Oh wow Bohemian Rhapsody made 670 Mill?? I had no idea the movie did that well.
Still haven't seen it. I'm on the fence because the artistic liberties they took with the movie.

I mean, the Zildjian hi-hat symbals they use in the movies Live Aid (1985) came on the market in the 90's!

BP isn't the second highest grossing CBM outside of Avengers. Thats where the disconnect is.
When I called Black Panther the highest grossing CBM that is not Avengers I was counting every MCU movie with the word Avengers in its title. And I said Aquaman has the potential to surpass it.

When didnt he?
Call me when you find that word mentioned in my post.

It's amazing how much money this movie is making considering it's not one of these so called "event" films like The Avengers, Black Panther ("first" black superhero), Wonder Woman (first female led) etc.

And even though I liked the film it's not like it's anything super extraordinary in it's genre. So the fact that it's making ****loads of the green is telling us that 1) superherofatigue is not a thing 2) DC is not tainted in any way 3) Don't underestimate the power of the women as an audience 4) good and enjoyable films make bank.

Aquamam isn't really showing signs of going that big just yet. A billion is looking like a good target, but BP is another $300m away. China has also already given up most of its haul already.

It's an urban myth that we are getting a Batman film from MR.
When people talk about The Batman being an urban myth they are talking about the MR film, rather than Batman himself.

It's not an "event" film per say, but it is the first CBM in this golden age to feature an under water superhero. In that regard it's the first of its kind. Take away the water aspect and it bares a lot of similarities to recent wacky space operas - which seem to rake at the BO these days. I think we can look back on it now and realize the DCEU connection wasn't really relative to its performance and they did a great job not playing up any connections whatsoever in the marketing blitz.

I think this year absolutely proves superhero fatigue is BS. We had the all time no.3 worldwide film, all time no.3 and 4 domestic, and then lower tier characters such as Aquaman and Venom doing serious business. As if that wasn’t enough CBMs dominated most of the top 10 (11 if AM&W drops a spot).

Not only that; Aquaman is proving audiences don't want/need "Marvel, Marvel, Marvel" all the time. If WB can crank out more good CBMs, audiences will take 'em. Different is good. Different is better. While I'm looking forward to the Swamp Thing show on DC's streaming service, I still think he should have gotten the full feature reboot. CGI has advanced to the point you can practically translate the Wein-Moore runs page for page and the results would be glorious.

Pretty sure 2017 proved it more so as this year's batch of movies is fewer and more spread out compared to last's and this coming new year.

What you have said is true but not completely. Different is good, there is for sure space for DC comics on the silver screen, but we have to admit that Aquaman is really close to the tone and style of Marvel's movies. The serious/adult approach of the Snyderverse to the cinecomics genere substantially failed.

Wonder Woman and Aquaman worked perfectly at the box office. With China I think that even Suicide Squad would have done +800m.
The problem of WB is how to manage Batman and Superman now. It's really a big problem.

I don’t think Marvel would ever make anything as outrageous as Aquaman.

It was a really whacked out, risky film. I thought it was very “DC” because it was so clearly Wan’s vision on screen, not a studio’s.

I think part of the problem with Batman and Superman is that they both have had many movies recently and the general public knows their basic stories.

I'm not sure about Patti Jenkins WW sequel, but I doubt Matt Reeves is going to make a Marvel styled Batman film tho.

I don't think making a superman or Batman movie should be difficult. The key is keeping the characters as we've always known them. Should have had a Superman after MOS. But anyhow, JL gave us a fun Superman. Because the DCEU is opened up, you can mix things up and make the plot different from past movies.

With superman, for the next movie, we can have parasite. While bringing in catwoman to match up against Lois. Since Lex is gathering his legion of doom people, you can bring in catwoman. Later on, I still want my Joker-Superman- Mxyzptlk, with a director who can make an insanely fun unique experience.

And there's plenty of good Batman stories. Jonah Hill would make a fun penguin

I think people want novelty new heroes wb need to wait to put batman or superman in theatres. Focus on the other carachters with less exposion. Because people are tired of another batman another superman for now.

It was no more outrageous than say GOTG or Ragnarok. But it was infinitely more outrageous than anything in the DCEU leading up to it.

So it's getting closer to the $700-800M mark which i voted for
