America...the Thread

You know who I always liked? That John Hancock fella...cause he has cock right in his name :o

I am related to Charles Carroll of Carrollton, the last surviving and only Catholic signer of the Declaration of Independence.

When we went to Phildelphia, we told them about it, and we got a special VIP tour of the halls and the museum of portraits and all that. It was pretty neat. My Grandmother was a Carroll from Maryland, so the name was still alive.

I see America as a country that challenges the individual and throws the individual into a situation where he is offered and enticed almost with the promise of freedom, the promise of enrichment. And at the same time it throws him into a situation where he has to be so competitive, that he also feels he’s in the jungle. So it’s a form of democracy that throws us into the conditions of jungle life, but at the same time holds out for us the hope of civilization, the hope of human dignity, and the hope of real freedom.

I think this is a great situation. I think that is why this country has made so much progress. If Americans lose sight on that idea of this democracy and that idea of freedom, I think we’ll become less competitive in the world. And that is what’s happening. We’re becoming less competitive in the international world, because fewer American people, especially the leaders, are conceiving America in the way that it was conceived by the Founding Fathers and by the old pioneers of this country.

Prophetic words. The ideas mentioned in this article are coming to pass. What direction are we headed as a society especially as the world becomes a small and small place? Have we truly lost sight on what democracy is as envisioned by the founding father?

Do people of other countries as they immigrate to America have a better understand of America than we do?

Are we more concerned about having fun and a life of entertainment and fulfillment of pleasure than we are about the principles that are presented in the Bill of Rights and the Constitution, of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?

Are we in a downward spiral that between our inept American leadership and the masses indifference will lead to the destruction of the American way of life as we know it?

Is the answer just to love it or leave it…or is there a third option? Fix it. Or has too much apathy been built up where we just don’t give a damn anymore. If so where will this attitude lead our country?

Your thoughts.

Well I think that the USA is one of the best countries in the world. I happen to have been born and raised in England....

I met my fiance who is American and she opened my eyes to what the USA has to offer. I have traveled most of Europe and parts of Asia but the USA wins hands down. They have so much oppertunity over there it is crazy. Which is why one day I would like to live there.

I love America, despite what the Bastards in Power will tell you.

There is something brewing in America that can destroying it's very foundations, and it is being supplied by the Bastards in Power. They like the people watching American Idol and "txtng" your "bff Jill," because it distracts the American people from watching them, as they eroude civil liberties to gain more power, and when American Idol doesn't work, they'll just raise the terror alert and will force those poor sheep back into the heard.

There is a War on Terror we have to fight, but it is a two-front war--and one of them is a Civil War. If you don't believe that TPTB aren't using acts of terror into your mind, then you're drinking their Kool-Aid.

And if the American Idol and the terror alerts don't stop these damn uppity people that want their freedom, they'll use their ultimate weapon: call them Anti-American.

I once spoke about the hypocrisy of the Powers That Be in a classroom, and someone asked me, "Why do you hate America?"

I replied, "I don't hate America. In fact, I must love it more than you, because, unlike you, I am actually using my freedom of speech."

This country is founded on Revolution. It took a bunch of rich dudes who, despite their own hypocrisies, had some pretty good ideas, and fought and died for their cause, using gurella warfare--the way the terrorists today fight--to defeat what was back then one of the most powerful nations in the world.

And if there is anything that the Powers That Be hate and fear more, is that American spirit.

If there is a problem with America, it is that; and it will have to be ripped out of our core if we have any hope of surviving.

No place on Earth is really free. I just want to make more money in another trade. Which I can do in the States....money = less problems.

Hey hey, don't get it twisted--I never said the government sucks, I said the PEOPLE that run the government sucks. There is a difference. :o

Well I give you an A for that role buddy

Thanks. :woot:

I used to be a fan what song is it from?

The movie, it was a deleted scene before they got into the rock hall of fame they tried to get all this ninja gear from an army/navy store run by this militia nut. When they realized they didn't have any money but had to have the walkie-talkies to "triangulate their mission objectives" they decided to give the guy a custom made song. It was called "the government totally sucks, you mutha@ucker" and it made the guy cry. Second funniest song in the whole movie and one of the best sequences. MMJKR little speach just really reminded me of the militia guy.

I have not seen the movie is it good?

America is in a bad way right now. But I think that is slowly changing. There is a rift in the country. People under 30 demand change. They want to know their social security will be available. They want to help the environment. They want to change our foreign policy. The problem is no one under thirty is in any real power in the US. The government is made up of a lot of old geezers who will not change a way of life that they have been living for 50, 60 or even 70 years. When this younger generation becomes the older generation and takes power, I think the nation will undergo great changes and change, ironically enough, back into what it was founded on. We youngsters are more rebellious and more in tune with our revolutionary forefathers. The times are a changin'.

PS, Americans. Stop spending so much damn money on crap you can't afford!!!!

As I have said before living in the UK really makes you want to live in the states...well it does for me. I know how much more I can get over there.

If you like Tenacious D and you get the musical references and jokes then yeah, it's pretty kick @ss. Meatloaf as the religious father, Dave Grohl as the devil with an entire song about raping Gage, and of course Dio. I thought it was great, but I can see how people not into music and rock all that much wouldn't get the jokes.

I saw the trailers and really want to see it but it just passed me by. I should rent it.

Definately, DVD is better anyway. The army/navy scene is a deleated scene and song and one of the funniest parts of the movie. You'll be singing the Satan rape song in your head for weeks afterward.
