Comics Amazing Spider-Man #600 discussion thread

No, I definitely read the issue. My bad. I thought that you were asking "if the mindwipe makes people forget they ever saw Peter as Spider-Man, how does that make DD forget if he's never seen his face anyway?". But re-reading your comment, I see now you're asking "if it takes seeing Peter's face as Spider-Man to get the memories back and bypass the block, how will DD ever find out who Peter is?".

And to answer that question...well nobody knows yet. lol This was actually brought up in the thread about that issue, and some people have tossed around some ideas:

I really did enjoy how DD set Peter straight on the fact that he should keep his Secret identity tightened. I can't say I wasn't a little disappointed because he's known even longer than the FF. but I respect his decision and reasoning for it.

I'm still interested in seeing how the mindwipe will affect superhumans with extra sensory perception when they encounter both Peter Parker and Spider-man.

I also have to say another thing, I'm not a fan of how Dan Slott writes Peter Parker, but I love his dialogue for Spider-man. It's usually very good.

EDIT: (Wait we did see that before, in New ways to die. How Venom was able to sense Spider-man but he couldn't sense Peter Parker.....uh oh)
Not looking too good for the heart beat theory.

Did you read the FF issue?

Here's a direct quote.

"...All right. I gotta warn you, the way this works...once you see me, it'll all come back to you. You'll remember everything.

He also further explains that any "evidence" connecting Peter Parker to Spider-man will be ignored because of the mind wipe.

C'mon Trianglehead I thought you loved this stuff.... :o

So if Peter Parker walked up to Matt Murdock, and said to Matt "I, Peter Parker, am Spider-Man", Matt Murdock would still not know Spidey's ID?

I interpreted the issue differently. If you saw that Peter was Spidey, then it would all come back. But it has to work if someone told you as well. Besides, I don't think that counts as "evidence" because it is fact. What they mean by evidence is stuff like Spider-Man hanging out in common Peter Parker hang outs, or Peter disappearing when Spider-Man shows up.
I wonder if taking Peter's DNA sample from Spider-Man would remind someone of the unmasking? I guess we will find out. Does Negative man have a sample of Pete's blood?

A little warning for you folks on the boards. Don't ask me how, but I know EXACTLY or least what ALLEGEDLY is going to happen in issue #600. That is all.

Yup. If you look at the post above yours I explained that in New ways to die, Venom is not able to sense Peter but he can sense Spider-man all the same.

This theory has been shot down. :o

Pretty much because of this magic thing. NO ONE can figure out who Peter is unless he chooses to show them.

Check out New ways to die again. Norman cleverly deduces that Spider-man is taking pictures of himself. Instead of remembering what Peter Parker REALLY has to do with this. he automatically believes that he's just taking his cut of the pay for the photos from Spidey. :oldrazz:
I think Dan Slott himself has even said that any evidence connecting Pete to the web head is shot down by the brain because of the magic/telepathy that remasked him.

They've created quite a mess. I figure if he tells people than thats the only way it can break or maybe even if he's caught doing Spidery things. But thats not how they explained it in the FF issue.

Than tell us what, and not the how. :cwink:
P.M me if you have to please.

when does 600 come out? i might actually pick this one up...
Next Wednesday :D
Be quick about it too. There are 4 variants
By Joe Quesada, John Romita JR, John Romita SR, & Alex Ross. With absolutely NO reprints.

I have a VERY good feeling that:

Mj remembers everything (including the wedding), and she's not affected by the mental mindwipe remasking either.

All of the seeds are there to reverse everything....at least just in case.

She seems to be very sad each time we run into her since the very beginning of one more day in issue 545.

Aloha,
Now you see why fans are so hard to please. We have 9 going on 10 pages of discussion on an issue that has not come out yet!!!
Can't wait until 7/22/09. I refuse to read ANY spoilers:word:

I am literally praying your right.

if Joe Quesada wasn't so buisy frosting his hair (like an 8th grade boy), he would have realised that MJ can function as Aunt May has/does within any given story.

I'm really itching to find out what is gonna happen in 600. Someone please reveal its secrets.

We don't really know that much beyond what Marvel has already revealed. Doc Ock is coming back, he's now got six tentacles, and he's supposed to be a MAJOR threat level, like Dr Doom level. Aunt May's wedding to Jameson Sr is happening. MJ's coming back.

That's the basics of what we know.

^^ Indeed, and I'm glad they are keeping it a secret for now. Makes it more exciting.

I stopped reading spider man some where during one more day. I just hated the whole idea just so peter could save aunt may. For crying out loud she's a 178 years old she's had a good run time to kill the hag off and let peter and mj go on with thier lives and start a family or something. Maybe have the infant that died resurface or something. Sorry if I ticked anyone off with my rant but it's just one opinion. Will someone please bring me up to speed with whats happening in the comic?

Yeh...a lot of people aren't picking it up anymore since this OMD/BND thing. Be careful talking about your feelings about this reboot tho...lol....

Quicksummary: People still don't have their memorys back, but the devil didn't wipe their minds now, there is a "Mystery Wiper" yet to be revealed, Pete has to deliberately show people his face from under his magical mask, otherwise he can run around naked as Peter shooting webs and no one will magically figure out he is Spider-Man. The wedding still never happened in history here, but Harry is still alive, Aunt May will prolly be allowed to get married in 600, (to JJJ's dad) whom Pete saw him and Aunt May in bed and was grossed out along with most readers. We all still wonder if MJ remembers the devil deal that they were once marrried despite the fact they never were because she whispered to the devil. Jackpot is not MJ, she talks and looks like her, but we found out she was no one we knew. Eddie is Anti-Venom and they teamed up in NWTD arc. Harry might know that Pete is Spidey now, but the way it was depicted is up for debate, plus all the magical mask stuff i am not honestly sure if he does or does not. Oh, Flash was hurt in another war. MJ will be back soon. Norman is a big wig, in Dark Avengers, fallout from Civil War and current events and has a baby with a new goblin Menace. (read that real fast like the micro-machine guy!!)

Try it, you might like it...You might not. You just gotta see.

Yeh...i am thinking about buying #600...(have been) since that issue is such a milestone....

Because this reboot rocks and #600 will rock and i love this reboot!!!!!!!
BND rocks! I love each and every issue! I can't believe i am not buying this!! Wooohoooooooo!! Aunt May Forever!! Word!!!

Seriously...i will prolly buy #600 at least....:csad::cwink:

These are the stories they've been wanting to tell for all these years but couldn't because of the marriage.

That about sums it up really.
Other than this it feels like "Spidey in the 70s and 80s".
Peter really has no progression in this series.
He lives in an apartment with a cop named Vin (well not really anymore since Vin is in trouble) and he takes pictures for the Frontline now instead of the bugle.

Hope this helps. :yay:

EDIT: Oh yeah...and he kicks 12 year old girls in the face too.
Cool....huh? :whatever:

Plus he has no problems morally with taking creepy paparazzi pictures.

Yup, this is the real Spider-man. He's been broken for so long ya know. Now he's broke back. Haha.....I made a funny.

Doctor Octopus has always been a Doctor Doom level threat to me. It's just that he suffered from what many characters can from time to time, which is bad writing.

I think they were making it pretty clear early on that Peter was responsible for making everybody forget his identity...

All Mephisto did was remove the marriage from existance...

Don't forget that Spidey also likes hanging out in Central Park with his best friend Harry with his shoes off as they discuss their favorite temperature and also gets flowers from Harry as a get-well present. And that his identity is so well protected and incapable of being discovered that it all depends upon whether or not he's wearing his mask. :woot:

Done. :cwink:

Yeah there was a scene in "New ways to die" that was soooo friggin cool.

Spidey builds a camera tracer that lies on his chest so he can take pictures easier.
(Yes, he's in his room at Aunt May's house. Although it has not been explained how it's there again.)

During Spidey's fight with the thunderbolts. Norman Osborn finds the camera and he uses it to discover that he is taking pictures of himself.
He uses the frequency to track Spider-man and also design weapons for his swat team that will automatically hit Spider-man no matter what.

The deduction was so cool and brilliant that when he says "He must be taking the pictures himself and splitting the money with Parker." it really takes you out of the moment.

Plus other things like when the venom Symbiote can sense him as Spidey, but it can't when he's Peter Parker.

I know.....it's magic. But that doesn't stop it from being mind boggling.

Some stories were good. Check out ASM 578-580 and ASM 584-589, than ASM 592-599. Oh yea definitely check out ASM 574. It's a flash thompson story. A must read.

Other than that it's kind of a failure of a reboot IMO. Others love it, so I would check it out and get my own opinion if I were you.
If you can't get past magic explaining away half of the plot holes than DON'T pick this title up.

Well, that's OMD. Ever since BND, if you're a huge Spidey fan, you'll really like these Spidey books. They're very enjoyable, IMO.

Aunt May's house was re-built by Harry as explained in ASM #580/581...

No magic there...

And as explained, there's something that prevents everybody from guessing that Peter is Spider-Man... it's not magic (well, it might be), but it's yet to be explained... so it's not "magickal" in the sense that we don't need to know how it works...

You're a confused little fella, aren't chy'a.... half the time, you talk well of the book, and then 2 posts later, you speak so negatively about it...

It confuses me...

Very true.

I think alot of Spidey's villains have suffered in the last few years. Marvel seem to have forgotten their true potential, and have just been overloading us with Norman Osborn.

But BND has slowly been returning some of the classics to their former glory. I can't wait to see what Dan Slott has in store for Doc Ock in #600.

:otto:
