Well, this sucks (at least for Antje):

David Gordon Green's Suspiria remake stalled indefinitely

David Gordon Green has said that his remake of Dario Argento's Suspiria is on hold indefinitely.

The director of All The Real Girls and Pineapple Express has been attached to the Argento remake for years and a cast, including Isabelle Fuhrman (Orphan), Michael Nyqvist (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo), Janet McTeer (Albert Nobbs), Antje Traue (Man Of Steel), and the peerless Isabelle Huppert, was announced at Cannes in 2012.

However, speaking to IndieWire, Green revealed exactly what is happening with his version of Suspiria.

“Nothing. It's just not the right time for that movie to exist. It's a classy, elegant horror movie and people want to see things that are a little more raw, like found footage. Nobody's really begging for something that's elegant, classy and expensive.”

Ehhh, I'm actually kind of relieved. I never thought a Suspiria remake was a very good idea. Also, this frees Antje up to take on better and more exciting projects.

Although from that quote (and various other tidbits), David Gordon Green seems to be quite clear that he would have tried to do it in a way that's faithful to the original (as in keeping key aspects like the occult/witchcraft theme, the vibrant colours/stark contrasts or the psychedelic synth-driven soundtrack) while still translating it into a modern setting.

Which, of course, would have been quite a feat if (and that's a really big if) he managed to pull that off.

Also, this frees Antje up to take on better and more exciting projects.

Let's hope so. There's way too much of nothing new going on in her filmography listing.

I totally agree. There are movies that you shouldn't remake. And Suspiria is definitily one of them.

As to Antje's career: As a non native English speaker I cannot judge how much her accent hinders her in finding roles in "regular" movies. Can she be cast as a lawyer, waitress, clerk, etc. or do you always have to explain why she has that accent?
So that she only gets roles as aliens, witches, etc.
That Chris Nolan visited her on set, and that she has been the only one of the man of steel cast to whom he talked personally tells me, that there might be bigger things to come.
Also that the Hercules director tweeted that he casted Antje Traue and Antje denies that tells me, that she could have a role in that movie in an instant. I hope there are good reasons why she rejected that offer.

You might be on to something here but the way she casually talked about her exclusive encounter with Christopher Nolan as if it was nothing special (like shaking hands with him as well) makes it seem unlikely.
Or she is that good at being all poker face and playing us for a pack of fools (every last one of us!).
