Here in the UK the story isn't about how good the occasion was.... but how bad it is to have a skimpily clad woman as a UN ambassador...

****ing hell...

Perhaps the UN organizers weren’t anticipating this pushback - but I think they missed an opportunity by not having feminist icon Gloria Steinem involved. She’s been a passionate defender of Wonder Woman for decades.

The main problem is that this symbolic “ambassadorship” appears to be one of the few women-centered initiatives by the UN (e.g., they recently selected yet another male to be Secretary General). If postive stuff was happening on that front, I think WW would be getting less grief.

It seems that people protesting against WW's status as honorary ambassador don't know what that means.

However, honorary ambassadors — as opposed to goodwill ambassadors like Nicole Kidman and Anne Hathaway — are fictional characters, according to the Associated Press.

The U.N. previously tapped Winnie the Pooh to be an honorary Ambassador of Friendship in 1998 and Tinker Bell as the honorary Ambassador of Green in 2009.

It's a real shame. The problem with part of the protest is that they keep talking about a woman in a skimpy bustier or swimsuit and spangled panties with the American colours emblazoned on her, and then they keep showing footage of Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman as proof of that, at least on the UK news footage.

But I don't see them showing the updated costume that Gal wears which isn't so bright or skimpy. It certainly isn't a swimsuit and there are no stars on her "panties", which is in fact a battle skirt. And it doesn't look so American at all.

In fact, all the news footage in the UK immediately shows Lynda Carter's WW and Lynda Carter herself, and barely mentions Gal. So if they keep promoting the 70s image, then they can't complain when people think that this is what WW still looks like today if they haven't seen the Gal version.

If they'll start pumping trailers for this like they did with BvS and Squad, I'll start to get worried. I don't like the fact that Wonder Woman (June) will have 2 trailers with 6 minutes of material before the end of the year, when GOTG (May) is chilling with a 1 minute teaser. WB marketing seems desperate at times.

Yes, it's only WB that seems "desperate".

Doctor Strange: 3 Trailers, over 30 TV Spots, and Multiple Clips
Age of Ultron: 4 Trailers, 42 TV Spots, and 16 Clips

I can list others, but what would be the point. It's funny that you have forgotten that many people in the media actually praised the marketing for Suicide Squad.

They can release as much stuff as they like, we don't have to watch all of it. Next trailer will be "it" for me. After that I'll stick to stills and posters.

Let's not kid ourselves, alright?

A trailer is an event that is supposed to dominate the internet and bring as many people into the conversation. It also reveals plot points. 9 out of 10 people will watch every major trailer. If you want to avoid them and their info about the movie, you'll have to try really hard.

TV spots and clips are an aggressive marketing toll that lasts about 2-3 weeks. They get no coverage. I didn't watch any Batman v Superman TV spots and clips, for example and didn't hear anything about them.

And let's not talk about the time span, ah? BvS marketing campaign started 11 months before release. Civil War? 5 (!) months.

Studios are aware of that and that's why, for example, Star Wars Ep. 7 marketing campaign, that tried really hard to give the hardcore fans the best experience, had just 2 teasers and a final trailer (6 minutes combined) and ****load of TV spots and clips.

I mean, it's ridiculous. I'll give you Civil War or GOTG, because the characters are established.

But..

Doctor Strange - First trailer 7 months before release. 2 minutes long. Most of it is the first act. Second trailer 3 months before release. 2 minutes long. Final trailer 1 month before release. 1 minute (they called it a TV spot).

Wonder Woman - First trailer 10 months before release. 3 minutes long. Scenes from first and second act. Second trailer.. 6-7 months before release,

Why?

I'm not watching any other WW trailer.

I hope all the WW gifs and pics from the next trailer will also be in spoiler tags. Or there should be a thread for all the spoiler pics so that the rest of us can still visit without having to see all the images.

Looking at the competition WW has, it makes sense to start marketing campaign early, at this point GoTG doesn't need much marketing as the last movie was received extremely well plus they (Marvel Studios) have added benefit of having a history of getting favorable reviews for all their moves from top Critics and fans alike.

Whether on wants to admit it or not, WW is an unconventional movie being the first solo female superhero movie set in an "unified" DC movie-verse, which has been at the receiving end of critics and fans alike.

Can you image the outcry from people if WB did not release a WW trailer at SDCC on Wonder Woman's 75th anniversary? Frankly, WB was forced to make a splash at SDCC this year due to all of the BvS negativity. Which is why they also released the JL footage to everyone online. I won't talk about a 2nd WW trailer until you show me an actual release date.

One can disagree with Snyder's vision for DC movies or the direction the creative team is taking but marketing is handled by experienced people who have successfully handled marketing of big budget WB movies before, they know what they are doing.

Let's Not pretend that Snyder is responsible for everything.

Could we also compare the production time for the movies of each company?

I have not checked dates, but it seems to me that DCU universe movies spend much more time in post-production.

I sure wish WW came out this very year.

If there is one thing that you can't criticize it's WB's marketing. Their marketing is great, which is why the last 3 DC films opened with over 100mil despite lack luster and down right terrible reviews. Marvel doesn't have to market as much because they have a trusted brand. The biggest fault with WB on the business side is that the budgets for these films are too enormous.

WB, with their apologies in the form of trailers, are only increasing the level of ownership that the media and fans feel. This is a continuation of basing BvS premise on the internet complaints about Man Of Steel or letting a trailer company edit a movie because the fans liked the trailers.

I was so disappointed when they released the Justice League trailer. I thought they will let the fans get thirsty and wow them with a trailer, but no.. Of course they will release a trailer 16 months before release.

Sony basically got nothing. big flops here and there and their last try with their biggest property - Spiderman, kinda failed. But still, they're waiting with the Homecoming trailer.

WB is acting like DC is their only property. Focus on other movies. Kong is out in 4 months and it got only 1 trailer. Justice League showed more than Kong, for ****'* sake.

Nah WB's mistake was panicking after Man of Steel's polarizing reception and making BvS on a whim because of that. They blamed the Superman character for the reaction and not the polarizing director that they had hired. They should have axed Snyder and course corrected in a Man of Steel sequel that cost less to make. Suicide Squad was rushed into production much too quickly. If they were desperate to make another Batman movie then they just should have made another one along side Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Flash movies.

The only thing I don't agree with is the "trailer". It wasn't really a trailer, just a bunch of footage put together to give you a basic idea how the movie will look and to show you the new characters we're getting. They also didn't really show much and when they release a proper trailer I expect to see more of the same, but put together much better and with different music. Plus, the only major thing there really is to spoil is Superman's return and I doubt they'll show that.

And I doubt WB would have released it if BvS was embraced by the critics.

Some people don't like that a fictional character was receiving this much attention by U.N
When there are real life heroes to pick from.

Even though the U.N has had fictional ambassadors before like Tinker Bell, or whinnie the Pooh. And even had the Angry Birds red be a mascot for climate change.

Edit I guess someone already posted this

My trailer 2 wish list

-more shots of Themyscira, like city and architecture stuff
-more Trevor/Diana banter
-Some more tease about the villain (probably Huston as Ares)
-Diana's two aunts or lil Diana growing up in Themyscira

Hope that doesn't get to spoilery.

I just want some kinda of tease that suggest the villain is going to be badass and the final fight is going to be epic.

Kong and King Arthur will get second trailers in front of Fantastic Beasts since they're coming out sooner. I think they should save the Wonder Woman second trailer to attach in front of Rogue One.

Doctor Strange didn't start shooting until November 2015 so it wasn't surprising that Marvel didn't debut the trailer until mid April.

Dr. Strange is completely special effects heavy movie, and it takes time to complete those in order to create a trailer based on it, so naturally, the trailers for Dr. Strange will take some time and they will not release them quickly, same for King Kong.
