The Boys Amazon's The Boys General Discussion Thread

Really great episode. I've been enjoying this season so much.

The story is moving in such an interesting way. The fist fight at the end was great. The MM scene in the car was really good. The fight between Hughie and Starlight was well done. Minifie is killing it, I love all of her scenes. Antony Starr continues to give one of the best performances currently on TV.

Very interested in seeing how this story continues. I wonder how many seasons are left. The story seems to be getting close to the "we've gone far" enough feeling. I predict maybe 1 or 2 more seasons will suffice. Although I generally think 5 seasons max for most serialized shows is good enough.

On the Herogasm itself...I agree with @Teelie I was expecting something more extreme and graphic.
Since the shooting of the season they kept teasing how crazy and inappropriate it would be, all the tweets about it, the disclaimer at the beginning...I kinda just felt like "That's it?".
I mean a lot of it wasn't any worse than what you saw in Eyes Wide Shut, True Detective Season 2, or Summer of Sam. And then even the MM scene was not much worse than the Scary Movie 2 scene was back in like 02.
The octopus bit
was the only "Holy s***" moment for me. But even then that was so CGI'd out that it wasn't even that crazy.
And I don't mean that in a pretentious "I've seen better" kind of way or that i was needing that level depravity to be shown...but yeah just after all the build up it didn't really reach those hilariously depraved levels I thought it would. Honestly the Ant-Man penis scene in the first episode was crazier to me.

I feel like it's like how so many people (not the filmmakers themselves) teased Joker 2019 as being this hyper violent, disturbing thing when really it's no worse than you see on most HBO dramas with violence, Scorsese, Tarantino movies, or even Breaking Bad (namely box cutter)

But it didn't stop my enjoyment of the episode. The depravity isn't why I enjoy watching The Boys

EDIT: I will say the A-Train/Black Hawk scene while good felt like it was put in at a weird time. Should've come earlier in the ep or even in another ep all together

My gawd was this episode was amazing. I don't want to overhype it, but this was easily one the best episode to ever come out of this show and might end up being one of the best episodes of television ever.

So much great stuff in this episode from the opening stab at Gal Cadot's Imagine and then pretty much everything with Soldier Boy and the confrontation at the Herogasm.

Even A-Train got a pretty great moment to shine towards the end, but man overall they was firing on all cylinders with this episode and I honestly don't see how they top this going forward.

I wonder if she’s ever addressed the blow back from that stunt. Hope she knows it had the opposite effect of whatever they intended.

I mean I'm pretty sure
that bathroom cam showed actual penetration
but i agree they build it up too much they were never to going to live up to the build up, never the less

the soldier boy vs Homelander then later Butcher and Hugie team up against Homelander
delivered in spades

Mothe's Milk [Laz Alonzo] work this season imo has been superb

It was a very good episode.

Finally get a lot of Soldier Boy, had to have a Jensen eating scene like Supernatural.

I think they had to have Frenchie/Kimiko stuff in the episode because last week but they provided a nice breather. I don't think
Kimiko's powers are completely gone since she took the Solider blast pretty head on and didn't get vaporized. She took a beating from this guy sure human but he had 200lbs on her beating down on recent wound.
we shall see, Nina will bring some more backup.

A-Train finally did something, I am always a fan of speedsters so that scene was amazing for me. I don't think his heart condition can be fixed but him
being surprised by Hughie either made him want to do something to Blue Hawk once he saw him or maybe he thinks whatever Hughie had could help him.

Noir I am looking forward to see what he decided to do since he is on the list.

The fight
I enjoyed it since it did feel like just a brief teaser to a bigger battle to come. If Maeve was there they may have had enough to hold Homelander down. It is amazing that Homelander is that much stronger than Soldier but he has flight and heat vision. Took on Butcher who has the same powers in temporary form and I don't really count Hughie as his power is pretty weak, he is not punching a hole through any supes.

Glad to have Ackles in something I like again. I fell of of Supernatural after season 6 but I always thought he was a really good actor. Probably the best performance to come out of WB/CW...which isn't saying much but still.

I always thought could transition into better stuff post Supernatural

It was also probably very smart of Annie/Starlight to not mention
Head Popper lady in that video she was doing. She likely only pissed off Ashley and Homelander who won't hurt her for image reasons. Soldier Boy does not know technology and can be reasoned with some since Butcher told him not to kill MM. While Head Popper made her nose bleed and you didn't even see her eyes change.

Yeah and I think it is the first thing I have seen him in not geared directly to teens so language not an issue. He is a smooth cusser haha, he was always rumored for some Marvel, D/C, or Star Wars roles but committed to Supernatural.

I stuck with Supernatural but yes it dropped off bad after the main Lucifer arc ended.

I would like to see some flashbacks to why Soldier Boy is hated so much by his group. From what I’ve seen, he’s not any more terrible than other supes.

I had 2 friends who watched SPN in high school, but what got me to check it out was that in the old Green Lantern 2011 casting thread on here Ackles was listed in the poll.

I guess he just that look that would make him, in theory, be good for so many roles from Hawkeye to GL.

That maybe why he is so hated, they all kind of hate each other. He manipulates and really does not care about who he hurts. Feel like he does not actually blackout because some of the things he said this episodes makes it like he is aware of the power.

never seen supernatural is it worth it?

just seeing Ackles here makes me want to see more of his work past and most def in the future

It wasn't quite as graphic as I was expecting but it definitely skirted the line of what Amazon execs would let them do.

Yeah I was expecting it to be something like that movie Pleasure that got a NC17 rating where they really did push the envelope.

I still remember me watching the very first episode of Supernatural when it originally aired but I just forgot to keep watching. Plus I didn't have a DVR back then.

To me, the first 5 seasons are really good and for the most part tell a complete story. But to be fair I haven't rewatched the series since that first viewing/live airing. I picked it up between seasons 4 and 5.
Seasons 1-3 are pretty episodic. There are overarching storylines but not crazy.
Seasons 4-5 are really serialized. And imo are the best ones from what I remember.

After that I only watched season 6 and a little bit of the beginning of season 7 and it just didn't interest me anymore

Looking back on it, it can be a bit daunting because its an hour long drama where most of the seasons have 20+ eps. But from there is a lot of good there and at least in the early seasons (mostly because it first was on WB before the creation of the CW) aren't as cheesy as standard CW stuff.

probably same as homelander as bad as the deep and Atrain they don't commit mass murder like he does and clearly living in constant fear of being murdered not good for team building lol

He is shown in the flashbacks to be a womanizer while being in a relationship with that red lady [forgetting name ] and a glory hound so constantly being upstaged by a guy like that for years you can develop resentment.

ala Kobe and Shaq to a degree and Kyrie and Lebron to those who follow sports :yay:

Echoing the sentiments of others in that I was expecting the Herogasm to be a lot more explicit, but regardless, a GREAT episode. That ending had my jaw on the floor. I wasn’t expecting it.
Also, I’ve totally driven by that Herogasm house before. It’s on a very affluent street in the city I live in. I need to pass by again now :funny:

I agree that this episode was pretty hyped up. What was great about that Termite scene from the first episode was that it was a surprise. The hype and expectations that get built up in your head can really kill an episode (although I enjoyed it overall).
