The Boys Amazon's The Boys General Discussion Thread

I agree that this episode was pretty hyped up. What was great about that Termite scene from the first episode was that it was a surprise. The hype and expectations that get built up in your head can really kill an episode (although I enjoyed it overall).

imagine the reaction if they didn't say they were going to doing herogasm bit from the comics the reactions would have been through the roof

Or just not hyping it up for like a year in interviews, Twitter, disclaimer before episodes.
But even then I think most people wouldn't said "Oh ok". Maybe like 10 years ago. But we've seen crazier or just as crazy on TV at this point

while i love the show I wake up 2 hours earlier for work when it's airing just to avoid spoilers on the way to work and when i was working from home during 2nd season my productivity was non existent being home while show was on, but i can see some of the issues the show has

the showrunner sometimes overhypes on social media [it's his job] to the shows detriment at times

Yeah, I mean no one was expecting hardcore porn but this was not even the softcore implication they were hyping up. Sure there were some bits and bobs shown but they did not show anything so outrageous as to justify the hype.

man i really fear for butcher/hughie and anyone close to them homelander is gonna go scorched earth now

Hero-gasm is such a ridiculous event I don't think it could have lived up to the images conjured just from hearing about it (whether you read the comics or not). Aside from lacking the shock factor there, this was another great episode. The season has been very good so far.

Honestly the way they hyped it up, I kind of was expecting at least one hardcore scene :funny:

The scene was about what I expected with some fake boobies, simulated penetration and whatnot. But I could see how it would be shocking for actors and crew not used to working on a soft core porn set. The highlights for me were the Deep and his companion, the return of Termite, and finally being able to put a face to the sausage.

I mean, we did get a shot from the toilet cam...

Despite everything with Herogasm, it was a pretty amazing episode.

I loved the little bit with Homelander and the mirror. A great callback and reference to the comic stuff, with Noir being a Homelander clone. And the ending shot, of him just staring at the bruise. I like the implication that the pain isn't the factor, but being visible showing weakness is driving him even more insane.

I loved the Starlight and Neuman scene. And Annie and MM teaming up is great. I have to assume Frenchie and Kimiko will be joining up with them.

Kimiko's fight was brutal. I felt the blows on her injuries. Glad all three made it out alive. I do wonder if this means Kimiko is going to take Compound V again.

That final fight was great. Much better than the higher budget ones we are getting at Marvel.

A-train is just such a fascinating character. I hope he isn't dead, I want to see where his journey continues

Poor Frenchie missed all the fun.

Also, Edna is once again proven correct.

I laughed so hard, when the love spear of the bearded supe was black after Solja Boy fallout.
A-Train grinding Blue Hawk was hard to watch

I am glad I am not into reading about the episodes or into interviews about upcoming seasons. That kind of hype an anticipation usually leads to a bit of disappointment. I didn't know what to expect from the episode but I knew it wasn't going to be some porn type episode or horrific. It had a good amount of stuff to me.

In context, that episode was definitely a disappointment. Pretty standard HBO content that was only "shocking" because the show hasn't had frontal nudity for like two full seasons now. Outside of the over-hype, though, it was an amazing episode. The acting has been on point and I can't wait to see where they go from here.

I would like to see some flashbacks to why Soldier Boy is hated so much by his group. From what I’ve seen, he’s not any more terrible than other supes.
Soldier Boy seems to be the living embodiment of toxic masculinity I suppose. It's also heavily implied he abused teenage Gunpowder.

I don't read interviews, reviews, etc. either. Other than the snippets posted here. And then sometimes I get suggested IG posts and to a lesser extent Twitter posts every now and then. I don't follow the production of movies/shows really anymore, but even then Herogasm was really really hyped up by the production and also fans of the comic. Even this morning, I got a "Herogasm" ad on Twitter. And then as I said even the disclaimer before the episode started.

It's not about searching out that kind of stuff. It doesn't happen often with this show but once something spoken about pretty constantly, it's hard to avoid.
However, I want to reiterate I didn't need or want some super depraved crazy thing we never saw before. But once it's hyped for so long and it doesn't really hit like that it's just

I got that feeling as well. I'm not sure he's any better than Homelander. :( Would anyone really want him leading the Seven?

Soldier Boy seems more grounded and capable of being normal which makes him scarier than Homelander in a way.

I suspect the reason Noir slipped out is because he's mandated to protect Edgar from danger which tells you everything you need to know about the difference between Homelander and Soldier Boy. Stan might not be able to maintain that perfect blood pressure against the latter.

I found this episode satisfying on so many levels which is probably why I came off more hyperbolic than I was expecting, but man when you have sat through some really disappointing shows/seasons like Obi-Wan and Umbrella Academy: Season 3 great stuff like this just stands out a lot more to me because you can actually feel the amount of effort and care these writers put into this show and into these characters.

I honestly could care less about how overhyped the Herogasm itself was because while I thought it was crazy enough its those little, individual character moments like the stuff with Starlight, A Train, Marvin, Soldier Boy and especially Homelander that really made me love this episode the most.

Yeah, it definitely seems to be pointing towards Edgar being behind Soldier Boy's betrayal and there's certainly more to him and Noir's relationship than has so far been revealed.

Good episode, but nowhere near what it was hyped up to be.
