Wonder Woman DVD and Blu-ray heading for September release?

There’s been no formal announcement yet, but Warner Bros is expected to reveal the release date and extra features for the home formats version of Wonder Woman any day soon. Patty Jenkins’ movie, starring Gal Gadot, is the top-grossing comic book movie of the year in the US, and a sequel was confirmed for release in December 2019 just this week.

The Digital Bits over in the US, a genuinely excellent and reliable site, now reckons that the disc release of Wonder Woman is coming on September 19th in America, and we’d expect that to be reflected over here too. As it’s a Warner Bros release, it’ll be available on DVD, Blu-ray and Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray, as well as streaming platforms.

A limited edition collectors’ box set is also being primed. We’ll update this post with the official announcement when we get it…

If it comes out in September, and WB are planning to re-release this movie in theatres in the fall, then why would people go and see it there when they can see it on Blu Ray /DVD in the comfort of their own homes instead?

Should they hold off on releasing it on Home Media until it completes its second theatrical run?

That's par for the course for the Home Media release. Generally 16 weeks is the time between the theatrical release and Home Media release.

Although I do hope the date get pushed back by a week or two to accomodate a proper Labor-Day expansion.

I'd def pay to see WW in glorious IMAX again...even if I owned blu-ray.

I think releasing blu-ray a few months before JL is smart. Will get more people hyped to see WW again in November!

I'm wondering when exactly are WB planning to re-release WW in time for the Oscars? Won't it clash with Justice League if it's too late in the Fall? But if it's earlier like September, then it will only have been out of theatres a short time just over August. How are they going to time this? October perhaps?

When does the Academy normally finalise who they want to nominate?

I doubt they'll mess with the DVD release, since that's going to be the next big source of revenue for this movie.

In terms of an expansion or re-release, I really have no idea what they may have in mind.

I guess a re-release would most likely be in January (in time for Academy consideration).

If they feel like they can squeeze out a couple of million more from the initial theatrical run, they could do a Labor expansion, but they may or may not care about that, not sure.

The film will already be above 400M by that time, and it would only generate a couple million more, I would think, at most.

The film will be at about 403.3 million just before Labor Day expansion time, if it holds like it has been doing so far.

Yeah, that's what I mean: if it were going to need a push to get to 400M, then they would certainly do that, but it doesn't look like it will.

They might do it anyway, or they might not see it as a priority, I don't think we can be sure.

The 2 movies that are primed for a LD expansion are WW and DM3. I hope WB does expand WW's theater counts for a Labor Day push before the home media release kicks in.

They very well might. Extra money and all that. The DVD is a couple of weeks later.

Isn't Labor Day in early September? I'm guessing if it's still part of its initial run, then the re-release won't be in September otherwise that just becomes one long run.

Labor Day would just be an expansion.

A re-release would not happen until months later, probably, I would guess in January.

Edit: An example would be Avengers, which was still in a very small number of theaters in August, but bumped up to 1700 for Labor Day, and the film made about 2.5 million extra during that week, then dropped back down and finished its theatrical run soon after that.

If it's a really bad year I can see it sneaking in for a Best Picture nod. Sometimes it's not about what's the best but what wins hearts, and its undeniable this film won hearts. But only if the competition is really piss weak, we've already got Dunkirk which is a shoe in and Apes is also going to put its hand up. Nominations I can see though - Costume Design, Cinematography, Sound Design and Sound Mixing, maybe Editing, Score and Adapted Screenplay. 8 or 9 possible nominations at best IMO. I can't see Patty getting a directors nod or any acting nominations. It would be kind of hilarious though if Nolan gets his Directing nomination the same year a superhero film finally get a BP nomination.

I want Gal to get a best actress nod just to stick it to John Campea, if for no other reason.

Really enjoyed Gal in the role, but it would need to be an insanely weak year for Best Actress in order for her to get in. I'd be absolutely stunned.

So far this year (albeit not yet in oscar bait season) I can see it. Nothing has been a huge female driven high caliber performance movie this year yet.

Let's wait and see what the glut of Oscar Bait movies in the Fall have in store for us. WW may only get nominations and doesn't end up winning anything but I'll just be very, very happy that it was a part of the Oscars. It makes me happy that WW rubbed shoulders with the very best of the world. That's a huge accomplishment. Of course I won't get too ahead of myself, but this Oscar campaign talk does tickle me pink. :awesome: :awesome:

When does the Academy normally finalise who they want to nominate?

Nominations will be announced Tues 1/23/18 so I'm guessing (if nominated) a post-nom re-release starting Friday 1/26/18 with bonus footage, etc.

Lolwut??! If it continues to follow current drop rates it will reach that mark in three freaking weeks! That is middle of August, three weeks prior to Labor day! Omg By the time Labor day arrives it will be at something like 407+m! Lol

You have just opened my eyes to the lewder photoshop opportunities inherent in that picture.

Yeah, NO. Oscar looks good in her hand but we don't need to push the envelope any further. :o :o

I plan on buying the 4K version of this the day it comes out, but I hope I can get a better cover than that.
