Ant-Man Ant-Man Casting Thread

I think they'll go the Regular route for Janet.

Definitely one of those choices I would have never thought up on my own, but instantly love once I heard it. Yes for Rudd!

Hope Rudd gets it.....always been a fan of his, he'd be a great fit for this.

I'm sure JGL will have plenty of other opportunities to join the MCU, this isn't the first role he's been in on.

I know it's early but I would almost be disappointed if Rudd does not get it

The thing about JGL is he has more star power than Rudd does, so I could see him pulling in more crowds. Marvel might be considering something like that a necessity since they really want people to watch this movie. I want Rudd for the part, though. That would be fun.

Paul Rudd is such a great choice, hasn't he been suggested before on the boards?

I think they should save JGL for Dr. Strange, and cast Rudd as Pym

Jgl all the way over Rudd and please let it be hank pym as antman Scott Lang has never and will never be an interesting character save for one arc in alias

Yeah, if we could have them in those roles it would be the best of both worlds. Everybody wins.

I don't want the great JGL to be reduced to a character like Lang, an actor of his talent level should be the lead in a Marvel film....Dr. Strange

I don't want him for Strange. I don't really know who I'd want JGL to play in the MCU...great actor, though.

Can't you agree that Lang is too small of a role for JGL? In the grand scheme of the MU, Lang is pretty meaningless. JGL deserves a bigger character

If Spider-Man was in the MCU and then went with an older Peter, then JGL would be your man.

Thoughts:

1. Haha, anyone remember those Paul Rudd rumors from last year about him having been hanging around the Avengers cast at one of the award shows?

You mean the ones I got jumped on for posting back in February? "omg Crazy Sam, it's just a guy meeting the Avengers cast backstage, it doesn't mean he's going to be in any movie with them! :cmad:"

Yeah. I remember those. :word:

I agree. And *if* it turns out that both Rudd and JGL join up, I'd actually see them the other way around, as opposed to choices posted earlier --- i.e., I think Rudd would be Lang, and JGL would be Pym.

But. I *do* think they're both in contention for just one Ant-Man, and that's Scott Lang. I don't think Wright and Cornish have budged from their earliest concept of Pym as the old (maybe quite literally) Ant-Man, and Lang as the new one, with Lang being the actual title character. I think they'll cast an old guy in Pym's role. If Pym operated in the 1960s, as the earliest drafts have it, then he would likely be well past retirement age in 2015. (If he's still alive at all.)

I just hope they go *any* route for Janet. So far, there's never been any indication that Wright has included her in his story at all.

But if Janet *is* (pray to god) on her way, Marvel would be remiss in not trying to expand their audience demo by putting some more diversity in a still largely whitebread MCU (aliens from GOTG notwithstanding).

i can't agree. the role's only as big as the actor makes it. some people would say that Heimdall is a relatively small character. Idris Elba still agreed to it. this isn't about Lang or Pym. it's about being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

that doesn't make sense, if we're using the original plot as evidence. Wright said that he was going to show Pym in action as Ant-Man. they wouldn't cast an old guy for that any more than they'd cast an old lady to play Peggy Carter.

i don't agree. but comic book stories have little weight here. the movie characters are their own entities. Wright creates great characters. he's a decent writer. so his Scott Lang (and Hank Pym for that matter) might be considerably more interesting. it's small-minded to apply comic book limits to a live-action character. it's like when people kept harping about how lame a shrinking character would be. then they all shut up when that teaser clip showed up.

To be fair, though, Idris is no JGL.

Paul Rudd would be awesome.

That's my 2 cents, people.

We would've been able to tell that that was your 2 cents without you actually saying it's your 2 cents. :o

Make sense, Maooz.
