And the new Punisher is...

I've heard nothing of them fighting hard to keep any rights.

My post stated they were making the sequel just so they could keep the rights, which is the impression I was under.

It's not that simple. They're out of time. It's now or never. They have an uphill battle to sell this project and so far they're doing pretty good. The 1st one didn't do great at the box office and most people never saw it outside of the real fans.

Wow, it's always one extreme or the other here. I mean I loved TJ as The Punisher but I already knew he wasn't coming back so I was just waiting to see if the recast was close to the comic character (not close to Tom Jane). This guy is damn close to the comic book character and I'm pretty sure he will become the character with no problem in due time. He has the look of Frank Castle that I was expecting from the first movie so that makes me happy. Reminds me a lot of the MAX Punisher, which is the look I'm sure they were looking for with this one.

...I have to question if a lot of people here have even read a Punisher comic (the ones who keep saying that he looks nothing like The Punisher).

I really hope he can fake an American acent than Liam Neeson. I don't want another Dolph Lundgren, talking in some foreign accent.

So we know Chuck Liddel might play Jigsaw's crazy brother (as he stated) but who is gonna play jigsaw? Vinnie Jones? LOL

Fine, we'll disagree.

But honestly if you thought WBF was supposed to be believable then you obviously completely missed the point just as much as the filmmakers.

okay so believable was not that right word, I don't know the comic versions seemed very sterotyped while they didn't in the film. Don't get me wring I love the Welcome back Frank story, hell I have liked almost everything Ennis has written with the character. He is a hell of a lot better than Mike Baron and a host of other Punisher writers that came before him.

Good choice !

And watch a exclusive Punisher 2 teaser :
…In fact,I was in competition to direct “The Punisher 2” for Lion’s Gate (I have a representative in LA at PARADYGM AGENCY)In order to get a chance I produced and directed a teaser about my vision of this character.
Watch it and tell me what you think about it please…

Excuse me while I proceed to scream in the air while raising my fists.

Why?!

Dammit, I want Thomas Jane back.

I think physically yes this guy can look damn close to Castle given the proper makeover. But the thing is I have never even heard of this guy and from what I am reading some of the people who have seen him act are skeptical about the casting too. I guess I will have to check out some of this guy's work to make my own judgment. Regardless Thomas Jane played Frank Castle to damn near perfection and I don't see any reason why he couldn't come back besides the studio dicking around with him.

I like Stevenson but to be frank (pun intended) he's too british. :) I'm getting these horrible flash backs of Jason Statham in that Jet Li movie trying to sound american and being horrible at it. :)

Hope i'm wrong. I loved the first movie even though I wasn't a fan of the comic book character. The movie turned me into a fan because it was a simple old-school action flick with some heart thrown in. If they keep that formula, I'll like it even if Castle says "Bloody wankers!" from time to time. :)

You people really need to get over your little tom jane man crush. Its frightening. Stop clinging to Janes nuts and move the **** on. I thought this was a punisher site not a TJ site.

And I'd take Frank with a buzz cut over frank with dirty blonde hair anyday.

Tom Jane was sweet, but he was pretty much the only good thing in that movie. If this is in continuity, it looks like its taking place twenty years later hopefully in a future world where there is no Florida. Anyway, he is a suitable replacement.

I am getting sick of people complaining about Florida. Have you even read any of the comics? He hits different locations all over the world.

Sure he does, but it is like 90% NY. When I think of The Punisher I immediately think NY. That's really where The Punisher was born, and in terms of the city I think it is much more interesting then FL (no disrespect to FL). On a different note, dsarrio, I loved your trailer man. When I watch it that is the movie I want to see as it really does a good job of capturing the mood of the comics. Nice job man!

But the way in the comics would have looked ridiculous on screen. I think they vastly improved his origin by making it a hit at a private family reunion and his ENTIRE family getting wiped. But oh well different strokes for different folks I guess.

I agree DSarrio your teaser was great, shame you couldnt direct this man.

I'll give the guy a chance, he can't be any worse than the other guys. Thomas Jane looked absolutely nothing like the punisher to me so we'll see.

I've never watched Rome, so I'm not familiar with this new actor, but based on physical appearance alone the new guy is Frank Castle. That being said, I do respect Thomas Jane a lot after giving his reasons for not returning, and I don't believe that the problems with the first film were inherently his.

Jane "looked" like the punisher well enough tome. And the things the character did were true to the comics. The problem is he couldn't sell the toughness and intimidation factor to me. Jane was not scary.... doesn't matter how buff or Stubbly he got, he wasn't imposing to me he came off as frowns. Titus Pullo (I just have to refer to him as that) has the intimidation thing down. He's played a badass before. He can be stone-cold and completely without remorse. On Rome he was a killer, pure and simple, like it was his job (because it was). If nothing else, he will make for a tough as nails, hardcore Punisher.

Agree with everything here! Jane was ripped to shreds but he still had a "small" body type. This guy looks much bigger, to me anyway. Plus he looks rougher then Jane did, in the face anyway. I think he looks more believable.

You do know that after his family was killed in the comics, he tracked the mafia boss who did it down right? And do you know where that mafia boss had his operations set up? Florida. So you know, maybe you should shut the hell up about things you obviously know nothing about.

BTW, unless Tom Jane has recently changed his name to Ray Stevenson, who gives a f**k? No Jane, No Thanks :cmad:

I love how people hate this new casting, but praise Thomas Jane.
Like I said before, obviously when Jane was first cast, he was welcomed with open arms....

Daniel Craig was also welcomed by 007 fans as well, he looked exactly like James Bond!

Exactly I'd like to go back and read those threads....

The movie and Jane's portrayal is what made me get into reading the comics.
