love it on multiple watches - kind of like how I feel about Daredevil. Like it's not the best movie ever, or the most intelligent script - but I enjoy it every time I see it.

Oh well. I'm really hoping I can have that at least for the next film.

I'm actually really looking forward to it because now that I know it won't ever be the kind of TDK style of realism, I can look forward to what it might realistically be - fun, dark in places, awesome visuals, hot Cavill shots (:p) etc.

Funny thing, when you talked about your sense of dread , you are talking about MOS,
But I initially thought you were talking about Smallville .
Because as the show goes on you start to see the quality drop and that creates a sense of dread.(for some.)

I have a question: remember that scene where Clark and Pa & Ma are in the truck arguing; does anyone remember that scene being a few seconds longer with more dialogue? I seem to recall when I saw this at the midnight opening that Clark was arguing about going to the military and that people in the town were suspecting him anyway. It's in the novel, but I seem to remember it from the film, but now when I see the film again and again, I don't see that anymore. Is it just me?

Surely wasn't in the film maybe in the novelization..

Yup. Definitely just you. That was never in the film...

MOS is still my favorite SH movie of the year. T:TDW not withstanding as I haven't seen it yet.

Well, I loved MOS my first 2 viewings. I recently watched it and only liked it. Stupid cringeworthy moments and great moments combined.

1st Viewing-8/10
2nd Viewing-8.5/10
3rd Viewing-7.5/10

Wow watched again MOS last saturday and I continue loving even more than the first time. of course the first screening I was shocked, too much to handle in one day and needed a second screening... with obviously much much more epicness and greatness than flaws (which every movie has it). I continuisly get amazed by the movie each time I see it..

They should seriously hire a writer specifically to polish the dialogue. Someone like Jane Goldman. For example, here's a tweak I thought was a missed opportunity:
