With these third act complaints i just have to say... What exactly did you expect to happen? Seems like we getting the comic book type ending which is kind of what i want. But i guess i will have to see Thursday if it was a valid complaint...
Doctor Strange is probably a good example of how you avoid the third act "problem". TDK with its "epilogue" is probably another good example. Though its funny when you think about it. The first 2 big Superhero flicks are STM and Superman II. Neither of which have the now "typical" superhero third act.

I have liked MoS and BvS, but I do think the reaction made WB change focus to create something the critics will better respond to. I'm guessing JL won't get the glowing critic response WW is getting, but it'll be a marked improvement.

I think it's simply a case of them remaining true the character in this case. A lot of the reviews are saying along the lines of 'she's an inspiration', which is exactly how these characters should have be portrayed from the beginning. Regardless of ones personal feelings towards MoS or BvS the reality is a lot of people felt these characters weren't being shown at their inspirational best. It would appear WB have finally cotton on to that.

It didn't sound like it would be this:

The sonar stuff was a little goofy, otherwise TDK's third act was wonderful. The tension was unbearable at one point.

You just named some of the best comic book movies ever.

I'm talking about movies that are decent/solid getting good reviews for Marvel and terrible for DC.

How is Thor 2, Iron Man 2, Ant-Man, Incredible Hulk, etc etc have much better reviews than MoS?

I'm sorry but those films shouldn't be far superior than BvS either. The gap between quality of DCEU films and the average Marvel film isn't that large.
Because those that reviewed them thought they were better movies. It really is that simple.

I understand you feel a certain way about each of those movies. As do I, as does anyone who has seen all of them. They don't share those feelings. Should they lie about how they saw a movie? Should anyone ask that of you? Of course not.

Lets leave Marvel out of this...

The 2 ferries scene is just amazing, mainly because we don't even know if Joker is telling the truth or not. It could just be that their own ferry blows up if the key is turned and the other ferry lives with the guilt, so many layers to that scene. The Two-Face ending is kind of lame in hindsight but everything to that point is perfect.

I think it is more about the big action finale now, with the massive destruction. Even a DBZ style duel feels similar now. I don't complain to much though if it is done well. I still quite like Kal-El vs. Zod, though am no longer a big fan of the World Engine battle.

TBH...I have a little tear inside my heart right now

Now we can talk about a DC movie without referring to tomatoes all the time.

I think the Two-Face epilogue is what makes TDK ending work so well. It isn't about winning a fight. At least not a physical one. It is about a hero doing what is best to save his city, his people.

One negative thing that could come out of this is that the expectations for Justice League will be raised even WAY more than it already is. Critics will put it on a much higher standard and its margin for error just got smaller.

am i the only person on this planet who loved thor 2?

I've been a Thor fan since I first picked up comics (where he has mostly been a B-lister at best, that Marvel's editors often didn't really believe in).

When I saw Thor 2, I was ecstatic about seeing Thor's world receive such a vivid, wide-ranging portrayal on the big screen. It's something fans never really expected to see, even a few years prior to that. (The first movie was well-received, but felt pretty small overall, like it was confined to a few low-budget sets.)

So, I had a great time.

I recognize that, considered from a more critical perspective as a movie, it has some pretty big flaws, though.

Anyway, it's tricky finding the right formula for these characters.

Sounds like they found it with WW in this movie.

the harvey/gordon/bat climax almost gave me an heart attack

Hmmm...Isn't the reason some people are very happy right now because they can use the fresh RT score as validation that the movie they like is objectively good? :o

The final ending scene is amazing. Just the Dent confrontation didn't work for me even on first viewing. Just one small scene in perfection though :)
